What guests think

At Econo Lodge Inn & Suites University, travellers highlight friendly staff, clean if dated rooms, and convenient access to transit, hospitals, and McMahon Stadium, while noting a basic breakfast and occasional noise from trains, hallways, or exterior stairways.

Facilities include a small pool and hot tub and a simple gym, but guests report periodic closures, strong chlorine, occasional elevator outages, and sometimes tight parking. Cleanliness is mixed—many spotless rooms alongside stained hall carpets or occasional pests—and some guests were frustrated by strict deposit or credit card rules, slow refunds, or housekeeping disturbances. Overall, expect solid value and convenience with modest amenities and variable upkeep.

It was clean and quiet. There were a couple of minor inconveniences. The pool and hot tub were down for maintenance. The elevator broke down on the first night, was repaired the next day then broke again for the rest of the weekend. The television had a small nick/scratch that left a noticeable white mark when watching tv. Some of the channels would often pixelate causing some viewing issues. The bed was a little bouncy, noticeable that when my spouse would move, so would I. All that aside I still enjoyed the room very much. It was very quiet, clean and the staff were very friendly. I would stay again with no hesitation.

I booked this stay partly because it had a pool and hot tub. When I arrived, the pool was empty. It took 2 days to fill it and a third for the water to heat. Just in time for my departure. My room was quite dirty. Hair everywhere, even in the towels. There was no conditioner provided, just shampoo. Hotel is pretty run down. Beds were comfortable and breakfast staff were very friendly.

Room needs a deep clean. Dust and debris in corners. The window track in the bathroom needs a clean. There was no fan in the bathroom, had to open the window, but window would not stay open. This is an old building that has been renovated inside but the remodel was done cheaply and quite poorly. But overall it was an ok place to sleep with a decent pool for the kids.

Found Bed Bugs in my room, hotel staff was extremely rude, ask me to leave the premises, because they said, that was their “protocol”, Not an apology, Not offer to change rooms. Terrible experience with the front desk staff, they were worst than the realization of the bug infestation. Racist and rude.

Hotel is sandwiched between a highway and LRT train line. If you don't hear trucks zooming, you hear the train whizzing by. Hoping it quiets through the night. Bathroom floors could use a steam/deeper clean. Also, good shower pressure, but have to crank it almost all the way up to get hot water. Front desk was very abrupt and didn't tell us anything about property or area Have an ice bucket, but no clue where ice is. Glad we are just staying for one night.

Paid a 500 deposit they said they would return on check out, they did not return it. It was clean, and most of the staff were good. One would not allow us to switch a license plate number to park when we had to switch vehicles. Also, crazy strict over their free breakfast. Even though it is one of the smallest continental breakfast I’ve seen. My father forgot his ticket for breakfast at the hospital we were visiting, they would not let him eat without it, or pay extra. For a lower scale hotel, maybe try a little harder to keep your guests? Just a thought! We would have stayed another week, but the front desk guy was super rude when we asked about price.

We were greeted at check in which was fast and easy. When we got to our room the front office called to see how the room was . Room was very good and bed was one of the most comfortable ones we have ever had in a motel/hotel. The only issues we have are the fridge in the room was useless as we tried to freeze a couple of bottles of water but they only got cold and the fridge was at the coldest setting. The other issue was they need a second toaster for the continental breakfast. But those are just inconveniences and are easily lived with We would stay there again anytime we are in the area.

After checking twice what time I was leaving and I confirmed 11:00 like check out stated. Front desk then started calling to remind me about check out (all before 11:00)
