What guests think

At Best Western Plus Suites Downtown Calgary, travellers highlight spacious suite-style rooms with kitchenettes, friendly staff, and a central location walkable to restaurants and attractions, alongside a complimentary breakfast that many find convenient and good value.

Several reviews note dated decor, slow elevators, and paid on-site parking; some also report noisy heaters or air conditioners, occasional false fire alarms, and mixed experiences with cleanliness or housekeeping. The breakfast room can feel crowded and repetitive, and the surrounding downtown blocks can seem rough or noisy at night for some guests. Overall, expect a roomy, practical base downtown with good value and some tradeoffs in age and ambience.

Had the underground parking garage door close on my truck and all they offered was free parking I went for an anniversary and it was the worst way to start the weekend Also watched multiple people hit there car doors off other cars and just walk away due to the small size of the parking If you want a place that actually cares about your possessions this place is not it

Hotel itself was great staff helpful and friendly, biggest issue is its a large hotel with 2 small elevators. You could be waiting for an elevator for a while and when it does arrive 2 out of 3 times its already full ad they only hold 3-4 people max.

Great location in downtown Calgary. However, inconvenience of the fire alarm going off at 5:30am with no communication from hotel staff. Some specific flaws of our room like TVs not working and shower emitting a loud squealing noise when used.

1) It wasn't even much colder than -2 outside, but the windows leaked cold into the room like crazy. They appear to only be single pane. 2) BIGGEST PROBLEM: The cleaning staff use the elevators to move their carts between floors at EXACTLY THE SAME TIME GUESTS ARE TRYING TO CHECK OUT IN THE MORNING. So there is TERRIBLE gridlock at the elevators, and you can wait 20+ minutes for an elevator if you have more than a handful of luggage and/or a luggage cart. The management needs to somehow make sure the cleaning staff have carts positioned on the floors, so they are not blocking all the access to the elevators. 3) unless you get to the breakfast room before 7:30 a.m., the breakfast room is just way too small for all the people staying in the hotel, and the breakfast room becomes hand to hand combat.

We enjoyed the area Accessibility. Breakfast was good. We had an issue when the fire alarm went off because that the staff were not ready or knew what to do or how to direct people to all be outside of the hotel. A good number of people were just standing in the lobby throughout even when the fire trucks arrived

Newly renovated so it’s quite nice, and our room was clean. Also had the continental breakfast which was actually good, you never know with some hotels. Just found it crazy you have to pay for parking and the rates were insane for stampede weekend. Also I have never booked a hotel that charges you for early check-in, so we opted out of doing that.

It was a great area to stay in, lots within walking distance. We stayed in a two bedroom room, lots of space. The only downside was that there was a lot of people partying in the rooms on the floor. It was loud. We didn’t call as it was 3 am. So it’s not the hotels fault, just a bad night. I would definitely stay again.

My BW stay was great. The hotel was kept very clean, in spite of all of the snow and salt on the sidewalks and streets due to the VERY wintery weather. The staff were friendly and professional, especially Diana who was able to accommodate an early check-in after an early flight. House-keeping did a super job - again having to deal with salt on the carpets daily. The complimentary breakfast was a super way to start the day (try the waffles!) with really good coffee and a variety of options. The location is also very good - with loads of coffee shops, restaurants, and bars within easy walking distance.

Stayed here for the weekend while in town for a football game. Excellent location: 15 mins walk to the Calgary Tower, with lots of stores and restaurants close by. My only complaint is the windows could use some room darkening curtains or shades; facing east, the room got bright early. Breakfast alternated between sausage, scrambled eggs, and tater tots, or bacon, plain omelets, and baked beans, along with the usual assortment of cold cereals, muffins, and bagels, along with waffle makers. Would definitely stay here again!

We had the unfortunate awakening to the Fire alarm happen to us ( apparently from someone taking a hot shower) This also happened to us when we stayed here a few months ago. Cant be really helped but annoying to say the least. The continental breakfast has really gone down hill. They are not set up for this many guests. Items quickly ran out, and took forever to get replaced. We will not try and go there anymore, not worth the hassle. Our air conditioning unit wasn't working very well for the 3 days we stayed here. Ran continously and never got to the set temperature of 21? Room wasnt hot but definitely not cold either. Property is decent for the price. Staff is friendly. We will look at alternatives when booking in downtown Calgary next time.
