What guests think

At Bayside Resort, an Ascend Collection Resort, travelers highlight the superb oceanfront setting with sweeping views, generally friendly service, pet-friendly policies, and convenient on-site dining, making it a popular base for relaxed, beachside stays.

Facilities include indoor and outdoor pools and EV chargers, though guests repeatedly note the hot tub is often closed and the semi-covered indoor pool can feel chilly. Rooms range from oceanfront balconies to parking-lot or rooftop outlooks; several guests report thin walls and noise from halls, pets, or mechanical units in this older, refreshed building. The restaurant earns frequent praise for tasty meals and views, but some reviews cite inconsistent service, high prices, or limited options. Expect a comfortable coastal stay if you choose your room type carefully and allow for occasional noise or facility quirks.

Breakfast was not included but their dining room offered a good variety of options at good value. The ocean view from the room was lovely and there was easy access to the beach. The room was clean and comfortable (though I found the bed too soft and pillows too poofy and lumpy). The nespresso made great coffee for relaxing on the balcony. Big fitness area with squash court. And beautiful nature art by local artists all through the hotel, even the rooms. We would come back again. Hopefully the pool and sauna will be completed by then.

hotel is dog tolerant. lots of areas your dog is not allowed to use the washroom - you can go to the back of the dark wet muddy parking lot to let them go to the washroom. staff are always nice though. i'd say always fairly clean. my bathtub had a very slow drain so it was a bit gross to shower in (told them about it). rooms are not that sound proof. i usually stay here so its good when its affordable!

Amazing view of ocean. Tide goes out for ever. Families, dogs all enjoying the sand bars. Renovation in one area. Seems to affect lack of hot food in restaurant. Regular coffee should be in room. Not just espresso. Too strong for many of us. Bath soap missing from dispensers.

I was expecting a room with a view of the ocean but got a view of the parking lot. The room was spacious and bed comfortable. The shower was a bit aggressive. I like high pressure but it hurt how strong the pressure was. The restaurant had a nice view if you sit by the window. Make reservation if you want a view. Food was good. Staff was friendly and overall a good overnight experience.

It might be nice to have the breakfast included in the price. Lovely access to the beach. Rooms were well equipped and we had a sea view which was lovely. The rooms suffer from noise issues from guests, just not enough sound proofing. Overall a good stay, thanks to the staff.

The Hotel has and is undergoing some renovations with a clear desire to elevate up. Location is lovely as is the view from the ocean facing rooms. Really appreciated the Nespresso machine and creamers in the fridge. Currently they are missing a huge opportunity by not having their Front Desk staff, in particular, trained in customer service at the same level the hotel hopes to achieve. As first point of contact there was no greeting, actually no interest in us or our arrival other than getting my credit card to take security deposit (reservation was prepaid months ago). No sharing of the hotels amenities, and no mention of check out time. The next morning, 5 minutes after 11am housekeeping is banging (well loudly knocking as they could hear the hair dryer) on the door, immediately followed by the Front Desk phoning asking when we’d be out. Now if this was a busy conference hotel with numerous check in and check outs all expected I would fully understand, but this is Parksville, a busy SUMMER vacation town, and it’s now mid-November well in to the shoulder season. We were granted 20 extra minutes so completed our packing and promptly checked out. Again, no greeting, no questions about how was our stay, no thank you for coming or safe travels or hope to see you again. For context, there was no one else waiting to check in or out and 2 staff on, both when we checked in and checked out.

It is right on the ocean and in the middle of town. If you are on the Oceanside the view is amazing (we weren’t this time). Very dog friendly. We enjoyed our stay at this lovely oceanfront property. The food was excellent, and our room was very comfortable. It’s right next-door to a great mini golf place. We watched hummingbirds from the breakfast dining room.. There’s a walking path down to the beach, where we watched tiny crabs in the tide pools. It’s nicely refurbished, with two warm swimming pools, tons of flower baskets, and local art displays. Beautifully done! Nothing bad to say at all. Great little gem!

The food at the resort was absolutely amazing and so was the restaurant staff. All servers were terrific, telling us about spots to check out and new beaches to visit. The restaurant staff made the trip amazing and we looked forward to their cheerful disposition and touring ideas. The cleaning staff were super friendly and welcoming. Rooms are well cleaned. Great ocean and beach views. 10 minute walk to the beach board walk and park. Great area for kids. There is an awesome outdoor pool and lounge area plus indoor pool. Totally kid friendly place. Kids menu was great and priced low. I would have expected to pay more for the meals. We stayed 10 days. Rooms are noisy with lots of dogs barking as this resort allows pets and people would leave them in the room and take off for the evening. I read reviews talking about room noise and would certainly agree with most of those comments - hearing lots of snoring, washroom - we could hear it all from the next rooms. The beds are super comfy and make up for the evening noise. We did have the town balcony view however it turned out to be a view of the HVAC shed on the roof - so a terrible view. I would have expected a different room/view when staying 10 days.

The check-in was easy and quick. The room itself was modern and clean. It’s the details that count, however, as the room could have used another night stand and an additional chair besides the “desk chair” We ate dinner at the Bayside Restaurant in the hotel and food was marginal at best but it was the portion sizes that really disappointed. The prices were very high for both the quality and size and represented little value for the money. My spouse was not happy that her dinner chowder soup was soon finished after 9 or 10 spoonful's and for $15 she would have expected more. My stuffed chicken dish was mostly rice and for $35 I would have expected a chicken chest and not a chicken thigh. I would not recommend dining at this restaurant as offsite restaurants would offer more choices and value. I am not one to complain but I was very unhappy with this experience.

A disaster with the dining room. I went down for information about the menu (my child has food allergies) and spoke to a very friendly staff member, When it came time to order we selected Halibut/risotto dish for myself and the Halibut fish and chips for my child (as it was reported to not have dairy, soy, or sugar). Something that is possible since we had it a couple of times later on the trip. My dish arrived looking ok and the second dish arrived as an unadorned plate of fries with a tiny piece of fish grilled on top. I asked what happened to the fish and chips and they said they couldn’t guarantee with certainty that there wasn’t diary in it. It looked like something no one should have sent from a kitchen to a diner. I said we could change to grilled halibut steak and vegetables but then was told they were out of halibut. They eventually brought a rather sad looking piece of grilled chicken with few vegetables. When the bill arrived I was charged for my dish and the two failed attempts from the kitchen. Insult to injury - my risotto was nearly inedible. The tomatoes in the dish had been dried (were large) and like rubber. Since this was the first night of a two week trip it certainly wasn’t a good beginning. One night was plenty.
