Stayed 3 nights

There are only 5 rooms at the Sportsman Inn. We had booked a ‘Deluxe room, 1 king bed’ via Hotels.com, and on arrival were allocated a ‘Single Queen Bed’ room. When we queried this with the staff at the next-door bar, we were told there were no other rooms, and ‘what’s wrong with the room’. When we told them the Wi-Fi didn’t work, they said “yes they knew there was a problem with it, and they’d been trying to fix it, but it should work eventually”. So no there was nothing they could do to address or fix our issues. The room was tired and in need of work. As well as the dodgy wifi there were paint scrapes on the wall, the door security latch was broken, a light bulb in the bathroom was out, and stains on the one chair. Some tea bags were provided, but no kettle to boil water. (I was told to wash out the coffee machine!). It’s rare that I feel like this about a stay, but this is somewhere I would not recommend.

We asked for two rooms side by side. They were in two separate buildings. One room had no toilet paper and a big stain on one of the chairs. The other room had someone’s else’s garbage in the waste paper baskets and scratchy bed linens. Gus’s pub & grill that sits between the property has excellent food and it’s where you actually check into your hotel rooms. They provide the keys and imprint your credit card but otherwise have nothing to do do with the rooms, Walkable to the ferries to Sointula and Alert Bay.

It was a spacious, clean and comfortable room. We got a bit hot, but propped the door open to help with circulation.

The location is wonderful, and the room was oversized. But the staff did not fix the problem when our wifi and tv reception failed. In addition, I discovered that one bedframe was damaged when we checked in. I couldn’t sit on the end of the bed without the other end of the mattress lifting up. I called to report this immediately, but no one ever came to fix it.
