What guests think

At Whitewood Inn, travellers often find large, budget-friendly rooms and a hot complimentary breakfast, alongside friendly staff, but also note an older, worn property with closed pool and sauna, rough parking areas, and ongoing maintenance and housekeeping issues.

Several reviews note late-night noise and occasional security concerns, such as a locked interior gate and disturbances near the bar. The restaurant and bar are appreciated for solid meals, though availability and pricing can be inconsistent. Expect a no-frills roadside stay best suited to a short stopover.

Friendly and helpful staff, clean and spacious room and bathroom. The parking area in front of the hotel is fine but the approach is very rutted. We were there in dry weather. It would likely be muddy in wet weather.

The pool was closed, the sauna was closed and these were reasons we choose this hotel. Nothing on the website indicates this. The toilet needed to be flushed 3x before toilet paper flushed, the freezer of the fridge was so full of ice you couldn’t open it. When we went to check out there was no one there. Breakfast was good.

While checkin was at 3, on our way at 3:45 i got a call from the property to inform me that they woulsnt hold the room past 5pm without a credit card. I found this unacceptable as there is no indication of this on their website and we did use a credit card to hold the room. Why would i give my credit card information over the phone?? Also, why am I getting calls like this?? If i arrive at midnight my room.should still be there. Our room was dirty on check in. If i couldve cancelled I wouldve and drove to moosomin instead. There was hair and stubble hair on bathroom counter. Cigarette burns in bedding. The owner is very nice but the property is in bad shape overall. The one light in the room stopped working and the olug didnt work at all after it stopped. The rooms have access to an emptied interior pool that could be very hazardous to children and there is nothing blocking it off. There is a free breakfast included which was good and the beds were comfortable. The latch on the door was missing so no extra barrier for safety. We wont be staying here again.

Pros: Breakfast is included and was good. They offered cereal, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, cubed fried potatoes, toast. Coffee was good. Beds & pillows were comfortable enough, towels a nice bright white; toilet appeared clean. Staff was friendly and efficient. Please note: the pool and sauna are empty and appear to be in need of repair. No microwave or coffee machine in room but there is a mini fridge. Wi fi was excellent, decent selection for tv. Cons: lobby looked like the floors hadn't been cleaned in quite some time. Eating area tables, benches and floor not clean. Our suite looked like it hadn't been cleaned or vacuumed; the window was broken and bent (unable to open); bathroom fan not working; broken drawer on dresser.

No cups or glasses of ANY kind in the room. Keurig with 1 mystery pod and a little packet of jam. No microwave. Air conditioner just plain weird…difficult to figure out - I never did. Pool and hot tub empty with no guardrails that I noticed. “Entertainment” area near pool area was just a vacant space. Grommet on shower curtain snapped in 2. Breakfast was mediocre. 2 other tourists and 3 or 4 construction workers seen at breakfast. Whitewood Inn is on life-support via VLT’s and sketchy customers! It was a bed - the only good redeeming quality! I should have driven the extra 30 minutes and stayed at the Best Western in Moosomin, SK. At 7:00 a.m. I had to unlock the outer door so I could put my bags in my car!

This property is in need of some TLC and upgrades. We had pre-paid for our room when we booked it, but they weren’t sure if they had a room for us when we arrived. They had to check with Maintenance to find us a room. The air conditioner only works when you turn on the light, so at night, you have to unscrew the bulb (which was hanging from the ceiling). Also, the smoke detector was no longer on the bracket. The parking lot is all gravel and full of potholes.

Breakfast is included in your stay, and runs for quite long, 6-10 am, which is awesome. You get scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, and hash. Water is available, so is coffee and tea. The grounds are pretty lacklustre but Saskatchewan is prairie land so there isn’t much they can do about that. I wish the windows were tinted so we could open them daytime while maintaining some privacy, given that my room window faced one of the entrances to the property. Overall staff was good. I mostly interacted with the night staff, the day staff kept to themselves. Night staff were friendly and welcoming, helping us get around an issue when Expedia couldn’t pull through (we had to change our booking because we had lesser numbers than planned but Expedia was not cooperating). I would rate my overall experience 7/10

We had an excellent dinner in the bar and a few drinks. The staff are very friendly and made our stay much better. We will definitely make this place a stop our next way through.
