What guests think

At Staybridge Suites Hamilton - Downtown by IHG, guests often highlight warm, helpful staff, a varied complimentary breakfast, and spacious, suite-style rooms with kitchenettes that suit longer stays, along with convenient security features and an indoor pool and gym.

The downtown location is walkable to FirstOntario Centre, Hess Village and transit, but many reviews note visible homelessness, late-night noise from nearby clubs, and a general lack of comfort outside. Parking is secure but limited and paid, sometimes requiring overflow across the street and occasional access frustrations. A few guests mention dated or dim furnishings, intermittent housekeeping or key-card issues, and occasional maintenance concerns such as weak water pressure or noisy appliances. Overall, expect a clean, amenity-rich stay with excellent service amid an urban setting that won’t suit everyone.

Limited parking and the card reader for the parking wasn't working well. Also cops told us we couldn't park out front to check in, but counter staff said it was ok.

Stay was good but staff should tell people to park across the street and not waste people's time suggesting there may be space in the actual hotel underground parking. The hotel only has one small level of underground parking. Otherwise you have to park across the street on the 4th floor. Not ideal for parents traveling with kids but everything else about the hotel was fine.

Good variety and volume of food available at breakfast well maintained mini gym/workout facility. We are fortunate to have been able to park in the last space in the small underground parking. There is lots of outdoor parking adjacent but not well lit and without security.

Parking should be included in the price or told upfront at booking. It was $20 extra and then the parking spaces were limited so we had to park in their overflow across the street...not good at all from a security perspective. And there would never be enough parking spaces on the hotel property as it was very very limited based on the hotel capacity. The bathroom sink is behind the bathroom entry door... not good.

I didn't like that you have to go up to the second floor to get to the lobby. The fitness room was nice, but you had to walk to the first floor and to the back of the building to get to. Not convenient to use at all. There's construction going on across the street, so it's pretty noisy starting early.

Hotel was clean and very well taken care of. The room was excellent even being beside the elevator. Couldn't hear it. Maybe because we on the top floor. Lots of homeless and drug addicts outside in the parking lot next to the property. But thankfully they have secured underground parking and security measures to enter the hotel. Didn't deter our stay at all. I'd give the hotel and staff 5/5

The room was clean when we got there and the housekeeping maintained the cleanliness through the entire stay. The gym was easily accessible and had sufficient equipment. The check in and check out process was smooth and the front desk staff were friendly and helpful. Overall, a great stay.

This hotel is a bit run-down — old carpet in the room, old curtains. Bad sound profiting — we here everything from rooms above (toilet, finger tapping, ..). You have the smell of nearby cooking. The stairways stunk of urine. Like a dump. Hotel location not inspiring.

Very lovely room, King Suite room and kitchen had plenty of space to feel like a comfy getaway. Hess Village and Art Gallery very close. First Ontario Centre and also a comedy club were options to check out. Breakfast was delicious, lots of comfortable seating available. The only thing I would mention for the people who are light sleepers, it is technically a downtown area so you do hear traffic noise throughout the night. I’m a deep sleeper so it didn’t bother me.

Really enjoyed our time here. The room was nice, clean. The pool was above our expectations and the perfect temperature. Easy to get in and enjoy ourselves with our son. Didn’t care for the smells in the hallway. Strong cooking odours. And the air conditioning unit in our room made a loud rattling sound. Staff was friendly and breakfast was good. Easy parking and grateful it was underground to we felt safe leaving our car there. It’s unfortunate how dirty the city is. I’ve never seen so much litter, vandalism, boarded up buildings. I wish people took more pride in their city. I would stay here again. Good hotel, reasonable price, and nice to have the kitchen facilities as an option in the rooms.

Despite being a thin mattress, the sofa bed was still comfortable. My only minor complaint would be the lack of privacy in the washroom. I was with a close friend, so it was no problem. But if I were with a romantic partner, the ability to hear everything happening in the washroom would have been a little awkward.

Upon check in, i was notifed that the 1 bedroom king that i had reserved was not available due to previous clients extending thier stay. My room category was bummped down to thier basic room with a queen beed and desk. Disnt even have the couch. They tried to spin it that seeing we didnt get what we booked we would only be charged the rate for the lesser room. Well i would hope so. They also threw in a 12 dollar bottlenof wine. Feel like it was a bait and switch. They dmsaud they did try and calm me. Well yes they did, 2 hours before our arrival when we were allready just about to the city. Kind of late to make alternitive arrangments. Didnt even leave a message when they called. Second day room cards stopped working. Had to leave my car and wife at the entrance to the parking garage to gonin and have the cards looked at. The desk staff reporgrammed them, went back tk my car and low and behold, they still didnt work. Had to trek back to the desk once again to get new cards. Bed was uncomfortable, duvet kept comming apart. The last factor that made our stay bad was the fact of the homeless, and drug adicts all around the hotel. I know this partnis not thier fault but still dis not make the stay very enjoyable. We ended up calli g our trip short and left with out staying the second night.

Downtown hamilton is FULL of drug users and im from oshawa. A den was right outside my window. I was on the 3rd floor. There are no lines to park on the blavard in front of the hotel so i didnt know it was parking. The entrance door stays locked bc of the sketchy nabourhood. The lobby is on the second floor. Additional 20 bucks to park in the parking garage under the building but there are no spot. But there is parking across the street in a different parking garage from the 4th floor and up. Yet i got a warning on my windshield for parking there? The staff was amazing. The room smelt steongly like vinigar and mildew but went away when i turned the ac off. Had to unplug it bc it was too cold and the controle pad didnt work. After all that and i was very pleased with how clean it was. Also how i had a full kitchen(staying one night so didnt need it). The noise of the city was absolutly insane. I had earplugs in as well as a noice machine on my phone on full blast and i could still hear the motercycles, emergency sirens, and crappy cars echoing off the buildings. Breafast was amazing but i was so tired. Great hotel honestly but super duper sucky location.

This property was terrible. It’s dirty, unsafe and inconvenient. When I arrived there was nowhere to park, and you can’t access the parking lot until you check in because you need an access card. So I had to park at a parking lot across the street. The carpets were filthy, and I could hear every toilet flush above me. The furniture is cheap and the pillows stunk. The area is not safe, I do not recommend walking at night. Even during the day it’s not great. But if you’re looking for bars or restaurants there’s an abundant amount at Hess Village which is very close.
