What guests think

Residence & Conference Centre- Barrie provides budget, dorm-style two-bedroom suites and is praised for low prices, convenient highway and hospital access, and practical space, but expectations should match its simple, student-residence setup.

Most have a small kitchen area with full-size fridges and microwaves, but TVs often lack cable and there are typically no dishes, utensils, kettles, or coffee makers. Cleanliness and maintenance are inconsistent, with repeated mentions of peeling wallpaper, worn furnishings, bugs or odors in some rooms, and occasional construction or taped windows; others report tidy spaces. Service feedback is mixed, ranging from friendly, accommodating front desks to slow check-in, unreachable staff, and refund or room-issue frustrations. Expect a simple stay focused on space and location rather than amenities or polish.

This was convenient for an overnight sleep. Beware that when you check in LATE there is parking that says visitor parking and if you are only staying from midnight to 6am you figure thats ok seeing as there is no time limit. At 6am find a $30 parking ticket and down the row there was a machine, but not lit up at night and sign did not say 2 hour parking limit. Very unfair!!

Great value; dormitory accommodation, affordable, very few amenities, unexpected options like a pool table and barbecues. NOT a hotel - no pool, no ice machines. Beds and pillows are made for durability, not comfort - but adequate. Exceptionally affordable for an inexpensive stay. Full kitchen but only a microwave and no dishes or utensils; wonderful for having takeout meals at the table & chairs. Two bedrooms, a bathroom and kitchenette for half the price of an inexpensive hotel. Close to the beach on Kempenfelt Bay, so great for a family beach weekend.

The property is absolutely stunning, and the campus is well kept and run with security 24/7 so you don’t have to worry about your safety on site. The room… was rather dingy. There was mud and dust caked in the corners, the towels had some stains, the bedding was old and outdated and scratchy. If you’re looking for somewhere affordable with a kitchenette though it does the trick! I recommend bringing your own blanket, and something to stream to your TV as well as there is wifi but no cable.

Full size refrigerator with freezer.. close to a big shopping ctr.tv with no air channels but if you have an hdmi cable you could hook up your computer or tablet.bed was not to bad..my back didn't hurt in the morning. The security was great and all were very friendly

Rooms

Two-bedroom, dorm-style suites are functional and spacious with kitchenettes and full-size fridges/microwaves, but TVs often have no cable and kitchens lack dishes or kettles. Beds tend to be very firm or worn, and hallway noise can bother some; AC is generally effective.

We like the 2 rooms at this property, and that’s why we stay regularly. The room we had this time had 2 very worn out mattresses that caved in the centre making sleep rough. After night 1, I asked if we could somehow have that fixed, and was told a simple “no”. There were a few large groups of people who had unsupervised kids that were very loud and playing in the elevator area which echoed Dow the hall. Reception did not answer the phone to address the issue. We had sleeping children and found this very annoying. We will likely stay elsewhere next visit to Barrie.

Super idea, great use of seasonal college residence. Units were stocked with the basics of any hotel, yet provided two private bedrooms as opposed to the standard 2 beds of a hotel room. Loved the full size fridge in the kitchenette. Downside, no kettle or coffee maker, TVs did not have remotes for the service provider (Shaw in this case). Free WIFI saved the day with a cable hookup from laptop to TV. Would definitely stay here again.

Average budget accommodation. These are basically student dorm suites rented during Summer. Check in is super slow, one person only and it was a line up of more than 10 guests. The room was not clean but because of the reception we received upon checkin, we didn’t bother to say anything. Although there were TVs in the room neither of them worked and when I asked I was told I needed a computer. Since when is a computer needed to watch Tv? There were other things.Very very rude people.
