What guests think

Velora Hinton, an Ascend Collection Hotel draws praise for newly renovated, clean, comfortable rooms and friendly, helpful staff, with many guests appreciating the convenient location near restaurants and good value compared with staying in Jasper.

Several reviews report the pool and hot tub frequently closed or under renovation, sometimes without advance notice. Noise from the highway and thin walls, along with loud in-room A/C units, affects sleep for some. Breakfast ranges from hot and plentiful to limited or cold, and a few guests noted small bathrooms or EV charging frustrations. Overall, it suits travelers seeking an updated, comfortable base rather than extensive amenities.

This property is a bit rundown. Breakfast is sub-par, with all cutlery, cups and dishes disposable, and not many options to choose from. Room is very clean, but not many towels or toiletries available. Ofcourse, you can always ask for more, as we had to. Hot tub was empty and non usable, indoor pool is lukewarm at the best, as well as the in room shower. I will choose somewhere else next time.

Check in staff were great. Disappointed to learn that the pool and hot tub were closed for renovations. This should have been advertised. We looked to book a facility with a hot tub available. No compensation was offered. Bed was comfy, room was large and had lots of amenities.

Air Conditioners / Heaters Noisy, Bed was Firm and lumpy. Electric Car Charging costs $0.50/kwh plus a $0.45/min idle fee, Stupid high for a destination charger. Will not be returning, and can not recommend to others.

The hotel admin should have reported to the expedia website and their own website that the pool was under maintenance. Families expect a pool to entertain their children. The workout room was disorganized, unclean, and with hardly working equipment.

Good value for the money. Great location and staff were welcoming. Room was clean but in need of repair. Also hot tub was broken down and pool area not clean and tile surfaces were extremely slippery. Breakfast was complimentary and had an assortment of items to choose from.

The property is newly renovated and the beds were very comfortable. The only negative thing I could say was that they should let the guests know before hand that the pool is still under renovation and not after making the reservation. My kids were really disappointed that they could not swim

EV chargers that didn’t work and staff didn’t know if they worked or not. If staff doesn’t know then who would? Room bathroom so small you can barely fit inside.

This property is not well maintained and was not clean. Our room smelled like dog and there was dog hair all over the floor. Not even sure it was vacuumed. We did ask to be moved and the next room was slightly better but still not very clean. Poor beds, the hot tub was not operational, overall a dated and tired property. We would not stay here again.

Missing light cover. Filthy furniture, missing handles on night table and dresser, dirty microwave handle, no toilet paper holder, stained lamp shades, door doesn't close properly, filthy carpet, smells like old smoke and all for a $300.00 price tag. Super disappointing.

Soundproofing was inadequate, you could hear guests in upstairs rooms just walking on the floors. Breakfast was in an Indian restaurant next door, which had an overhanging smell from the cuisine the night before. Hotel charges $25 CAD per night for use of a crib for baby, whereas all other hotels we have stayed at in Canada do not charge for a crib.

The hotel was modern and bright. The room was very spacious and design was well thought out - there was plenty of storage areas and hooks for towels, coats, etc. The sink in the washroom though was unusually high, so might be something to consider if you have young kids. We really enjoyed our short stay here and loved the location. So many dining/ shopping options nearby. Hotel breakfast does need improvement but nice to have available when you’re in a pinch in the morning.

The staff was as helpful as they could be, however, in almost 20 years of travelling multiple times per year for work and leisure, this is the noisiest hotel I have ever been in. We could hear the people in the room above whispering and the phone that was set to vibrate going off. We will not be returning to the property and would not recommend it to anyone looking to sleep.
