Ambrose Hotel was great for location to city centre. Walkable to all main attractions around. Close to Metro and shopping and restaurants. The cafe was convenient for morning coffee and bite to eat. Room was spacious and had character. Small fridge in the room would be a helpful addition. Otherwise great comfortable stay in Montreal.

Located in an old building with some charm, large room and quiet. Be prepared for the winding stairway up if you are on the 3rd floor. No early check in allowed, strictly 3pm. Nice to have the cafe downstairs with the morning smell of cinnamon rolls! Located downtown but there are plenty of restaurants and cafes around.

The property was very dated. I had to use my own outlet to provide a usb in the room. Unfortunately, I left it behind when packing. The rooms are small but adequate. There is no lotion or other samples I’m used to having in a room. The staff was nice. The area was excellent!

Great location, an older property, excellent coffee shop in the lobby, lovely staff. Room was clean, quiet and comfortable, but it is an older property showing its age a bit. Good value overall for the price though. Also parking is not always available, but there is plenty of street parking.

The room was clean. The building's very old and can use some updating. No elevator very steep steps to get to your room fortunately staff helps. Plenty of shops nearby. You can pay for one of the two parking spaces on site.

Great location, lovely communal patio! The Wi-fi in our room was spotty and the TV couldn’t find a signal, we never contacted anybody about it as it didn’t bother me, but my mom had to sit in the bathroom to get internet and she does like TV.

Easy access to Mont Royal and the art museum. The concierge was helpful with storing our bags and directing us to available parking. There is limited paid parking at the hotel. There is a sweet little cafe in the hotel but we did not eat there. The basic room was big enough, clean, and had everything we needed except for hair conditioner in the shower (the refillable container was empty). The curtains do not close all the way and one was partially unattached. The rest of the hotel is worn and all of the carpeted common areas needed vacuuming. The biggest problem was the air conditioner unit in the bedroom dripped water all over the floor and on the TV that is wall-mounted under it. Some touch-ups and basic cleaning would go a long way to making this hotel worth the cost.

The hotel staff were very responsive and easy to reach by email. The young folks working at the cafe in day time were very friendly. There was supposed to be check-in instructions sent through expedia, but it seems like there was an issue because we had to call to receive those (this could be an issue through expedia). There are no staff in the hotel at night which seems a little weird and problematic but we were able to get in. The bed had really strong smelling detergent on the blanket which gave me terrible asthma. There was also a weird like… fluffy foam blanket between sheet and blanket. The toilet seat and bathroom fan were broken and the shampoo and body soap in shower were very low and ran out. The room was mostly very clean but there was a lot of dust on baseboards especially around bathroom door. Overall, the experience was fine but for the conditions, I’d expect to be paying $60 not $170/ night. The AC worked well, the essential areas were clean, and the street was very quiet, so if you have to stay here… it’ll do.

This was not as advertised, Images online do not match the property. Room was dirty, bath was dirty, chair was stained and windows filthy. Dirty scratched walls, filthy. The overall property was in disrepair and disgusting at all levels. Also, a paid car port was in a secured alley and filthy. This is actually one of the worst hotels I’ve seen in over 40 years.

The room was very clean, modern bathroom, bed was very comfortable. Clean bedding. All the amenities I needed like shampoo, conditioner and body wash, even two chocolates on my bed. Loved the Victorian building and having the little cafe was a bonus. The location was amazing. Two blocks off of Saint Catherine's Street and only a few more blocks to the Bell Centre. Stairs were hard for me but otherwise, the staff was lovely and held my luggage until I was ready to depart. I would stay there again.

This place looked great from the outside but it is definitely not a three star as billed. It's a wonderful old building but has not been kept up. The carpet in the common areas is stained brown in passageways, the corridors leading away from the rooms are falling apart. Not a nice environment. Ammenities are lacking: our toilet got plugged and there was no plunger. There was no coffee or tea making, no iron, etc. We left early. Not worth it.

We love this little hotel. There is no elevator and somehow we keep getting the 3rd floor which is 42 steps up a wonderful winding staircase! I could be mistaken but I thought I had booked a room with a King (although it would be impossible to move one up there) and wound up with a large double or small queen. The room is an adequate size but some are like large closets! Would be helpful to have iron and board in but space is an issue. Its location is perfect.

Room was much smaller than in the pictures and the shower door didn’t close properly so water leaked onto the floor every time it was used. The room was on the ground floor and the windows didn’t have screens which felt a little unsafe. The cafe workers were absolutely lovely and the location was great.

Located on a quiet side street, walkable to shopping and restaurant and easy access by car. The coffee shop in the lobby is nice, great coffee and pastries. The room was a bit small but we were only there to sleep and shower. Our only complaint is that all the bed mattresses were very uncomfortable and we did not have a good sleep.

Really excellent budget option. My room was small but clean, comfortable, and functional. Great location near McGill. Maybe the only downside was that they don't have a lot of people working the desk, but that wasn't an issue for me.

Lovely older cafe close to downtown Montreal. Upon arrival around 11pm my key wasn't in the lockbox, but the concierge came right away when called and made a new key for me to make my way in. Everything was clean and available and the staff were friendly and conversational. Highly recommended.

Hotel Ambrose is ideally located if your interested in visiting downtown Montreal. We were in town for the Canadians home opener. The Bell Center is in easy walking distance from the hotel as are many other attractions and restaurants. We found the staff to be helpful , check in was a breeze. The room was clean and bright and the bed was very comfortable. There are only 2 negatives: parking could be a bit of a challenge and there are no elevators and the hotel has many stairs. We would certainly recommend this hotel.

Great location, historic building, functional rooms. I cannot however express enough gratitude to the staff who discovered that I had accidentally booked our stay one night shorter than needed. After trying to reach me for hours while we were out, they ultimately graciously scooped up our belongings and relocated them to another room which they added at my apologetic request to please be able to stay another night. Great location, historic building, functional rooms. I cannot however express enough gratitude to the staff who discovered that I had accidentally booked our stay one night shorter than needed. After trying to reach me for hours while we were out, they ultimately graciously scooped up our belongings and relocated them to another room which they added at my apologetic request to please be able to stay another night. We were misinformed that parking on the curb directly opposite was free. We were fined $90 CAD and will refuse to pay. The entry way was dirty with dirty cups overflowing and lots of trash on sidewalk. Floors and rugs inside were not swept. The manager was rude (yelling) to my wife when she complained about parking ticket. The young staff were reasonably courteous--the only redeeming feature of our stay.

This is a cute little boutique-style hotel that is an absolute last-minute steal for its location. Sure, you might have to carry your luggage up a couple flights of steps and the decor is done on the cheap, but the bed was comfortable and the airconditioning was divine. The best part of the experience was the staff. The young woman running the cafe and front dest in the evenings was an absolute delight.

It is self check in, but I didn’t receive check in instructions to my email prior to arriving, so I had to call to be directed on what to do. My washroom was in the hallway and the code for the washroom would not work. Someone was later sent to address the issue. Staff should work on phone etiquette.

My only issue was the parking situation I parked on the road in front of the building and it was fine didn't get a ticket great place to stay very CLEAN Close to the main street St Catherine.

Located in an old building with some charm, large room and quiet. Be prepared for the winding stairway up if you are on the 3rd floor. No early check in allowed, strictly 3pm. Nice to have the cafe downstairs with the morning smell of cinnamon rolls! Located downtown but there are plenty of restaurants and cafes around.

It’s two old homes that have been combined and converted to bedrooms. It’s a little funky, but in a good way. Very conveniently located on a quiet street with good access to McGill U, Mont Royal Park, and shops/restaurants. The receptionists/baristas are very friendly.

Hotel Ambrose is a super cute and cozy hotel, close walking distance to Mount Royal, McGill University, downtown shopping, and half an hour from Old Montreal and the port. Definitely recommend!

The property is quite in a nice area & walking distance to Metro Subway. My studio style room I stayed in on the third (3rd) floor was very cozy & very clean. The queen bed was very comfortable. I felt like I was in my own bed at home. And, the staff were very nice & accommodating. Excellent customer service & I highly recommend this property who are looking for a place to stay in Montreal.

Great location, an older property, excellent coffee shop in the lobby, lovely staff. Room was clean, quiet and comfortable, but it is an older property showing its age a bit. Good value overall for the price though. Also parking is not always available, but there is plenty of street parking.

Really excellent budget option. My room was small but clean, comfortable, and functional. Great location near McGill. Maybe the only downside was that they don't have a lot of people working the desk, but that wasn't an issue for me.

The room was very clean, modern bathroom, bed was very comfortable. Clean bedding. All the amenities I needed like shampoo, conditioner and body wash, even two chocolates on my bed. Loved the Victorian building and having the little cafe was a bonus. The location was amazing. Two blocks off of Saint Catherine's Street and only a few more blocks to the Bell Centre. Stairs were hard for me but otherwise, the staff was lovely and held my luggage until I was ready to depart. I would stay there again.

Located on a quiet side street, walkable to shopping and restaurant and easy access by car. The coffee shop in the lobby is nice, great coffee and pastries. The room was a bit small but we were only there to sleep and shower. Our only complaint is that all the bed mattresses were very uncomfortable and we did not have a good sleep.

Checked in at 1 am -self check in was fine. Then the reality hit. Grotty hallways that haven’t seen a vacuum in an age. Room grubby , extension cables for bed side lights. Ancient ,tatty ,broken furniture. Not remotely like the photos.Thick mould all around the shower and tiling.hole in ceiling covered with tape. “Bathroom in the corner” was an absolute joke. Too tired to pursue. Slept in our clothes, left at 7 am to escape but left our bags in room just in case. Curtains hanging off rails didn’t close so had to peg shut…which at least hid the filthy view of the bins and gave us some privacy.Found an Airbnb for the following night, grabbed our bags and took off to the new place.Also charged my card months prior to booking which is not what we usually experience with “pay at property “.
