What guests think

At Fox Hotel and Suites, many guests praise the friendly staff, the cave style hot pool, and a walkable location with handy bus passes, while noting compact standard rooms and parts of the property and amenities that feel dated.

Many non-suite rooms lack in-room A/C, mini-fridges or microwaves, and thin walls can allow noise; some guests also found the beds uncomfortable, while suites offer more space and sometimes balconies or views. Cleanliness is generally good but inconsistent, with repeated mentions of dirty common areas or bathrooms, slow drains, and maintenance quirks; the grotto can be crowded, lukewarm or over-chlorinated at times, and towels or sauna heat may be lacking. On-site Chili’s is convenient and often well reviewed, though breakfast isn’t included and quality varies; underground parking is free but first-come and can fill, and the lone elevator is slow. Expect a characterful stay with standout ambience and trade-offs in room features.

The Fox Hotel is a fun hotel to visit. The staff are very friendly, rooms are clean and well appointed. The Hot Pools are amazing. It is a very close replication of the original Banff Cave and Basin Hot Springs. We had fun, comfort and great food.

I didn't get parking on the first night but there was street parking available. My unit didn't have a fridge or microwave. The room was clean but very small and uninteresting. It was unremarkable. The grotto pool and dry sauna was really nice although the sauna didn't get that hot. I'm not sure if it was great value but it was clean enough.

The hotel is rustic and older, but priced as a higher end property. There is parking, and although it’s complimentary and a parking pass is issued for display, the underground parade is open to the public and almost always full. When brought this issue up to the front desk, there was nothing they would do about it. The rooms are small and have cheap coffee. The restaurant on site is Chillis…a chain restaurant and generic food there is just okay, nothing special at all. Be prepared to walk a good distance to get good coffee and breakfast in the morning or for a nice dinner and shopping, as this hotel is about 1-2 kms walk. The sauna and hot pool are just warm…not very hot. The gym is the worst I’ve seen in a hotel. No treadmill or machines, and smells like feet. I would recommend other hotels first.

The room was small but clean. Beds were comfy but rooms were lacking refgrierator and microwaves, which in current day and world are both quite standard room amenities. Front desk guy was energetic and kept on trying to sell us an upgrade. The highlight of our trip was the hot pool. The hotel overall needs a few touches of maintenance. For instance the light in pool had fallen out onto the floor with a large cable protruding out seeming very unsafe, dry sauna didnt heat up properly...etc

Ken at the front desk was welcoming, kind & helpful. We appreciated his guidance and taking the time to answer our questions. I was disappointed at the noise we heard while trying to have downtime or sleep. Lots of banging, could hear people talking through the walls. I also feel that it could have been cleaner. There was mould in the shower; likely due to not thorough cleaning & the fan in the bathroom didnt work.

Filthy. It’s really disappointing because this hotel has so much potential. We stayed in a suite that would’ve been great for our family but will never return as it was so DIRTY. Carpets had hair, fur, crumbs, candies….Went to get an extra blanket from the closet and it was covered in pet hair. We have a child who has a serious allergy to dogs which made her so ill all night. Coughing, swollen eyes and itchy. Such a rough night staying at the fox. Ruined our Banff trip. Hit the road first thing. Little one started feeling better as soon as we left. Shocking… Hotel gave us a discount to compensate which was nice but would never pay to stay at a place like this. Total waste.

The rooms were nice and clean. The grotto warm pool was the highlight for the kids for sure! There is no fridge or microwave but they did provide a kettle and coffee maker in each room. The beds are ‘hotel queens’ which are closer to a double bed. If you have an adjoining room, you can literally hear everything happening in the next room. We unfortunately had dogs in the next room that barked non stop throughout the day. The staff tried diligently to get a hold of the occupants to no avail, they did try to accommodate us by moving us rooms but it was already late in the day and the kids were settled in. The staff were very helpful for sure, just unlucky with unfortunate neighbors.

We liked the look of the hotel. It was clean. We barely slept cause of the late party people - the walls are like paper. Then when we finally slept the people getting up slamming their baggage the rolling it noisily woke us Would be great to have another breakfast option other than Chili’s The hot tub is not as big as it appears online and be prepared for a SMALLER than you think you are getting room. For $600 it was TINY! Staff are great, parking great, bus tickets make it easy to travel through banff. Weird blinds - it’s all or nothing - everyone can see you in your room or your in darkness. No water in room. No fan in bathroom, Main complaint is that we barely had room for our bags in the room we paid a mortgage payment for!

Maybe just us. TV and the programs are very basic and feel like we are back to 90’s. One day we were out around 10 am and got a note that if we needed a room cleaning service, we could notice the front desk. We did but when we returned around 5, the room was not cleaned. On the first day checking in, the front desk staff did not tell us that we got $15 credit per day for dinning given by Expedia. So we “wasted” 2 days of credit as we went to designated restaurants without knowing the benefits. Also, thr staff did not offer transit pass until we asked. A bit disappointed that he did not provide info ahead of time.

The Fox Hotel and Suites tried to add an extra $250 to my room fee at check in- the staff member just handed me the debit/credit machine and asked me to pre-authorize the full amount. When I questioned this & quoted the amount that was on my booking from Expedia, they corrected the error but blamed the error on their "new" debit/credit card machine. No - a debit/credit card machine does not come up with the amount - a staff member has to input this amount into the machine. I also noticed that an additional charge was added to my credit card. So I went to the front desk to point out this mistake. Again I was told this was due to the hotel's "new" computer system that the staff member said was 2 months old. It took 3 days after checkout for the hotel to bill my credit card. In the end the amount was correct. The outer door to our room would not lock. I had to go to the front desk to report this - I was given instructions on how to reset to card mechanism on the door. It did work eventually but it took quite a few tries to "reset" it. The TV in the living room in our room did not work. This was because the top part of the plug in under the TV did not work - the bottom plug did thankfully. The floor in the room was quite dirty. It looked like it hadn't been really cleaned in a while - lots of dust/dirt. We had margaritas at Chili's that were supposed to have 2 oz of tequila each. I'm guessing that there was probably 0.5 oz in each drink - definitely watering down the drinks.

Our stay was okay. The rooms are very tired and the bed was lumpy and rickety. The hot tub made up for it- was fun to sit and watch the snow fall. Not sure if I would call the hot tub kid friendly as when we went there was all couples and they weren’t very happy with my kid exploring which made it awkward. The property was nice, loved the pool, the fact that there was a restaurant onsite, and the proximity to everything. The room could use a refresh, not dirty, just worn. Wallpaper ripped and couches could use cleaning. The only real concern we had was housekeeping, arriving either at 9am as we were trying to get out the door or really late in the afternoon.
