What guests think

At Holiday Inn Express & Suites Cookeville by IHG, guests frequently praise the friendly service, convenient location off I-40, and generally clean, comfortable rooms, while feedback shows notable variability in maintenance, housekeeping consistency, and certain amenities.

Many guests enjoy the complimentary breakfast. Common drawbacks include recurring pool closures or green water, limited parking at times, and noise from nearby traffic or a truck stop. Several reviews also mention a sizeable incidental hold that can take days to release. This suits road-trippers seeking easy access and a simple overnight.

We checked in and got unloaded, the kids were excited to get in the pool after a long car ride. Went to the pool and CLOSED! We were not informed about this at all. FAIL

The room we booked had a pull out couch with it, it looked as though housekeeping had not changed the sheet from a previous stay. The sheet was very dirty, didn’t want my family sleeping on that bed. Housekeeping didn’t come in the room for the first 3 days of our stay to take trash, dirty towels or even vacuum the floors. Had to ask the front desk to have that done on the 4th day of our stay. Parking spaces was difficult to find since the parking lot is small. Not ample parking for the size of the hotel.

The hotel phones did not work, the continental breakfast was supposed to go until 10 and food was gone and cleaned up before 9. Pool closed. No ice on any floor! And the staff was rude! Emailed the hotel management because you couldn’t call them. And still have had no response from them.

The first room they put me and my family in the a/c didn't work. The next room had no tv remote. The pool was closed for "maintenance" (it was a gross green color). The next morning at breakfast my wife saw a cockroach behind the coffee pots in the breakfast room. The staff were friendly and trying to be helpful through all of that.

It had said on the website that there was an outdoor pool and once we got there was told it wasn't open. Part of the reason we chose this place.

Overall a nice hotel. But we felt that the sheets on one of the beds had not been changed before our arrival. There were crumbs, hairs, etc. on the sheets once we pulled the spread back. I don't ask much from a hotel, but clean sheets is a must!

There was hair in bathtub and bathroom floor. Had to go get new clean sheets, had stains on the ones on bed. The second set, the fitted sheet was fine. The other sheet also had a stain. The halls didn’t look vacuumed. The elevators looked like they haven’t been wiped down in weeks. It smelled like mildew. Bathroom floors were cracked. Much needed cleaning needed in bathroom. Water damage on walls of bathroom.

Pros: very accessible to shopping & the interstate, great staff, great breakfast, & comfy bed. Cons: stains on furniture, spilt juice that was never cleaned inside fridge (in fact fridge door was left ajar so took forever to get cold), & noise level for rooms on the East facing side was extremely disappointing. I’m used to normal hotel noise but getting woken up at 5:30am from garbage pickup (literally sounded like a car crash) & loud vehicles on on-ramps to the interstate made an unrestful night sleeps. Most of these are simple & are easily remedied, but take my advice & ask for West facing rooms!!

We were put near the elevator...not only did we hear that stupid elevator all night long....we heard doors SLAMMING until 1:30am. Probably 20 times at a minimum. Across the hall, they had a barking dog that barked all 20 times the doors were slammed. This was the worst nights stay I've ever had. We had an event the next morning and we were exhausted by the noise level. Definitely bring heavy duty earplugs if you stay there!!!

We were in room 315. It was VERY damp. The air conditioner blew cold air but didn’t remove humidity from the room. It was so damp, we couldn’t sleep. The covers, carpet, towels, and all our clothes were wet. We tried to get some kind of compensation from the hotel but they said we had to go through Expedia.

The first room air conditioner did not cool the room even after several hours. They had no one who could re pair it. We were in a suite. We had to change rooms to a standard room which was okay but they could not refund the difference in the price to us at the hotel, we have to call a 800 number to try and get the re fund. The se cond room thermostat did not work but at least the room was cool, but we were unable to control the temperature. They need a/c help. Also the breakfast was was poorly done.

Room was paid in advance to check in. A charge for “incidentals” in the amount of the room charge was applied to my card immediately upon check in. Was informed by front desk personnel the charge would be removed immediately upon check out. Again, confirmation was made upon check out the fee would be removed immediately. The next day the charge was still applied. I contacted the hotel and was told it takes up to 10 business days for their system to drop the charge. I will not stay at another Holiday Inn. I find it outrageous their system can place a charge/hold on your account immediately however it takes them up to 10 days to release the hold.

Reservation was thru 3rd party (Expedia) which seems to allow hotel to require deposit of reservation amount for incidentals. (this has always been 50.00 at other hotels I've stayed at. ) This equaled 200.00 unplanned for. takes 7-10 days for it to be returned to accnt. Was explained to me its because hotel waits for 3rd party payment to be posted I believe? I did not find a written policy for the hotel.
