Great location for access to the sights. The views from room and dining room were good, could watch the boats and dolphins. Free breakfast was terrific, excellent selection of Turkish breakfast foods. Room was comfortable and clean, but could be noisy in morning as we were directly below the dining room, but it was time to get up anyway. Only downsides was some difficulty with the level of English with all the staff so we were unsure of communication at times, the pushing of pamphlets at the desk of high end tours and restaurants. I would also have liked seating, maybe cushions and rugs, on the rooftop level as the views are fantastic but no place to sit.

Price was too high compare to room size and facilities. What I booked I did not get the same type room! Some employees was rude and has no manner no warm greeting nothing ! Location was great close to all attractions. Great area for food walking and shopping area . Breakfast was so so ! Their airport service was great , room service was good .

The hotel was in a great location, with parking. The room was really big with lots of space but the downside was the paper thin walls - you could literally hear EVERYTHING that was happening in the rooms around you which unfortunately didnt make for a restful stay.

Ok let’s start with the good. The location was excellent. Right in the middle of everything. The view from our room was gorgeous. The staff was friendly. The not so good-super thin walls. We could hear neighbors pretty much doing anything all night. Enough to keep you up. The facilities are a bit run down so don’t expect plush accommodations.

We had a spa room on the top (6th floor). It had a stunning view of the Marmara Sea and the East city. The lobby is pleasant and comfortable and there are excellent dining options nearby, including Rainbow Fish & Meat, right across the street. A super-convenient walkable option for Old City sights. I would rate this an easy 5 stars except for the breakfast. The breakfast is ok, but could be improved for Western diners. Lot of cold cheese, salads, but sesame bagels disappeared quickly and scrambled eggs weren’t always available without a long wait. This is not a place to have a rental car, but you don’t need one. Staff members were helpful and kind. Very highly recommended.

We stayed at Hotel Sumengen in 1993 and on return to Istanbul in 2026 wanted to go back. We were not disappointed. The staff are incredibly helpful and friendly. The hotel is charming and spotlessly clean. The breakfast has an extensive selection of authentic Turkish foods and the breakfast room has a sea view. The location is still as characterful as we remember it, although there are now more restaurants and small supermarkets. We will stay at Sumengen again next time we visit. Thanks Joe, Can, and the rest of the team!

We loved our time at Sumengen! The staff was wonderful, especially John and Fakir. Very helpful and friendly. Breakfasts were lovely, with lots of choices. And the location was perfect for us. The room was spacious and very comfortable. I highly recommend this small, well-run hotel.

My family and I had a wonderful time at this hotel. It was my daughter's birthday trip.I requested a decoration room and a birthday cake. The staff were extremely helpful! My daughter didn't know the surprise that's why she was so delighted! The decoration was pretty and of course the cake was delicious! The location and breakfast were also nice, we can access the central of the city easily. It takes only 10 minutes on foot. l love the view from the restaurant in the hotel. I appreciate the hotel. I'd like to come back soon! Thank you so much!

Price was too high compare to room size and facilities. What I booked I did not get the same type room! Some employees was rude and has no manner no warm greeting nothing ! Location was great close to all attractions. Great area for food walking and shopping area . Breakfast was so so ! Their airport service was great , room service was good .

We stayed at Hotel Sumengen in 1993 and on return to Istanbul in 2026 wanted to go back. We were not disappointed. The staff are incredibly helpful and friendly. The hotel is charming and spotlessly clean. The breakfast has an extensive selection of authentic Turkish foods and the breakfast room has a sea view. The location is still as characterful as we remember it, although there are now more restaurants and small supermarkets. We will stay at Sumengen again next time we visit. Thanks Joe, Can, and the rest of the team!

We had a spa room on the top (6th floor). It had a stunning view of the Marmara Sea and the East city. The lobby is pleasant and comfortable and there are excellent dining options nearby, including Rainbow Fish & Meat, right across the street. A super-convenient walkable option for Old City sights. I would rate this an easy 5 stars except for the breakfast. The breakfast is ok, but could be improved for Western diners. Lot of cold cheese, salads, but sesame bagels disappeared quickly and scrambled eggs weren’t always available without a long wait. This is not a place to have a rental car, but you don’t need one. Staff members were helpful and kind. Very highly recommended.

Great location for access to the sights. The views from room and dining room were good, could watch the boats and dolphins. Free breakfast was terrific, excellent selection of Turkish breakfast foods. Room was comfortable and clean, but could be noisy in morning as we were directly below the dining room, but it was time to get up anyway. Only downsides was some difficulty with the level of English with all the staff so we were unsure of communication at times, the pushing of pamphlets at the desk of high end tours and restaurants. I would also have liked seating, maybe cushions and rugs, on the rooftop level as the views are fantastic but no place to sit.
