Hilo Hawaiian Hotel, Trademark Collection by Wyndham

Loved its walking proximity to Coconut Island, where you could snorkel, swim, and fish. The harbour room views were unsurpassed including a direct view of Mauna Kea. It had a nice pool, but would’ve loved a hot tub as well. For the price, it was a really nice hotel with many amenities.

Older hotel in a good location with free parking. Staff are super friendly and you can walk to a few beach parks and a park. They appear to be slowly renovating, but definitely needs some tlc. Our toilet sounded possessed, beds were just okay, and the ice machines were broken during our trip. This is our second time at this hotel and we’d probably stay here again.

This is the second time I d stayed this year and there are no working ice machines. There isn’t a restaurant open at lunch either. Those two items aside we had a very nice stay. The employees are all excellent and very friendly.

Has great features and restaurant and views. Please fix treadmills in exercise room. Both been out of service few months. But very friendly, great staff, bellman, front desk & housekeeping. Very convenient and beautiful location looking over Hilo Bay.

They offered reuseable water bottles, which could be filled free of charge at a drinking fountain

The views were amazing but the immediate concrete area by the window is an eyesore. The pool was a bit dirty and opens at 9am even if it says 7am on the website. The fridge wasn't cold. However, we loved how close it was to everything. Front desk says they couldn't send my receipt because I put the room under another person's name (I paid for the hotel). It was weird.

Family friendly property with nice pool that has view of the bay. Large restaurant on lobby floor with nice view. Easy walk to the adjacent park. One thing I found odd was that it was a double bed room but only had one set of towels, I had to request more. Overall nice stay.

Parking was difficult on one of the days

Stayed here as less than 1 hour from seeing Kilauea vocano (amazing). Property needs updating but my room clean. Buffet was good. Stayed on 2nd floor so no elevator and had to walk short stairs but ocean view great. Mini fridge helps. Saw alot of reviews both good and bad and say I had a good experience. Lots of parking on property and staff very freindly. Nearby park where you can jump into ocean from a structure as lots do this. Also near a Japanese garden you can stroll. To management PLEASE clean the Koi pond as green algae/moss must be bad for Koi.

I loved the bar, the played ive music the two nights we were there and was amazing. The waitress (cant remember her name) was really nice with us. Also the food was great in the bar and at the restaurant. The Queen gardens are a couple of minutes walking and the Coconut Island to. Great views

If you like camping you might like this hotel. Although I’d say it was more like a motel. Gross. Roaches. Only stayed one night. Front desk guy was not friendly and acted like I was an idiot for asking questions about the room.. The only thing good about the entire stay was a housekeeping guy who brought us extra bedding for the couch when the front desk man said everything was in the room for the couch. No bedding was in the room. The house keeping guy I think his name started with a G was a delight. The parking garage also looks like it’s going to cave in. The pool looked dirty and not clear. Would never stay here again or recommend it. We kept our luggage zipped up tight because we were terrified of a bug climbing in. Thank goodness we only had to endure this one night.

There’s so much cockroach in our room.

Found hair of a previous guest in our bed, multiple strands. Parking was easy. Staff were fine. If the hotel raised the bar for cleanliness, they would do very well.

It wasn’t terrible but it was unacceptable for the amount of money I spent for only one night. Spent about $275 on hotels app. Not only it was a bit expensive but we didn’t have a microwave in our unit when the app said microwaves. We had leftover party food but never had a microwave so that was unfortunate. Shower’s didn’t have any ventilation for heat to pass through, the bed sheets and pillow casings weren’t washed good. Could smell whoever was on it before and it was very uncomfortable to smell, and also THERE WAS ROACHES ON THE COUNTERTOP NEAR THE BEDS, UNDERNEATH THE TV, AND ALL OVER THE BATHROOM!!!. I literally had to kill it with my bare hands. This was very uncomfortable and unpleasant. I tried to talk to the front desk about it at check out time and they just said “we’ll let maintenance know thank you” like are you for real!?? No compensation, no sorry thoughtful. Made it sound like it’s a common thing but it was very disgusting. AC wasn’t blowing hard enough so the room got hot when it was morning. All in all very uncomfortable stay will not return to that hotel ever again.

Room not ready upon check-in. Lobby lounge reeked of cigarette smoke. Room smelled badly of mildew, bed skirt was filthy and room did not appear well cleaned. Check-in staff also seemed overwhelmed with very few people checking in.

Nice area with things to walk to. Room was not updated with wall paper falling off the walls, dim lighting, and bugs.

Terrible “continental breakfast” serving an unpeeled orange, stale croissant and Luke warm coffee in a plastic to go container. Not even a paper plate to help the environment, let alone a real plate. Carpets are stained, curtains ripped and generally rundown. Too bad because it’s a great location

The room was not clean. Found 2 cockroaches in the room. Looks like room wasn’t properly cleaned.

Pros: The property location and the sea view / walkable to the shore and park / biking station close by. Lot of pastery items for free ar breakfast time / fruits and coffee / juice. Cons: Rooms were out dated, there was mold on the side walls (esp closer to the air conditioner), saw a small rat running through the room below the bed once, there was a water leak from AC over night (was fixed immediately by staff), but the carpet was drenched and smelling all night.,

The hotel was older but appeared to make best with what it had to offer. Dinning choices was limited on property. The vent in the bathroom was extremely dusty. The staff was excellent.

Old AC make units terrible noice throughout night. It doesn’t matter if you turn yours off, you’ll hear those that up/downstairs.

We had an oceanfront room which was spacious and had a nice view, and the hotel is located in a convenient location. However, the AC was very noisy and we couldn't sleep with it on at night. Also the free breakfast was very disappointing with only coffee/tea, banana muffins and oatmeal when I got there at 7:30am. Breakfast was 6:30-10am and I heard there was bagels before 7am! I found it misleading for the hotel to advertise "free continental breakfast" included.

Awesome location, right on the water with a great view of the bay. Walkable to water and some restaurants. Condition generally good, though starting to show its age a bit. We only got one chair on our balcony and didn't get a second even when we requested it our first day. Only got two towels as well, but desk have more when requested.

The view from our room is awesome. The place is old and need renovation and they need to give bigger size of shampoo and lotion.

The view doesn't get any better with the oceanfront rooms. However please note, those rooms are not the ones renovated yet, and are outdated. The ones facing the banyan trees are the ones that have been renovated, as of 02/2025. Service is friendly and fast, the free breakfast is very tiny if you are looking for a good breakfast look elsewhere for that. The area around the hotel is nice with coconut island and the Japanese gardens.

I would not stay here again, despite the beautiful views, convenient location and free parking. The hotel is in desperate need of a makeover. No safes in the room. No bedside lamps.

There are lots of nice beaches within a short distance, including some nice spots within walking distance. I saw some critical reviews about the rooms being dated, and in some aspects they are, but they are clean and well maintained. If you're looking for luxury this is probably not going to be the place, but if you just want a nice clean room in a fantastic location, then I think Hilo Hawaiian is a great value for the money. I enjoyed my stay here and wouldn't hesitate to stay again the next time I am in the area.

This was our first visit to the Big Island, and although we typically stay at Marriott properties, we had no choice but to stay at the Hilo Hawaiian, a Wyndham property. Overall, it was a decent experience, though not quite on par with other hotels I’ve stayed at on other islands. Check-in was smooth, and I appreciated the free upgrade upon request. If you stay here, I highly recommend booking an ocean-view room, it's worth it. The other side of the hotel only offers a view of banyan trees. The hotel itself is dated but still clean and functional. We received two complimentary drink vouchers, which the bartender kindly honored the next day after we forgot to use them on our first night. There’s also a $10 daily breakfast credit at the on-site restaurant. While the food was good, it’s on the pricier side, as expected in Hawaii. One highlight was walking along Banyan Drive at night, hearing the chorus of frogs, very peaceful. However, we did run into a nightly issue: loud music and laughter coming from local kids partying at the Coconut Island parking area below. It took away from the relaxing sound of the waves, so we ended up sleeping with the A/C on for white noise. Hilo itself is calm and low-key, so if you're looking for nightlife, this isn’t the place. I'd also suggest asking the front desk for a microwave, there aren’t many dining options nearby, and the hotel food, while decent, isn’t cheap. So we used Walmart delivery. Overall, I’d give this hotel 4 stars.

It’s too bad other visitors are not considerate of the noise level they create late at night and early morning hours. A reminder by the hotel staff would be greatly appreciated.

It’s at a great location, very nice views of the ocean, and adjacent to nice open parks. However the air conditioning drips water makes the floor bit wet.

It was clean but the worker in the front desk dbl charged me the deposit so I had to call my bank and file a claim etc

When i checked in the girl said your room is right around corner and pointed. When i went right around the corner there was a staircase leading to the 2nd floor. We are in our mid/ late 60s we had 2 bags that weighed close to 50 pounds. We looked around for elevator which was across lobby in opposite direction. Got on elevator but elevators dont go to 2nd floor. I went back to the girl at desk and asked how im supposed to get luggage up the stairs and she said you can carry them. Then she said we have a bell boy that can take them. She made a comment to the other girl that i can walk up stairs. Yes i can walk up stairs but not with 50 pound luggage plus a carry on!!! All she had to say when i was checking in, was room is up the stairs with no elevator access. Will you need help with my bags. Either she was new or having a bad day but she made our arrival very upsetting. Everything else was absolutely wonderful. We had a ocean view room which was amazing.

Staff was very warm and professional. Easy check in and out process.

When I checked in, two employees at the front desk were terrible. They were very rude and even didn't let us know the locations of facilities. But the free parking and location were good!

The service was subpar, and the ladies at the front desk were rude and not helpful. The alarm sounded at around midnight. It turned out to be a false alarm with no other explanation or apologies.

The staff was amazing and helpful! Our room was outstanding with a beautiful view. We were nervous about parking but there was always plenty of parking.

The front desk staff were professional and helpful. As an older property, it's a bit rough around the edges, but that's to be expected. No major gripes, but the cleaning staff didn't service my room when I had the "do not disturb sign" off the door. I would stay again.

The staff at the hotel are its best asset. "Local style" in both behaviors and attitudes was really appreciated! Food and service were excellent. The hotel itself will be undergoing renovation so there were things that needed attention in the room. However, my stay there was very pleasant!

Had a nice 2 nights here in Hilo. A little bit of road noise from cars etc but that is my only complaint. I will definitely come back here again on my next Hilo trip. But will spring for the ocean side of the hotel. The views of Hilo bay are outstanding. And there is a nice walking path along the bay and out to the little island park adjacent to Hilo hotel. Wonderful staff here show lots of aloha!

Good location. Parking lot not easy to get in or out of at busy times. Lobby and pool are nice. Main thing I didn’t like was the A/C above a glass louvered window. If you cover window no a/c. Also street noise although the town shuts down fairly early.

This is a very nice hotel right next to the Coco island and Japanese garden, at a very reasonalbe rate. I could have give 5 stars, but I felt that the women at the front desk could have tried to be more friendly rather than showing just not very heart felt gratitude.

The stay was smooth and enjoyable. Staff friendliness and responsiveness were excellent. A great location to start your adventures on the big island. The immediate neighborhood could use some redevelopment, but I always felt safe, and the atmosphere was pleasant.

Great location to visit Volcanoes National Park and nearby beaches. It's a decent 3-star but could use some updates, more cleaning and maintenance.

The hotel was clean and the people friendly. The continental breakfast offered for two staying in one room was awful. The had mini crossants and doughnut hole or a nut bread that was cut very small with little flavor and an orange or apple. They also had a very gummy oatmeal. I was not impressed. We were given 1 container to share for our food which seemed very odd. The coffee was good.

Loved the continental breakfast included with the room. FYI go early as choices go quickly.

Property abuts beautiful Japanese garden & city park. Sunset was gorgeous. Staff friendly & professional. Would like a small light in bathroom instead of flooding the whole place in light when getting up during the night. BEST SHOWER you could want! Steak restaurant on premises is excellent but a little pricey. Nice people.

The hotel was nice - room was spacious and comfortable. The continental breakfast however was very poor.

The room was clean. Front desk staff was very nice and informative. The staff at the Wsw was very nice and service was excellent. I wish the Sunday brunch buffet started earlier.

The hotel staff was helpful and friendly, but the restaurant staff were not very nice and food service was very poor. The breakfast was a joke where there was no food most of the time. The service at the restaurant took over an hour.

My wife and I stayed at the Castle Hilo for 2 nights in a room facing Coconut Island and Hilo Bay. Our room wasn't ready at check-in time, so we went to their bar for about a half hour until it was ready. The room and view were amazing. We spent time time at the restaurant and bar, both were great with really good food and drink, and excellent service. Their continental breakfast was more than enough food and we got to take it up to our room and sit on the balcony. Parking is free, which is hard to come by at most hotels in Hawai'i. Overall a great experience and I would highly recommend it.

This is an old hotel in good location. There are moulds in the washroom. Poor drainage and bath tub faucet did not work. Only water dispenser at the lobby often ran out of water. Free breakfast is a sham. I waited for 60 min for a few small croissants, no butter or jam. Coffee was delayed forever. Nothing was ever refilled. The view was amazing, the elevators worked, enough parking though. The Kitchen and cafeteria staff very rude and short staffed. For simple service requests it was either turned down or made to wait for a long time. Hilo has shortage of hotels, hence they can continue to operate like this.

I booked an ocean view room, which looked straight out to Hilo Bay. The bathroom was a bit outdated. Free continental breakfast was limited, just croissant, oatmeal, melon/orange and coffee/juice. No egg, ham, or any kind of meat. Parking was easy and free. Hotel location is great. Less than 10mins from airport, downtown, Hilo Farmers market which sells all kinds of tropical fruits and the main reason I came to Hilo for. Despite the disappointed free breakfast, the fantastic ocean view, the big room, and location of hotel closed to everything more than made up for it.

A little dated for the price and I wish there was a spa and that the pool was heated but a good quite hotel even with high school sporting team in the hotel. Restaurant was great. Continental breakfast was a joke Better off going to the store and buying granola bars. Kinda sad that Hilo looks weary and worn out.
