Charles River Inn

For an older hotel, it was nice. The staff was eager to please & it was clean. I was accommodated with the 1st floor (due to mobility issues) because of no elevator. I appreciated that. I didn't care for the noise in the evenings (caused by workers or probably guests). There was also someone smoking or vaping (not cigarettes). It was supposed to be a non-smoking hotel. It wasn't a strong smell so I over-looked it. All this considered, I would recommend this hotel to others. Because of the noise & smoking would rate it a 9 out of 10.

For a night it worked well. No frills but free parking, clean, safe and close to city sights.

The room was somewhat clean. TV remote did not work, no channel guide for TV. There was no coffee maker but did have an ice bucket. Overall bed was comfortable.

I'm rating it "good" as I went in with the expectations that this is "below average good". If you want actual "good", don't stay here. Technically, it has a Boston address... but it's not anywhere you want to be. Well, that's not entirely true... it's bookended by a 24-hours McDonalds and IHOP (which can be pretty convenient). Parking is included (which you won't find in proper Boston hotels) but then you are driving or taking a Uber each way - so that free parking may cancel itself. OK OVERALL: Did I see some questionable characters coming and going? Yes. (Not sure if this hotel offers "by the hour" but you get my drift). Did anyone bother me? No. Was my room clean? Yes, plus some newer hotels don't have fridge and microwave and this room did. Was my room fancy? No. Did the WiFi work? Yes. Did anything keep me up or awake at night? No. Was the staff friendly? They were neither friendly nor unfriendly... they did their jobs well. So if you come with the right expectations, I absolutely recommend.

Ok property for what it was. Lots of things weren’t working in the lobby and breakfast area, but they were being worked on.

Be prepared if you have luggage, no elevator. The bathroom door didn't even close and the sink was severely cracked. The USB charging device did not work. This is a bare bones lodging.

Nice spot for a quick one nighter. Smack in the middle of a ihop and McDonald’s is pretty nice if you wanted something quick and didn’t want to go far. Shower ran all night which wasn’t great but water pressure was nice. Not many amenities, bring what you need for toiletries lol

Very basic ..needs updating..beds are boxes not too comfy...no good coffee in the am.. just a place to sleep if super tired

The room was very clean, the staff were very friendly, and there were plenty of dining options in the area. Will definitely stay there again for work, and I highly recommend this property.

Dirty walls and floors, sheets was ok.

Very shabby. Missing smoke detector. Hair in the tub. Dirty fingerprints on bathroom wall. Room number was a piece of paper taped to the door. View was a storage container. I left at 5:00 AM by choice. Paint job and caulking in the bathroom looked like it was done by a five year old. Tub stained Gross.

floor was dirty, ants crawling around, fitted sheet didn't fit the bed and kept coming off, didn't have enough towels in the bathroom, was told they "sold out" the night before when asked for more, visible layer of dust/dirt on furniture

The room was disgustingly dirty. I was not willing to stay there and I left

It was great for a one night stay. It was close to the venue we were going to. It was not extravagant but it was clean and the beds were comfortable.

The tub, table and phone were covered in hair and dust. The hallway smelled like cigarettes. Even though there was a snow storm and extremely cold out, the heater blew cold air.

Good choice for proximity to fast food (McDonald’s/ihop), very friendly professional front desk staff, very good ac in rooms, quiet location. Sink was cracked and older tv, average rooms overall. Considering the demand for lodging in the area, even slightly lower room prices and some beautifying might be worth it overall. Noticeable effort by front desk staff though.

It was an easy, friendly, and reasonably priced for our needs and I would return to this location the next time I am in the area. The room was set up nicely, clean, and spacious.

Upon check in, at 3am, the staff said a room number out loud. I did not think about it at the time due to being exhusuted from a long travel day, however, as a single young woman traveling clearly alone, that was scary to think someone could have heard my room number. At 5 am, I was woken up by someone trying to open my door, and when I went to check the peep hole, the peep hole did not operate as it should. I have no visibility. When I checked it before checking out in the morning, nothing was blocking it and was just not a funtioning one. The rooms were large but it's clear the shower and tubs were not well cleaned over the years. I would not stay here again.

Overall, the Charles River Motel served its purpose. While the building and the room felt a bit dated, it was clean and the bed was comfortable. It’s conveniently located with easy access to Brighton, Cambridge and Watertown. For the price and a place to lay our heads, it worked out very well.

Knowing we wouldn’t be spending that much time in the room we took the gamble. As our kids called it, mom and dad’s skanky hotel. It felt tired and unfriendly. We felt unwelcome as we entered and exited. Wouldn’t stay again!

Check in took forever. Place was bare bones. They advirtised a breakfast. There was zero breakfast. Not even coffee.

There was no power in the room when we checked in and the hotel owner/manager was not even willing to help out. We couldn’t go anywhere else as it was pretty late so we had to stay there anyway and manages with flashlight from the phone. We have asked for a refund and awaiting it. Horrible experience and customer service.
