What guests think
Across recent reviews, Holiday Inn Express & Suites Ruston by IHG earns frequent praise for friendly staff, generally comfortable, spacious rooms, and a convenient location near the highway and restaurants.
Cleanliness feedback is mixed: several guests noted musty or moldy odors and dirty bathrooms or floors, while many others described very clean rooms and common areas. Breakfast ranges from hot and satisfying to understocked or poorly attended, with some reports of items running out and messy dining areas. Ongoing construction, occasional leaks, and maintenance disruptions were also reported, so stays can vary, but many travelers still have a comfortable, friendly visit.

Hotel located along the free way. It's quite conveniently located. You can find few food options within a few minutes drive from the hotel. The pool was closed (probably its outdoor pool during winter). Room we got very spacious. Minor issue with water faucet (which was off and have to smartly adjust to get the warm or hot water - cause its winter cold where the cold water was too cold to use). Another minor issue, would be great if the shampoo level (its wall mounted pump shampoo & soap) was checked before guest arrive. The room a little bit dusty, but we managed to borrow vacuum cleaner to vacuum the room carpet cause we have allergic child travelling with us. Breakfast option was average, and not many available (probably because there weren't many guests on that day staying). While the bacon quickly run out, we asked for the attending staff and she made us some sausages - thank you. Parking is easy to find in front of the hotel.

Appears to have construction/remodeling going on. Had to wait awhile for front desk staff - she appeared to be on her own for front desk and cleaning/stocking duties. Breakfast was a huge disappointment

The washing machine was broken and our toilet didn't work properly. You would think that you would just rent a washing machine machine until your original one was fixed. I checked out a day early and my room was still out reservation and I was charged for it not sure why they just didn't cancel the last day because I was not there. And formally checked out up front.

Very disappointed in the breakfast Saturday morning. Went down stairs around 8:30ish, breakfast was over at 9:30. The place was filthy. No clean tables, pancake machine was out of service, no gravy...rang bell to ask worker about food option available and she was very rude. Stated pancake machine was broke. That she was making more gravy, which took about 30 minutes to bring more out, biscuits were burned. I could go on and on, just very displeased that we paid $652 for a 2 night stay and had to go somewhere else both morning for breakfast. Only 1 elevator was working for a busy weekend at capacity.

Our shower in the room was not that clean and it was kind of dusty in the room as well I have allergies so I was a little irritated. Breakfast was okay but with us having to pay $211 for 1 night there should of been better seletions than what was served. Other than that staff was friendly and professional and did respond well to all my questions and concerns.

When we arrived in the room, we discovered that the tub had standing water in it with hair. The tub had black mold growing around the caulked edge. The toilet was dirty and had not been cleaned thoroughly. We requested a non smoking room but the floor we stayed on reeked of cigarettes. The temperature in the room was set very low and it took more than an hour to regulate the temperature to a comfortable level

The only reason this hotel is getting 3 stars is because of the friendly staff, otherwise it would be 2 stars. I knew upon arrival we were walking in to a dirty situation when the trash outside was overflowing and the parking lot was virtually empty. The lobby floors were dirty as well, but it has been raining earlier so I tried not to be quick to judge. However the elevator floors were dirty with trash, not wet shoes. The room situation was similar. Although I loved the fact that the room had 2 king sized bed, the room was musty smelling. The bathroom floor has visible dirt on the floor. The carpet was not better. It has not been vacuumed as there was chunks dirt on the floor as well. The carpet and the bed rails were stained. The towels were old and stiff, no flour left to those things. We actually decided to wear our shoes around the room which we never do, but there was nothing to hurt. The room stayed damp the entire night. When leaving in the morning, elevator & lobby floors were still dirty and trash still overflowing outside. Pretty disappointing all around. Especially for the price, this should be max of $89 per night given the condition.

I will never in life stay at this property again! Bathrooms were filthy and you smell the mold and mildew in the air. Even after changing rooms, bathrooms were still filthy. Housekeeping banged on our door thinking we were checked out. Isn’t there a list that tells them that.

Staff was very friendly. Least expensive Holiday Inn Express I've ever stayed in which is a plus. Breakfast was good. Rooms were modern with plenty of USB outlets. First room had an issue with the air condition which caused us to have to move rooms in the middle of the night. The rooms had a slight smell probably due to the AC issues. The room across from us had A/C issues as well and the hall had a smell. Maybe just struggling with the Louisiana summertime heat? The bathroom door wouldn't close in the room we ended up moving into which was a little annoying but otherwise the room was okay.

We were pleased with the cleanliness of the room, beds were comfortable and King size, excellent for us. The breakfast was sub par, they were out of several foods, we were told because they were busy the day before and ran out of food. What they served was not good. Very few options. I am glad it wasn’t a big deal for us because we are not breakfast people, but there was no coffee creamer, we didn’t like that.

The front desk staff and overall hotel was great. However, the room smelled really musty and moldy, as a result, all of my clothes in my luggage smelled the same. The breakfast pantry, said they closed at 9:30am, but the attendant stopped preparing food before 9am, which left myself and others not able to enjoy the free breakfast. There was a college soccer team staying there and she simply said, "Im done cooking for the day and nothi g else is being added." And it was only 9:05am with them and other wanting breakfast. Other than that, the room was clean and the lady at tue front desk was very nice.

We stayed last week on our way to Texas and decided to spend last night on our way back home because the beds are comfortable and the rooms are spacious. Because we would stay there again, but I did find a dirty K cup and the coffee maker this morning, and there was a bag of muffins someone had left in the windowsill that the housekeeper missed. If something that obvious is missed, it makes me wonder what less obvious things were also skipped. Stacy at the front desk was very friendly. Why?

The hotel upon entrance smelled great. Hallways with machines running smelled great. My room however smelled strongly of mildew. I asked the front desk and they said they could spray my room. He was ready with a response so it must be known problem. It made zero difference. Had it not been so late, I would’ve gone elsewhere!

They’re pro BS regarding housekeeping. I asked 3 time to have my room cleaned without any success. I really don’t recommend that place. Location is nice the issue is the service personnel. When they finally did my room few day before I leave they left me only hand Towel to dry myself after a shower… see picture.

This property screwed me out of $255 bc of their manager mistake!!! The hotel called me to confirm a reservation and I told them the dates I wanted to make sure they had them dates and he said yes so he put me down for the wrong dates and I lost my money. Worst customer service ever!!! Expedia service was just terrible also!! Worst experience ever from the hotel and booking website!!!

Great location and easy access from highway. Hotel is very new and nice. Only drawback is the noises from the thin materials used.

Clean, convenient, comfortable and I’m always a sucker for a shower with great water pressure. This was just an overnight pit stop during a longer road trip, but it’s a place you’ll feel safe with your family

The stay was amazing. The front desk staff is so professional and courteous. They really made us feel welcome. The breakfast was far better than expected. The rooms were clean, spacious, & very comfortable. We will definitely be staying here whenever in the area.
