Don't usually leave reviews however I will for this one as it's bad. Have stayed in many Holiday Inn's in Aus and NZ over the years and been very happy with the value offered - these all being practically identical to one another in rooms, breakfast and amenities. We assumed the same for Holiday Inn Express New York Manhattan West Side, however it's definitely not the same standard. Rooms are TINY and very dated. Doors slam. No soundproofing - can hear everyone in the hallway and sirens outside all night. Breakfast selection offered is limited and the eating area is way too small for the amount of people - couldn't get a seat half of the time. Not enough elevators - many times couldn't fit in and had to call another hoping no one else was in it. Slow check in. Fitness centre is just a few aerobic machines in a little room. Asked reception to book us a cab/taxi van for our trip leaving to the airport - the same type that we used coming from the airport at a $70 fixed fare - however they booked a private driver service at double the cost instead. When it turned up and I questioned them why, they said "Going to airport is different price than coming from it". I have learned this is a outright lie and cabs are also $70 fixed to the airport either direction, so I assume they are get a kick back from this private service. Only positive is location is good.

Staff was generally unhelpful and not really respectful. Our room was not clean had to give it a good wipe down with my own antibacterial wipes — dried up spots on the head board and dressers. Last time.

Great hotel. It’s a bit outside of the hustle and bustle but if you don’t mind that, it’s great. Have food places and even laundromat nearby. The staff was the best. All helpful and kind. I wish we stayed here our entire time in nyc. Staying at the time square area is a mistake.

To be honest, this has been a pretty miserable stay. -the outside scaffolding made finding the building difficult -check in was the worst experience I’ve had checking into a hotel. There was a line we had to wait in with one person handling all front desk needs while another walked around and did anything else than jump in and help out. - despite arriving 45min after check in, the front desk needed to confirm if our room was ready via texting on what looked like WhatsApp while we stood and waited for a response for like 5 minutes (line growing bigger behind us). We were informed linen delivery was late which caused a delay. Why weren’t we notified that there may be a delay at check in preemptively? -Once in our room, the quality was pretty basic which is fine but the large stains on the pullout couch were rather off putting. - we asked for sheets for the pullout for our daughter and were given a blanket. No sheets. No pillow. - the door to our bathroom constantly swings to close and won’t stay open, which is very inconvenient in such a minuscule room. -worst of all, the headboard of our bed , we discovered, shares a wall with the elevators, which rattle loudly all night as if a train is passing. -also, those elevators are incredibly slow to the point where there are often lines of people waiting to get on

The property is older, small, the elevators are slow. we were put in a room right by the elevator which was extremely loud - you could hear the mechanics like you were riding in an old roller coaster…it was loud through the night. I’m surprised we were able to sleep. The neighborhood is not great - there were non- hotel guests congregating at the front smoking strong substances. The staff were friendly and accommodating but I wouldn’t return.
