The Washington Hotel NYC

The checkin process was quick but not hospitable. The attendant was pushy and did not have a warm personality. The facilities were nice but not well maintained. My door got stuck allot, the gym did not have water or wipes, the elevator was broken. The room was ok but very bare bone, there was no water, the carpet could have used a vacuum. The view was great and the bed was very comfortable.

This is a beautiful property in a great location, close to so many train and subway lines. Most rooms have an amazing view out over the WTC Plaza. Be aware that this hotel no longer offers any food or beverage service, but there are in-room refrigerators. Access to rooms requires taking two different elevators, and during our stay only one of the three elevators in the guest room tower (24 floors) was functional.

Everything said about this place lately is pretty much spot on. The proprietors seem to have abandoned upkeep on this property years ago. It’s all worn down, broken down, neglected, missing conveniences, etc. Only one elevator bank is functioning at any given time, and even this has a “high-tech” piece of paper with a giant X scribbled in pen across it taped up to indicate which set of buttons you shouldn’t use? At least 50% of the machines in the fitness room have signs saying they’re non-functioning and don’t expect towels or a water cooler. No coffee machine or microwave in the room, pretty surprised there was even a fridge. Had to call down for paper cups for the room and an ice bucket (of course the ice machine on the floor wasn’t working). It’s a shame because this really could be a decent property with just the slightest effort made in maintenance and investment. The desk staff was hit or miss, either very helpful or totally oblivious if you ask for something. Housekeeping staff were very nice and efficient. But tried to get hypo-allergenic bedding … nope.

There was only one elevator working all weekend. With 30 plus floors, that was unacceptable. They also advertise a rooftop patio, but it is private. My family and I went up there to get pictures of the views and the staff threatened us saying we were trespassing. The bathroom ceiling was also peeling, but the room was clean. No parking and the parking around the hotel is EXPENSIVE! We probably will be the extra next time for better experience.

Comfortable room. Only one out of three elevators were working

This is an incredibly poor experience for a very high price. Broken everything - elevators, room fixtures, gym equipment - and no amenities outside your room. First night, one elevator was working - and only half the buttons. By the last night I was waiting 10 minutes to get in the service elevator.

As long as you go into this hotel realizing it's a value hotel, it's a good recommendation. The location is amazing, the people are nice, and generally everything worked (good water pressure, great AC unit), but it is very run down. It's a shame, because you can tell it was built as a very nice hotel, but it has not been well maintained. The photos look nice, but in reality, everything is worn down and tired. The biggest issue was only having one of the elevators was working, which created a bottle neck getting to the rooms.

Didn’t like the mood llighting. Found it very disorientating. No coffee in room. No restaurant in bldg.

Location was good, facilities of the hotel were not good - lifts were not working so had to use the goods lift and there were also times where that goods lift which was shared by all the other floors causing delays. Goods lift was also broken at one stage so had to take the stairs. Beds are also very uncomfortable (too soft causing back pains)

It was a pretty good Hotel overall. Needed some work here and there. They have a bar, but is empty they need to open the bar at the 5th floor so guest can enjoy a drink or two. The hallways smelled like someone was always smoking. The hotel is located in a beautiful location, but does need better customer service.

Room was uncomfortably dirty. Shower drain was clogged, walls were dirty, bathroom with mold in grout, toilet stained.

Hotel was ok. Blood on the elevator walls when we arrived . Was still there at check out the next day . no hand soap in the hotel room . No hand towel in the hotel room. Bed was comfortable . They should def up there cleaning routine .

It was great, the view was spectacular. One WTC and the 9/11 memorial was right outside our window, it was superb! The bed and pillows were very comfy. There were a lot of storage space and an iron for ironing, no ironing board though. There was a fridge but no microwave or kettle or complimentary teas/coffees etc. The bathroom had a shower and was clean but had mouldy spots in the top corner near the ceiling.

There is a reason this has a giant C rating from the city on the doors. As bare bones as it gets - no coffee in the room, no lounge/bar downstairs to get coffee Elevators don’t even close all the way Room feels like it’s a day away from being rehabbed, mildew smell, rotten ceiling AND spider webs in the shower and marks and stains all over the walls…even the duvet was stained

No towel, elevator doesn't work. Room was not as it was described or displayed.

Bed bugs. Video evidence. Working to get a refund as we did not stay there once we saw the bed bugs.

This hotel and room met our needs perfectly well and, in some regards, far surpassed it. The hotel borders the southern edge of the 9/11 Memorial. The wide view from our room, facing north on the 19th floor, was spectacular. The fountain pool and Freedom Tower and the Occulous and the NY skyline beyond looked like a wall-sized piece of art. Gorgeous. Everything in the room worked and was good: comfortable bed, good shower, working television, easy temperature control. Lots of light. Given the price and locale, I would stay here again. Like others, my only criticism would be its general upkeep. Shower could you use a deeper cleaning. Our toilet seat could use replacing and, frankly, all the public spaces could use brightening because while the rooms are bright and normal, the rest of the place is nightclub dark. There’s a lot of black everywhere, from what i assume are the glassy black marble floors to the dark lobby walls and dark halls to blackish elevators.The designer was probably going for hip, but it comes off as just dark and kind of disorienting, seriously, like you’ve left NYC outside and are now entering this dark mysterious tower. The front desk staff (on the 5th floor, BTW, no ground floor lobby) seem to take on that same NY club aloofness - not unfriendly, as others have written, but just distant, radiating an air that you’re lucky to be here at the exclusive Washington and won’t think twice once you’re gone. But, hey, welcome to NY!

This was by far the worst hotel experience I’ve ever had. Everything in the room was either broken, dirty, or clearly used — from stained sheets to chipped furniture. The bathroom floor was absolutely disgusting, like it hadn’t been cleaned in weeks. Even worse, the front desk staff looked completely unprofessional, wearing graphic t-shirts instead of uniforms. There was no sense of hospitality or basic cleanliness. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone. Save yourself the trouble and stay elsewhere.

Dirty showers, ripped duvet cover and awful service. Will NOT be staying here again.

Excellent location for easy financial district access. Large spacious room with comfortable bed and very nice bathroom. Very quiet room perfect for a good nights sleep.

It's a decent hotel, but definitely shows its wear in the little things - scrapes on the walls, scuffed doorframes, etc. There was a noticeable smell on my first night (maybe some type of cleaning agent that they had used?), but not as evident on subsequent nights.

Like the location and view. Bed was comfortable, furnishings interesting designs. Didn't like toilet paper, very cheap, rough. Didn't like bathroom lighting.

Nice property, it is really well located, very nice view and nice room, sadly there was no wifi for a whole day, I had to work that day and was unable to do so

Close to several attractions, and close to subway. Mostly quite hotel, The room didn't have ice bucket or coffee pots but did have small fridge and a safe. The vending machine Ave C didn't work for the whole week we were there and was empty. It would have been nice to grab a drink on the way to your room instead of having to run down the street. Employees were nice. Elevators did take forever but tolerable. Hated the frosted glass wall in the shower dividing the bathroom and beds but most people probably don't care especially if a couple, just a little awkward for my sister and I. Entrance was dark and you have to go to 5th floor to check in and get to a 2nd set of Elevators to go up to your room. I'd recommend and stay again

Excellent location and staff. Facilities were in theory good, however only 1 elevator (of 5 in total) was functional (the service elevator), the mini-fridge in a deluxe king room was broken, as was the closet door. Furthermore, the light in the bathroom flickered and made audible noise. Did not check on the restaurant other facilities, so not able to comment on those.

Location is great, but the hotel itself was flattered by the photos it's using! Rooms are worn and public areas not particularly tidy or in great repair. However, beds clean and very comfortable, great view.

I've been a repeat guest at this hotel, drawn back by the positive experiences during my previous stays. However, my recent encounter with the front desk left me dissatisfied. The service on my last day was subpar, and it's disheartening that this was my final impression. I hope the management addresses these issues for the benefit of future guests.

Checked in, no towels or kleenex. Took 2 calls to get towels. Never got kleenex. TP and towel racks loose on wall. Broken light in bathroom not fixed despite request. Desk in room greasy with spots of something sticky. No cups or glasses of any kind (even disposable) in room. 2 of 3 elevators broken, so super long waits to get up or down. Ice machine broken. Was told to try other floors (but that takes forever w/broken elevators!) Rude, unhelpful staff.

They got me checked in fast! Held onto my lugagge pre check in. They were awesome

The bell desk team member was especially nice and very helpful. He helped us with transportation planning and made sure we had all things taken care of when we left. Great guy.

I was very disappointed that it took me over an hour to get towels for my room. I arrived after 10pm and found no towels in my room and the front desk didn’t answer the phone. After multiple attempts I had to go down and check on them twice. It took over an hour to get them delivered. They also didn’t have any drinking water at this hotel and advised that I used the drinking fountain. The staff was not friendly at all nor apologized for not answering the phone, not having towels, or for the delay. They acted as if I was being a massive inconvenience. It was frustrating and I will not be staying at this property in the future.

When I checked in and went through the room, seems like someone was already “living” in that room. But the key that I got from the front was working for that room. I got confused and went down to ask about it but they said that they had given me the correct room (they thought that just the cleaning man didn’t clean) and they asked to cleaning man to go to the room with me again for checking. When the cleaning man was going together and seeing the room, he said someone is already using that room definitely. We went to the front again, and when they checked on the monitor or something like 2 minutes and they said “Oh someone is already using that room, sorry” It was my first experience that I got the wrong room which is someone already booked. After that, I got another room, but I still had some worries because if they give our room’s key to other customers, that means strangers can come into our room even if it is an accident. It was just two days trip, so I just stayed at this hotel, but I am not sure this hotel is good to stay.

Overall I had a great experience, the staff was very friendly and accommodating.

When we first checked in, the receptionist already gave us an attitude as if we were bothering him when I asked him a question. We wanted to take a picture of surrounding then chased us stating the balcony was closed because we went outside. We arrived at 1:00pm and asked if we can check in early. He did not even check and just stated that there is a $50 charge for early check in. When checking out, the front desk people were all busy texting and when I asked if I can leave my luggages, she just points and states "you leave it down stairs". No thank you's for staying with them or have a nice day. Then, when we were leaving the luggages downstairs, the guy made it clear that there is a $2.00 charge per bag. Disappointing stay! But not going to let them ruin my trip to NYC!

When I reserved the room on hotels.com it said checkout at noon. So I purposely booked a hotel a late checkout. When I got to the room the screen on the the said noon checkout. However the paper that was given to me at check in stated 11 am checkout. When asked I was told to call the night before to request a late checkout and it will not be a problem. When I called I was told the policy changed in Jan 2024. And told to call the front desk at 6:30 am! My husband and I were getting ready to leave at 11:45 and the manager came to our door and was very rude and stated we need to be out by noon. Horrible customer service. The correct checkout time should have been listed on hotels.com or honored since it was not updated accordingly. I would stay at this hotel again but not this specific location. Management needs to taught to be professional and accommodating.

We arrived after 2pm. The lady at the front desk tells me im early. For $50 I can take a room now or wait for 45 minutes to be checked in on time. What????? Entire lobby was filled with people waiting and not paying this junk fee. We came back after 3pm and finally got our key… 2 of the 3 elevators are broken, and it takes an extended period to get up stairs and downstairs so now we were late. Did anybody warn us about this at arrival? Of course not. The whole thing was weird and the experience at the front desk was very unpleasant.

Dark and mysterious coming in the lobby but bright once you hit concierge. Very convenient location overlooking the trade center

Great location! Behind the WTC amazing view! Super close to the Oculus and subway. Very safe and convenient. I would say that the back ambiance is very elegant. Relatively clean, I think they could do better but it didn’t bother me since I only used it to sleep. Would definitely recommend and yes I would go back!

We loved the area! It was nice and not too busy. There were many options to shop, eat, and go out for coffee. It is so close to so many subway stops so it’s very convenient to get anywhere!

So convenient place to go around 911 museum, statute of library, wall street etc. Excellent location!

While the hotel was nice is lack cleaness on the hotel patio. No room service or restaurant. But it was nice and has potential.

Similar to other reviewers, we stayed this weekend and it was a strange experience. The property obviously used to be a nice place, the room was fine with a great view. When we checked in, it was a guy in a t-shirt and jeans who handed us a piece of paper basically saying there are no amenities, food or service. We thought it was still a Marriott and he said “ugh, I wish!” When we checked out, we asked if we could store our bags and they said it was a bag fee or $50 for a late checkout. As the charming woman crooned the hits and she echoed through the completely empty fifth floor, we decided to just take them with us. If you want a high end hostel, this is the place for you. There’s lots of construction and some low key places to eat nearby, but we just ended up going to Tribeca and on north to do anything. The walks along the west side were nice, but you feel far away from the better neighborhoods. Easy walk to the World Trade Center area for those visiting the memorials.

I arrived in NY earlier than expected and they were able to accommodate me with my room. Friendly staff. Breakfast option wasn't all that great. Take the extra 5 minute walk and head to Georges' Diner for a full breakfast.

The hotel is falling apart. Only one lift working on ground and from level 5. I would have asked for a refund. Says bar on your website which is false advertising, your bars not open. Walls are pealing, mould in bathrooms, no water on arrival, no coffee facility or microwave. Reception staff are always on their phones and not engaging. If I could give a minus I would. Would never recommend and contemplating contacting the health department for the mould. Do better or don’t be in the hotel business.

This hotel needs a facelift. Ratty towels and don't expect more than one!, crazy lighting, no bar, no patio, no clock in the room, lumpy pillows and the AC didn't work, room was a sauna.
