What guests think

Across many reviews of Drury Inn & Suites Charlotte University Place, guests highlight genuinely friendly service, the generous free breakfast and evening kickback with drinks, and a convenient location near PNC Pavilion, UNC Charlotte, restaurants, and I‑85.

Many enjoyed the indoor/outdoor pool and hot tub, though renovations, closures, cold water, and limited hours were noted at times. Rooms are typically comfortable, yet decor can feel dated, some units lack a fridge or microwave, and noise from the atrium, pool area, or elevator bothered a few stays. Cleanliness is often praised but inconsistent, with occasional housekeeping misses and a few reports of musty or smoky rooms and parking‑lot concerns. Overall, expect a friendly, good‑value stay in a practical location.

I expected it to just be another hotel stay, but it was immediately different when they gave me two free drink tickets upon arrival. When I came to cash in my tickets at the appropriate time, I was taken back by the "snacks" that were available. Coupled with the elaborate breakfast options, it was a very generous and unexpected addition. Indoor/outdoor pool was very nice. Hot tub was also. Plenty of nice chairs and tables surrounded the pool area. List of towels were on hand. For the price, I feel like they are going above and beyond compared to their competition.

The indoor pool was freezing cold. The weekend pool hours close too early. People have things to do & can’t get back at 10pm to make it to the pool. The cost is too high for the room not to be spotless. The floor was dirty & there were handprints all over the furniture which means it hadn’t been thoroughly cleaned. Do better, housekeeping.

Disappointed pool didn’t open until a hour before checkout and the later times for weekend breakfast. The hotel itself was nice and clean. Staff was friendly and the manager greeted everyone in the sitting areas. Very convenient location.

It was an easy process to check in and check out. The manager Dee was very polite and courteous. My room was clean and welcoming. The only downside I occurred during my stay was only one elevator was working at the time. Other than that, I would recommend and stay here again.

Renovation in progress. Should it even be open during this phase of the reno? I was given earplugs at check in. Pool is closed. There is debris everywhere. Workers are working daily on the project, and staff is super nice and friendly. But really, it was inconvenient and not a comfortable experience. There is another Drury nearby if available, I recommend that stay until this renovation project is closer to completed.

The first room 520 I was given had the following issues: carpet had not been vacuumed and trash in the floor, tv stand had stinky stuff smeared all over the top as well as the tv screen in the living room, end tables in the living were dirty with food spills, bed headboard had been smeared with thick sticky stuff I shudder to think what it was, bedroom tv had sticky stuff smeared all over the screen. The bathroom mirror and closet door mirror had had smears of stuff on them as well. I’ve stayed at Drury Inns all over the US and they have been extremely clean. I was so disappointed with this one and did not feel comfortable that the sheets were even changed. I requested the front desk person Dee come to my room and view the filth and said it was unacceptable by Drury standards. She moved me to another room 415 which was more clean than the first but the mirrors were smudged and the headboard had hand prints on it. Even the elevator doors and buttons were filthy. The positive was Dee and the Kick back staff were very friendly and accommodating. I took a few pictures in order to attempt to show the filth and lighting was not the best.

The bathroom floor was pretty dirty as if it had not been swept. One of the headboards had a questionable white stain that came off when scrubbed so they didn't scrub it down beforehand. The checkin staff was perfectly wonderful with smiling faces and friendly attitudes.

I truly enjoyed my 4 night stay at the Drury in Charlotte, NC. The staff were all very friendly and helpful, my room was clean and comfortable, my room was serviced each day & bed was made, the morning and evening foods were great, and it was nice to be able to get coffee or soda at any time! I look forward to staying at a Drury again in the future.

Everything was amazing except… we couldn’t get any sleep. We were right next to the elevator and heard people getting on and off and screaming all night both nights of our stay. Just wish we were not by the elevator. There were also creepy men hanging out a long time in the lobby.

For a mid tier hotel, Drury's are definitely a great option. We are on a road trip and had to check an extremely late (1am), and the night desk clerk--Netta-- was welcoming, helpful and kind. The room was clean and comfortable. The bed was pretty good. Firm, supportive but with enough of a cushy top that it was comfortable. (Although my hubby thought it was a little hard... But I'm usually the picky one regarding beds so if I was comfortable I would say this is a pretty good band) But, T the one down side is: I would say that the mattress offers no motion control. So every time somebody turns over, the whole bed shakes/feels like a trampoline. Otherwise the hotel is clean and the service staff is awesome. Great full breakfast, with a staff of four people making sure everything is hot ready to go.... and their indoor pool and gym looks fresh and clean! Feels just a little dated, decor wise... but definitely not run down. If they upgraded their mattresses to more of the memory foam/motion control type---I'd say the stay was perfect!

The room and hotel were clean and beautifully done. The one very big downfall to the room and our stay was the fact that we had an adjoining room. We could literally hear every word the guy next door said and every time he used the restroom. The door provided very little by way of a sound barrier. Had the hotel not been fully booked we would've wanted a different room. I feel we need to give this hotel location another try in the near future before never staying again. Breakfast was nice and accommodations were great. Overall we'd recommend this hotel.

Amazing stay during the middle of the week. Room was spacious and clean. Loved the extra thermostat functioning AC unit. Chandelier in lobby was breathtaking each time we rode down the elevator. Late night lobby worker was able to reconnect our key card after accidently being put with a phone, she was super friendly and made us laugh. Just wish the pool opened before 10am! Checkout is 11, not really enough time to get to use it before leaving. We enjoyed our stay and plan on making this our go to hotel when we are in the Charlotte, NC area.

From the time that we arrived the staff was super friendly! Very inviting and warming. They made us very comfortable! The room was immaculate, and smelled so good. It was an ice machine on the floor. A guest laundry room. Nobody from the streets loitering in front of the hotel at all. Just a very comforting, friendly, and peaceful atmosphere there. My only cons was no microwave or mini fridge in the room so we couldn’t heat up food or keep food cold. But the overall stay I give them a 5 out of 5 on here, and a 10 out of 10 for Google reviews. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND! I will definitely stay again if I’m ever in Charlotte again. Oh yeah this hotel is close to everything. ChicFila, Crafty Crab, Juicy Crab, 2 buffets, Golden Corral, Walmart, and so much more. You won’t be disappointed! I can go on and on, but I’ll stop here! Book with DRURY you guys!

Property was okay, but very dated outside of the lobby area. Carpets were a little musty. AC didn't work great in our room. The staff were great, and did address the AC issue for us with a partial refund. Bottom line, it will do in a pinch, but there are much nicer properties for around the same price in the same general area.

Dee was so helpful when we arrived at 11pm. The room # was transposed leading us to an occupied room (no access, key wouldn't work). Dee effortlessly made it right with ease and calmness. Offering us additional welcome pack which was a nice touch after a long drive coming from ATL. The property itself is conveniently located and you can't beat the breakfasts buffet and 5:30pm kickback. Drury Inn has a new customer and I'll stay here anytime I'm in Charlotte! Highly recommend!

Dee at the front desk was fabulous. She made a point to call each guest by name, always professional, friendly and helpful. Each staff member that I saw was always smiling, no grumpy speech or looks and I believe this speaks as to how they are treated as well. Common areas wiped down frequently, multiple areas to sit either alone or gather with others in a comfortable setting. Small meal at dinner (supper) time provided as well as popcorn and drinks in the evening plus a full breakfast each morning and it’s all included in your room price. Enjoyable stay.
