The elevators were slow and or not working Had to use stairs which was ok but there was no one at front desk throughout Just ok ok place Go here if you want the basics with no expectations Outside the lot was slippery after snow & no maintenance

Elevators were out! No discount given for the inconvenience. Front desk lady didn't seem to know what she was doing. Bar and restaurant were closed. Only good thing was it was close to were we needed to go.

Room was poorly taken care of. Burnt out light bulbs, disgusting carpet, peeling paint. The bathroom shower allowed water to get outside of shower requiring extra towels for the floor. Restaurant attached permanently closed. Hallways to rooms are low ceiling and dark.

The door by the parking lot was blocked off due to some snow. It was below zero but everyone had to walk around to get in. No shuttle to the civic center. No free continental breakfast.

Very historic hotel w/a good price for a nights stay. Needs some up keep & TLC. The room was very clean, but the outside had me questioning 'boutique hotel'. The neon Mark Twain Hotel sign at the top of the building was half burned out. The parking lot entrance, your hotel key card is needed to get in. If you haven't checked-in, you don't have the card yet. The registrar was very accommodating & came to let me in. She said the main entrance was s-where around the corner? Need signage, lighting, or s-thing to direct guest to that entrance. Thorough cleaning of stairway, woodwork, etc in all common areas. This hotel should be shining like diamond!!

they did not have a record of my confirmed reservation. they were extremely unhelpful. hotel restaurant/bar are permanently closed. no elevator service. Hotel is in disarray. we left and found other acomodations.

No place to eat (big restaurant area closed and unused). Property is dark and run down. Only one working elevator. Entrance from parking lot inaccessible. Lighting in rooms poor.

Hotel was run down and not maintained well. TV didn't work. Shades didn't close. Elevator broke for a day. Everything was a little dingy. It wasn't sketchy, it just needs some love.

Back door right by handicapped parking is locked, no longer used. Had to walk around the building. First room, non functioning tv. Moved to 2nd room, which had no tv remote. Was moved to 3rd room, which had non functioning tv AND broken A/C & heating unit. Sign read "Heat don't work." At that point, I asked for a refund, was refused, and left.

Certainly didnt ruin the trip, but in the spirit of honesty the elevators were down when we stayed.

Carpet not vacuumed around the edges found a cockroach crawling around in bathroom the next morning. We were worried about our luggage and bringing one home Outside is run down and gives the feeling of the hotel being vacant Bed was comfortable and the bedding was clean We stayed on the second floor which was supposed be one of the updated floors. Overall the room was shabby and was badly in need of some tlc

Greeting by desk person awful!! Our room hadn’t been cleaned! So gross!! No coffee! Loud loud air conditioner!

Upon arrival, the homeless tents next door was the first sign of how our trip would go. Walked in, checked in, the lady at the counter was nice, however she informed us that the elevator was down and she didn’t know when it would be working. We at that point had to go up to the 5th floor in which was crowded due to all the guest. It also had an unpleasant smell. When we got to the room, the temperature had to be at 80 plus degrees. And did not smell good. The carpet was extremely stained and were uncomfortable even taking our shoes off. We went to the concert, and when we came back around 11:30 pm, decided to leave and not stay. Would not be going back to this hotel.

Our room wasn’t cleaned… the lady at the front desk was super sweet and got us into a different room. The room itself was kind of grossed (musty green carpets with years of stains). The entire facility was worn down, broken and looks like it’s on its last legs.

Left for 4 hours and came back to someone having entered the room & left without shutting the door, luckily nothing was missing. Had no shampoo available in the bathroom. The coffee pot was dirty, the lids were the wrong size for the cups.

Floors were dirty, shower/bathroom was unkept and popcorn ceiling was peeling. Bed sheets were dirty and we had no cover for the bed itself. We were lucky there was no bedbugs…this time. Staff was nice overall.

Where do I begin? Probably the broken elevator with no sign of potential repair and my 4th floor stay… The carpet in my room was full of stains - just gives the room an unclean look already. The room itself had a bad odor to it. The shower was completely out of body wash with horrible water pressure. The toilet hardly flushed. Bad phone signal. Just an overall bad stay. You can stay at the other 2 hotels in the area for the same price with a way more comfortable stay. I will not be returning.

Room was dirty carpet look so gross and stained up for a famous name sure was a let down. Sink didn't work cold shower sheets had hair on them and could tell they had not been changed. Phone didn't work I had to use my cell to call down a few times front desk was rude and just just to me but to several other people I watched with my own eyes. I feel like for a famous name it should definitely be better I won't stay there again nor recommend this place

It was located conveniently and a standard hotel room. Only down side was that the AC in our room didn’t work

Luck of the draw. Stayed two separate nights and one night had an updated clean room and the other, a out of date room with dirty carpets, an older bathroom, etc. Decent rates so can't complain about that, but don't be surprised if the room you get isn't the cleanest.

Bed was way to fiirm, should had another blanket to thin -did not like shower set up

Checking in was easy. It sounded like someone was trying to come into our room at one point and then our door opened sometime around midnight but we had the bolt in place. They apologized and said I’m so sorry this is the front desk and then you could her and a man say “you messed up”. The sound on our TV did not work which was a little disappointing. The carpet needs to be cleaned or removed. It has a lot of stains and just looked very icky.

Stayed here for 2 nights and the difference in the 2 rooms was night and day. One had a more up to date feel and I really enjoyed. The other, dirty carpet, older fixtures ans feel, just a complete opposite of the other room I stayed in. So I have to rate down the middle as you don't know what you'll walk into.

The hotel is undergoing renovations and I’m not sure whether we had a renovated or unrenovated room. The TV remote was not working and the coffee maker wasn’t functional. Several lights in the room didn’t work, either. The hotel didn’t have a restaurant- it was labeled “for lease”. Other than the main front area, which was made to look like an old library (very cool) everything was slightly dirty or in disrepair and not at all as advertised.

The pictures on website are 20 years outdated. Rooms had dirty carpet and not clean. Hotel room door didn’t even close properly.

The shower design was a little challenging as there was not a shower door or curtain, just a single glass wall covering half of the small shower so water splashing on the floor was unavoidable. We put the shower mat outside the shower to catch the water. The restaurant inside the hotel was closed/for sale. The television in the room were quite small and the remote wasn't able to connect to the the TV from lying in bed. The bed was very comfortable and there was plenty of space in the room.

I was not able to stay here because they were having computer issues. She asked us to come back in 45 minutes and then left! The door was locked, no one was answering the phone, and we were forced to go stay at a different hotel for the night!

The hotel has usually been very good, but this year they somehow lost ALL reservations made before November for a large January educators conference meaning numerous people arrived with reservations from hotels.com on their apps and no room for them. To make it better, the front desk worker told me they had a smaller room available and gave me the price quote for the full time I was scheduled to be there. I told them I'd take it and asked if I should come back for the new receipt at the end of a 3 day stay and was told "Yes when you check out Saturday we will have the receipt". Returned Thursday night to find all my stuff was gone. The front desk then told me I had only been booked for 1 night and they took all my stuff out. BUT my key still worked in the door where they had checked me out before! So if the next person has been in the room, when I walked in to find my stuff missing I could have walked in to whoever was there despite being "checked out" without my knowledge. The location is great and the rooms are usually pretty good, but in the 7 years I have been attending this conference this is the 3rd or 4th year I have heard of people having problems with rooms not being available or sold out from under. Make sure you call weeks before so you are sure you actually have a room!

When I arrived for check in at the Mark Twain hotel. the receptionist informed me their system was not working with third party booking companies. She was unable to check us in so I had to book a room at another hotel. How do I get a refund ?

The experience was horrible. The desk staff got into a fight and were vulgar in front of waiting guests including young people waiting to check in. They both eventually left with no service staff on the hotel premises. Some people said they had checked in, but could tell the beds were not made. The public bathroom smelled of urine and had not been cleaned for quite some time.

We got to the hotel late in the evening to check in, waited a half hour in the lobby, no one ever came to the desk. We walked all over the hotel to find someone, there was no one around. Front door not locked, elevators not locked. We were forced to leave there in subzero temps to drive to another hotel. The most awful and unsafe experience.

We booked a king room through expedia. When we got to the hotel we stood at the front desk with a group of other people waiting to be helped. After 5 or so minutes a woman came out of an office behind the desk, wearing a pokemon shirt. No uniform, no professionalism. When it was our turn to be checked in, she notified us that our room had been over booked and there were no more king beds available. She offered to switch us to a queen bed room, but stated she "could not over ride the booking. Only a manager could do that" she then stated that the manager "wont answer phone calls or texts" but i would not be charged with a king room. I would only get charged for the queen room. She then had to figure out which rooms were clean, because she "had no idea what rooms are clean or dirty". After a while she came back down and assigned us a room. By the time we get to the room its already 8:30pm. We are exhausted,frustrated, and starving. We get to the room, and its a single twin matress room. We take a bunch of pictures of the room, room number, and matress and figure we will get it straightened out after dinner. We eat, we go back to the hotel and tell the same woman in the pokemon shirt tells me the twin matress room is the same price as the queen and she doesnt have a queen. But i can get a refund from expedia, because the manager wont answer calls. I contact expedia,what do you know. They tell me they can not do anything except reach out to the hotel. Been weeks. Still nothing.

Staff was very accommodating and friendly. The only weird thing was the shower didnt have a door. It was a walk-in shower with a glass pane covering half of it, the other half was just open so water got on the floor. But the pressure and temperature was nice and the room overall wasn't bad. It's a vintage type of place, it was perfect for my trip though and I definitely plan on staying here again.

They want me to charged again, when I have already payed. I showed them my my receipt. The hotel it's not the best to stay in it, The receptionist it was scramming at us because we didn't want to pay again. if you want to shower you need to let the water run for at list 5 minutes so you can get hot water,the snick never got to get the hot water. The blinds are broken you can closed them, so at night you get all the light form the parking lot. The carpet is so dirty you can't take your shoes. , they are ripoff, they take advantage of people.

A good choice for staying if attending an event at the Civic Center; a short walk. Our room was fine, and there is plenty of parking. I would stay here again just for the easy walk to the arena. No breakfast or amenities to speak of, but I was aware of that when booking.

generally okay. I chose it because it was located conveniently to the hospital.

Very clean and comfortable room. Out of order note on outer door of parking lot and elevator. Elevator was confirmed to work by a maid despite note. Neighborhood is mostly cement but it was only a short walk to downtown activities. For the price I would stay again.

Homeless encampment 90 ft away

Absolutely loved the hotel. The atmosphere, the service, the cleanliness. Only pitfall is location as there seemed to be multiple homeless people in the area, some of which seemed to be hitting up patrons in the parking lot. If you arent walking anywhere, excellent place to stay!

Close to the river and downtown. Good location.

Great location to Peoria Civic Center. Comfortable beds. Love the charm the hotel offers.

Front desk staff not very helpful. Asked for a receipt and they could not provide. Internet issues at check-in caused delays. Restaurant on site is closed. Parking lot not very secure.

Friendly staff; location great to walk to anything downtown Staff didn't know anything about the City; condition of the hotel suggests renovations are in serious order.

Close to civic center

Atmosphere was nice. Staff was good during check in but the next morning the breakfast was vending machine that the front desk sets aside. My milk was 4 days past expiration and i received no apology just heard "we can serve after expiration date". No sorry. Told the restaurant is closed due to covid, seriously!! Not an excuse anymore. Entire experience was disappointing.

The rooms were great but the food in a bag was bad, my food had mold on it.

Stayed there mostly for the convenience of being downtown and the low rate. The hotel overall was worth a good value and overall was clean. Breakfast was delivered in a bag based on the menu which wasn’t bad, but very limited of course.

The staff was helpful and overall the hotel was pretty clean. However, the amenities they advertised online were not actually available. The biggest one being “free breakfast with made to order food”. The restaurant is shut down permanently, but we were not made aware of this at any point and only found out when we went to eat in the morning only to find a handwritten sign saying it was closed permanently and to ask at the desk for restaurant recommendations.

Carpet was very stained and appeared dirty. Lots of unpainted wall patches and shoddy "remodeling" in both our rooms and hallway throughout. No dresser or drawers in our room. Staff were super friendly, beds were clean, & the choice of continental breakfast was efficient.

My stay was good... the room was good... I wasn't used to traffic noise but I eventually fell asleep. I was a little disappointed that there wasn't a breakfast available and the vending machines weren't working. The staff was very kind.

We liked the easy parking and the bed was comfortable. Staff was very friendly. Check-in and check-out was seamless. There was 2 red stains on the carpet in our room (hoping it was nail polish). Wish they had a restaurant on-site.

The clerk checking us in and out was very friendly. The room itself was decent. Bed wasn't very comfortable. There were areas in the room that looked as if they hadn't been cleaned in a while. No remote in the room for the TV. Breakfast was horrible. The area the hotel is in did not seem safe at all. Would not stay at this hotel again.
