I liked that they've maintained the 50s-60s style of the interior courtyard! And the pool was very nice! I was disappointed they no longer have the restaurant and lounge they advertised online on orbitz. We had hoped to arrive, have a drink and light meal and go to bed. I have Dr appts in the morning. We found a place a little ways from there but I feel mislead by the internet photos and descriptions.

The hotel itself was good. My only complaint was that we had to pay to park! I've never EVER had to pay to park at a hotel when I'm paying to stay there. In my opinion that was absolutely ridiculous, do they not make enough off the price of the room to pay for parking?

Check in was fast. Rooms were clean and was very quiet. Building is old but very clean. Pool is available from 10 to 9 pm. Breakfast was above basic. Disappointed about the parking. The site says parking available but when checking in the staff will charge you 13 dollars to park on the property very disappointed. If I knew about the breakfast and parking fee I would look for another hotel for cheaper without breakfast and free parking.

I stayed at this hotel in a recent business trip and chose it mainly to save a few bucks and not overpay for parking fees for the four days I was in Portland. You definitely get what you pay for at the end of the day. The hotel is old AC systems Carpet wallpaper all extremely dated. Smells like that a retirement home when you walk in. The fitness center wasn’t great as most of the machinery didn’t work, TVs had been removed and other than having it to myself really had no upside the continental breakfast consisted of bagels instant oatmeal, and hard boiled eggs. Quite frankly, this reminds me of an Econolodge or a Travelodge or some other thrifty price point hotel likely to find a better deal or just pay the premium to stay at a nicer hotel next visit.

Safe, clean hotel. Perfect for a one-night stop with the family. The kids especially enjoyed the pool, even though it was a bit small for how many people were in it! We also enjoyed the breakfast-lots of variety and a few healthier options (almond slices, pumpkin seeds, with plain yogurt!)

Great location to enjoy downtown Portland and an easy MAX ride to the Moda Center or other areas. Room clean. Bed VERY comfy. Quiet. Pool was small, but was a nice amenity. Breakfast was very strictly controlled, so get there early. (Even a cup of coffee!) Was able to accommodate an early check in no problem. Room furniture aged and in poor condition. Health/fitness center needs love - both treadmills out of order and an inclined bench with no free weights. Would stay again.

Needed a place to stay that was close the airport since we had an early morning flight. Boy did we make a mistake choosing this place. Room was ok until you looked around. Floor hadn’t been vacuumed. The bathtub had long, black hairs stuck to the sides and bottom. The chair for the desk was visually dirty and looked stained. It had crumbs on it so I didn’t use it. We got there late in the evening so we just put up with it.

The hotel rooms had stained carpets, green stained carpets. The furniture is all scratched up, my daughters room had blood stains so we kept our shoes/socks on They charge to park 12 dollars a day and a deposit they take their time giving back to you d 75 dollars. Won't ever stay there again Oh and the breakfast, talk about a joke. They had a waffle maker, which was the only good thing, and I got their peanut butter packets. The pb packets were so old 1/2 way into opening I notice the pb is hard! And the ham slices they had on ice, OMG DISGUSTING AND GREY

University Place has been our “go-to” hotel for many years. Its location is excellent and right off the Tri-Met line, so traveling around the city is incredibly convenient. The hotel is only a block away from food trucks, excellent restaurants, convenience stores, and various shops. The main reason for us choosing the hotel was location and value as we visit Portland as a family. The hotel value has been gradually declining, but during this visit the decline of the hotel and its amenities was drastic. Where housekeeping would visit every morning to refresh the towels, coffee and tea, and toilet paper, it is now all self-serve. As a guest you need to call the front desk to request housekeeping the day prior. We stayed four (4) nights and had to ask the front desk for clean towels, soap, coffee/tea, and clean sheets. Where the hotel once offered a robust hot breakfast each morning between 6:30 - 9:00am, I walked into the breakfast area to find cold bread, muffins, dry cereal and bruised fruit. There was coffee and tea available, but served in shot glass size disposable cups. The rooms, once spacious and clean were dirty (I found hard candy stuck to the carpet), peeling wallpaper with mold growing underneath, and an over-flowing toilet that leaked water into the carpet in the foyer/vanity area.

Hey! I love the feel of the 60/70s property. Staff was great, the pool was great! I was just bummed cause I had reserved a comfort room and got one of the older ones and still paid the price for the comfort room. Also our room was facing the max and it was super noisy all night!! Now I know for next time to get one overlooking the pool. No sweat! All in all we really enjoyed our stay.

A very dated hotel. It looks good from the outside but ... Bedside lamps were loose and difficult to keep on. Shower tile needs attention. The oh so dated cottage cheese ceiling was stained a brownish color around the perimeter where it meets the walls. Toilets are way too low to be comfortable. Furniture has seen better days. The elevator is too small to use the luggage carts comfortably. Basically, the property needs interior refreshing. Scrambled eggs and bacon/sausage would improve the carb and fruit breakfast fare immensely.

The room was clean and comfortable. My son and I stayed two night for a medical appointment and we had everything we needed. I even worked out of the room for 1 of the days. No issues with WiFi or other connections. The breakfast was good. There is a pancake maker, cereal options, breads and muffins. Juices and coffee. Fresh fruit and yogurt.

The pictures online are a little deceiving. The hotel is very dated. It almost seemed more like a motel with the doors of some rooms on the outside. Curtains, carpet, shower curtains, furniture, bathtub, and other in room amenities were older and dingy. The bed sunk pretty far down when kneeling into bed, which in my opinion, is not a good sign. We slept okay but I think mostly because we were very tired from our days adventures. It was hard to stay asleep long though. Breakfast was very limited but it's continental so that's what is expected. We did not eat anything from there but did check it out to see what they offered. The space was big and seemed clean. It was probably the best looking space. Public transportation right outside the front and a couple blocks down there are food carts. Getting in and out was not terrible in that area even with construction. The pool was closed since we were there in October.

First time staying here on 8/8/25. Pleasantly surprised by e earthing this place has to offer. Rooms has a mini fridge, microwave, shampoo, cond, body wash and make-up remover wipes! Room was clean. Not the newest looking or best condition, but perfect for 1 night! The grounds outside are beautiful and so is the pool. Continental breakfast was great! Waffles, yogurt, granola, fresh fruit, cereal, muffins and more! Would definitely stay here again. Great price and net all my needs!

Communal areas were clean but the room we have could do some refreshing - paint was peeling off the walls above the air con unit (hidden by a curtain which also covered the air con output, defeating the purpose of the air con unit). Very strict policy regarding smoking & vaping (absolutely nowhere on the property, inside or outside) - when we choose to vape outside away from any entrances, we were threatened with a fine for vaping outside in the car park - when I pointed out the were cigarette ends everywhere in the car park, the person from the hotel just blamed the homeless people. More signage to this fact should be put up in the car park, as the signs on the various entrance doors just state "no smoking or vaping anywhere within 10 feet of any entrance". Pool was adequate to cool down on the days it was 38C.

I chose this hotel as the location and price point met my criteria. I was in Portland visiting my son and needed to be near downtown. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of my stay. The hotel initially looked dated but as I checked in I noted how clean the lobby and how professional the staff was. This quality extended to my room which was large, super clean and very comfortable. Additional bonuses included reasonably priced parking on site and a nice breakfast provided in the morning. As the name suggests this hotel is near the University and I loved that it was close to a nice selection of food carts and public transportation.

I had some hiccups when first arriving. I will start off by saying the customer service from the start was amazing. I can’t remember her name but she was so polite, happy and was great! The first room I was given someone was already in it. Thankfully they had the tv on so I didn’t go in. Second room had dirty sheets and at this point I was done with my day which was not going well from the start of our trip anyway. Went back down for a third time and was offered an upgraded room. Which I accepted and was told a manager would contact me as she was making notes for them. The rest of my stay in the room was great. Room was clean, beds were comfy and the balcony was a nice addition. Quiet area and felt safe within the hotel no matter the time. Pool is heated and was a nice treat. Breakfast was ok. Toast, cereal and hard boiled eggs was pretty much it. The one thing I disliked was that at 3am I needed to go out for some Tylenol and a guy at the front desk suggested I walk across the street to the 24 hour store. That area is rather dark. I am a female in a city that I am not from so there was no way I was going to put myself in that situation. I already knew there was a 7 Eleven around the corner I just needed to know if they were open. The guys who work these late shifts should not advise women to walk alone in a dark area of a city they aren’t familiar with. Thankfully I had a car that I can get around with. No manager ever contacted me like I was told.

I already knew there was a 7 Eleven around the corner I just needed to know if they were open. The guys who work these late shifts should not advise women to walk alone in a dark area of a city they aren’t familiar with. Thankfully I had a car that I can get around with. No manager ever contacted me like I was told.

The room was clean, and the beds were comfortable. The area was nice and located close to transportation. Unfortunately, their key machine was broken so we had to have someone come with us up to our room to let us in each time we needed into our room. This was a pain but I understand things happen. To make it worse the door handle to the sliding glass door to the patio was broken and unusable.

I was given my room key when arriving, and it turned out there was someone already in the room staying there. It was very unsettling thinking you're going into your room after a long day of travel and its already occupied. Mind you I was traveling with my wife and baby. The elevator was very small as well

Staff, food, location were excellent. Our neighbors were extremely loud and we weren’t able to sleep until after 1:30 am. A call to front desk who told us to let them settle in as they had just arrived did not help even though I said it was extremely loud.

At 2:00am multiple dogs began barking very loudly. Took half an hour before owner clamed them down. No staff intervened. Took another half an hour for owner to get dogs out of the building while having loud conversation with other upset guests. Dogs continued barking in parking lot right outside of rooms. More than an hour of disturbance in the middle of the night before things calmed down. Mentioned to staff the next morning and there was no offer of a way to make it right.

Front desk staff was super friendly. They were very approachable as I needed assistance with a Band-Aid for my autistic son. They were very helpful with directions in the area and just overall a great crew

The price drew me to this property but with that price, you are going to get some rust stains on the tub & they don't clean your room during your stay. However, it is easy access to walk downtown & it is right next to a food truck area. It is nice that they have breakfast in the morning but breakfast can get really busy during peak hours (8:30ish). The front desk employees are helpful. It's a no frills kind of place but if you're planning on spending your days walking around the city or hiking, it's really all you may need.

University Place was a decent place to stay for a short period of time. We stayed for two nights. The room was relatively clean but dated (it needs some major updating, the carpet replaced, better beds with sheets that fit the beds, and a good breakfast bar), did not have many amenities, the breakfast was limited. There are so many homeless people lying all over the place. I would not have felt safe to walk around there alone. With all that said, we would stay here again as it is close to transportation, the hospital, restaurants, and the people that worked there are super nice.

Best value hotel in Portland. Safe and quiet on the PSU campus with the light rail outside the front door and the downtown trolley one block away. Also lots of great dinning options in walking distance and really close to downtown cultural spaces like the Portland Art Museum, Oregon Historical Society and Portland Symphony.

Over the last couple of years we have always stayed at this location for simplicity and proximity to the train station/system. This trip we noticed that the included breakfast has been severely limited and reduced. Part of the reason we have selected this hotel was because the breakfast was great. in 2025 that doesn't seem to be the case anymore. In its place is automated pancake maker and something that resembles eggs... The juice selection is now more watered down than ever and overall selection is very limited. What happened?

Safe, clean hotel. Perfect for a one-night stop with the family. The kids especially enjoyed the pool, even though it was a bit small for how many people were in it! We also enjoyed the breakfast-lots of variety and a few healthier options (almond slices, pumpkin seeds, with plain yogurt!)

The room was fine but there was no exhaust fan in bathroom, bathtub needed some updating, there was a dirty coffee cup with some liquid in it and a cover on top that was left by previous occupant and there was a roach crawling up the wall. The breakfast was fine and the hotel in general was fine. It just needs a little updating. The location was good and I would stay there again.
