What guests think

Service is widely described as warm and attentive, though several guests reported curt front desk interactions, slow or delayed check-in, and benefits via third parties not always recognized. Rooms range from comfortable and spacious with Central Park views to dated or small, with occasional HVAC or plumbing noise and limited in-room amenities like coffee makers or USB ports. Dining, especially breakfast and the bar, is often enjoyed, but prices are high and quality or billing can be inconsistent. Expect a heritage-style stay that favors classic charm over cutting-edge modernity.

On-site bar and restaurant draw praise, and valet parking is available, but some note a dated gym, non-24-hour room service, intermittent courtesy car availability, warm elevators, long-running exterior scaffolding, and a daily facilities fee.

It is a walk back in time to stay at the Pierre. We were there when they had jazz music in the bar. Excellent service. Best location.

Sadly the Pierre is not the hotel it was, interior is dated and a little worn, service definitely not the level I was expecting - for example room service failed to deliver. Also be aware there is a “facilities” charge similar to a resort fee added to your bill regardless of whether you use or receive the benefits (apparently pastries, bottled water, gym usage etc) and appeared on my credit card after I had settled my bill at the hotel - it was not mentioned to me at check in or check out. I love the hotel location but there are better value alternatives close by.

The hotel is part of our cities loved hotel. We cherish the building and the idea of the hotel. Service is alway excellence in great care! I had a small room on the 11th floor which had a large room under construction. So noise started at 8 am and painting during the over night session. The room is old with a few antique items, no frills. No small coffee maker, NO ROBES!!! , not many channels on TV SET. The front door cut high so hallway lights shun brightly under the door and into the room. Poor air quality from HVAC window unit. Also, window cold air leakage. Otherwise the room was O.K. or, good enough for where I was dining a few blocks away . So we could walk there . I stayed at the hotel because I am a local resident and come from Queens to have dinner with my wife and see friends, go to theater ,etc. I always loved this hotel. Scaffolding is still around the building for the past 12 years, unreal !!! Residential apartments under construction in continuous undertakings and also, just as a point, I am a garden designer and top florin NYC , the arrangements are beautiful but frankly, hydrangeas are over and spider mums , anthurium, etc are an old outdated floral design. Although the arrangements are always nice. The hotel - Lowell down the block has spectacular floral arrangements. I assume Taj hotel group is on a budget this year. Thank you

Room not ready (2 pm), nor did they send me a message when it was available. Ended up in our room at 4 pm. Parking was terribly difficult ( the hotel advertises self-parking across the street, but the attendants said parking was full). If the only guarantee is valet parking, please don't advertise other options.

Hotel had a courtesy car hotel car that was never available. But other than not having a car, the hotel was modest and comfortable and quaint. Unfortunately hotel room didn’t have an espresso coffee machine. At least we had complimentary water bottles.

A Grande Dame Hotel in NYC that still deserves its reputation for luxury. The furniture is exquisite. Tables and chests are mahogany with inlay of a lighter shade wood. The bathroom is huge, with separate shower and bath of high quality marble that is up to date. Also has a tv. High quality mattress. Central Park views. Staff responds to telephone requests in minutes. However, no 24 hour room service. Last call at 10:00 pm. Food is five star. For a VIP, it is just like home.

I liked the history of the property and location. I thought the bell person on the elevators was a little over done. The room upgrade I received was a little underwhelming. The fitness area for a 5 star hotel is not up to standard with other hotels I've stayed at.

When I first visited NYC in the early 60s I stayed at the Pierre. It was wonderful, magestic, unforgettable experience, the best of the best. In my recent trip I decided to try it again. I am truly and sadly disappointed. Aside from the very nice staff, the experience is so very disappointing. It is old and looks old, the carpet at the room hallways is all stained, the air conditioning in the hallways is off, I found three, yes, three bugs in my room. Overall the hotel is understaffed. Out of six elevators they only have two operating hence you have to wait quite some time for your turn. The prices of services are outrageous, $100 for coffee and a basket of assorted bread. They charge daily $34.43 plus tax for a "Hotel Facility Fee" which I considered also outrageous. I will NEVER repeat the experience nor I will recommend the Pierre at all. So disappointed and sad.

This was not my first stay at the Pierre, however it was disappointing this time. Half used toiletries and a leftover ice bucket full of water from the previous guest…makes me concerned about whatever else housekeeping missed or overlooked when preparing my room. Upon leaving as we headed outside to meet our driver as he pulled up the doormen made him move to another entrance so that we had to take all of our luggage and walk around to the other entrance in the cold. Apparently there was another “high priority” guest arriving.

Location is excellent. Check-in staff was great and gracious enough to give us an upgrade. Gym is open 24x7 with water and towels alway available. On the flip side, Elevators look old and it’s difficult to read the floor numbers. There was only 1 USB connection in the whole room ! Bathroom doesn’t have a phone - I had an incident where I got locked in the bathroom and the door would not open - An unsettling experience!

Stayed 5 nights. First the positive hotel is classic great location great neighborhood. Now things that keep me from giving great review. First I got to hotel at 2:10 PM and couldn’t check in before 3PM second on 3 of 5 nights a dog was barking 11PM and woke us up. At almost $700 a night I didn’t expect that. Finally the one day I needed the WiFi it wasn’t working. I called front desk and was I transferred to some help line where I was on hold and never got help.

We were extremely impressed with the service. We had a problem with our room (there was a squeaking sound) and Crystal, the manager, was very attentive, giving us a different room and walking us up to the new room to make sure it suited our needs. This is the Grand Dame of NYC hotels. The best location possible opposite Central Park close to everything. The Staff we friendly and super friendly. All that said. When we arrived at 3:30 for a 3:00 Check-in our room was not ready. We had ordered a pot of coffee for a 7:00 AM delivery and it never showed up, for the second day we asked they put a “coffee setup” in our room but that never came. It took 4 requests to get a fridge to our room. The room was spacious and clean and the closet was bigger than many NYC apartments, the bathroom was very nice and well appointed. I would stay here again.

Some of the staff, notably Britney at the front desk, Willie from security, the doormen, the housekeepers, and the women staffing the elevators, were so lovely and kind. Genuinely wonderful. Quiet, elegant, sophisticated, historic... The Pierre has all that classic old Manhattan's graciousness that is the antithesis of NYC's rush-rush and more-more. Rooms that are lovely and roomy. A staff that is not just welcoming but helpful! AND Perrine, which merges Italian, Indian and French cuisine with the greatest burger I've had in years. Not to mention an inventive cocktail menu that's sophisicated and creative to go with all the classics. Ask for Kenny; he's a great service professional,

Despite we since our booking more than five months ago have been asking for a quiet room, we were disturbed by internal maintenance noise from 6.30 two days and from ouside maintenance people most days from around 9 and all day. I know the hotel did some maintenance outside, but not on all 43 floors and all four sides of the hotel. If they wanted they could have put us in a quiet room away from maintenance noise.
