At Bahia Principe Grand Tulum - All Inclusive, guests highlight friendly staff, kid‑focused pools and activities, and expansive, well‑kept grounds, while repeatedly citing inconsistent food, hard‑to‑book à la carte restaurants, a rocky/seaweed‑affected beach, and occasional room maintenance or humidity issues.

What guests think

Families especially value the kids club, splash zones and multiple pools, plus access to sister properties, though shuttles can be slow, bars understaffed, some shows cost extra, pool hours end early, and there is no room service at this section. Rooms range from renovated and spacious to dated or damp; beds can be firm, AC sometimes struggles, and ‘two‑bedroom’ suites are typically one bedroom with a sofa bed. Dining quality varies and reservations are limited, with some watered‑down drinks and hot dining areas. Overall, expect a lively, family‑oriented mega‑resort with great pools but variable dining and service.

Overall our stay was very nice! There were several dining options available however you needed to book your reservations 10 days in advance. However I only received my pre-check-in link five days in advance and was not able to make any reservations for à la carte dinners. Customer see was not able to help make any dinner reservations when we were at the property. One of the swimming pools was closed and there was no notification of this. Overall it was a good experience friendly staff, the property was very well maintained and very clean property. The one downside was the beds were not comfortable at all. Other than that it was a good experience!

Perfect Family Getaway! We had an amazing experience at this resort—perfect for families with young kids. The kids absolutely loved the pools, splash pads, and play areas, which quickly became the highlight of the trip for them. Everything we needed was conveniently nearby—food, snacks, drinks, and beach access were all right next to the kids’ area, which made our stay incredibly easy and enjoyable. The staff was outstanding—always attentive and quick to respond to any requests. Highly recommend for a stress-free and fun family vacation

Great resort for the family. Enjoyed the pools at Tulum, and the beach shared by Coba / Akumal. Buffet is one of best we have been to ever. Would have been nice to get an al a carte every night, but restricted to 3x for a weeks stay. Entertainment was very good, however, paying extra for their better shows feels wrong at an all inclusive.

Beautiful resort. Nice staff. Loved the wild life roaming the resort. They had great shows. We saw the magic show & the talent show and they were awesome! Kids enjoyed it. Pools were always clean. Was hard to get a pool chair as people left towels or personal things and left for hours. A la cart restaurant were also very good!

I liked the grounds, and the quiet pool. On a personal note, I wish we would have stayed at an adults only resort. Its a very large resort and very busy. I prefer a smaller quieter venue. If you are traveling with children and multi generational family members, this place is excellent.

The hotel and staff overall were good. I’m rating them a 3, because all restaurants were booked by the time we arrived, our AC didn’t work in our room at check in, but it was fixed promptly. Pillows smelled funky. There was no coffee bar at the hotel but hotel amenities said there was, we never saw it. Not enough staff to wait on people at the pool. Drinks were watered down. However all staff was friendly.

Dining options during our stay were severely lacking. My family and I were limited to dinner at only two restaurants: the Mexican and Brazilian. The absence of Italian and Japanese options is misleading and a form of false advertising. Most other restaurants were fully booked, and we were unable to secure accommodations elsewhere. The venue was overcrowded and understaffed, which resulted in inadequate attention and hospitality. While cleanliness was commendable and the buffet was acceptable, the entertainment was merely average, and there was no nightclub available for guests. Overall, the experience was disappointing. However, a few staff members, notably Saul and Ana in the dining area, provided excellent service, making our visit somewhat more enjoyable. Additionally, I had a couples massage with Karen and Analy, who provided outstanding service. In terms of improvement, the pool bar had only one staff member managing drink orders, which felt inadequate given the large crowd. While he excelled in his role, having more staff would significantly bolster efficiency. Adding some entertainment while serving drinks could elevate the overall atmosphere, making it an even more enjoyable experience for guests.

close to golf course, buffet options were amazing. family suite with two bathrooms great. fit 5 ppl no problem. tennis pro, Daniel, was great. snorkeling was suprisingly good. volleyball net was packed. could use another one. dinner reservations were always full but heard restaurants had empty tables. guess people abused that. buffet had so many options we didnt mind too much. we stayed 4 nights with 3 teens. the kid bed may not fit our youngest next year though so may have bring an air matress. they didnt seem to have another option. 4 person fishing excursion 2 hrs in rough conditions landed us a barracuda and small mahi mahi. guys doing that were nice.

I think it should be posted somewhere that the pool closes at 7pm that’s very early. It really caters to the children but if you didn’t bring kids I wouldn’t recommend staying here. The food at the buffet was cold often and to get a nice sit down meal you need to make reservations way in advance.

Grounds, pools and common areas are often kept clean, and many guests found rooms tidy. However, several report musty or damp rooms, mold or ants/bugs, birds/raccoons near dining, and inconsistent housekeeping or restocking.

Beautiful property. Good service. Attentive staff. Nice pools. Good shows at night. Very small std room. It was supposed to fit our family of 4 but it was way too small for that. The bathroom door is actually only semi private. Same with shower door. After pointing that out, they did take care of us and gave us a much better room. The main buffet was average. Quality and selection of the food could be better. Not many options for vegetarians. And they use the same grill and utensils for everyone so if you’re a strict vegetarian, not ideal. We had a terrible experience at the Thali restaurant and great experience at Tequila restaurant. Also, beach was full of seaweed and it was pretty much no access. Overall, we liked it but wouldn’t go back.

The resorts excels in some areas but lacks in others. The stars of this place are their employees. Friendly and helpful in every possible way. They made the trip memorable. The swimming pools were great. Always something fun to do. The coastal water were great as well. The resort keeps the beach and and clean. If you're traveling with your children, they'll be in heaven. Decidated facilities just for the little ones. Wonderful. My two biggest complaints were their food, and the rooms which our party stayed in. The buffet selection is vast, but disappoints in flavor. The meats were very chewy and flavorless. Other selections were so salty, we simply couldn't eat them. The sushi was room temperature, which made it unpleasant to eat. Same with the deli meats. It was simply too hot in that particular section. The Ala Carte restaurants were good, but if you don't book 10 days prior to arrival, you'll likely get stuck with one or two options, often at late times of the night. Ours ended up being around 8:30 and 9pm. Moving on to our room. They were spacious. Great views of this wonderful property. My big disappointment was the unbearable smell of mildew/mold. Whenever the air conditioning was turned on, the room was filled with this nearly suffocating smell. For the remainder of my stay, I kept the balcony door open 24/7 to keep the fresh air flowing. Since returning home, I've washed my clothes twice, and the smell of mildew is still quite present.

The room was very nasty, the floors, the shower just everything. The room never got cold from the A/C being on. There were spiders and bugs all in the room. Also there were a lot of animals walking around including raccoons that people should be warned about.

Property was great, well maintained safe we felt comfortable with our son in the kids camp and other children walking around. Plenty of options for seating and lounging by beach and pool and although it seems impossible to erridicate the seaweed completely, they did their very best we could see they did there very best. At all inclusive resorts we don’t usually have high expectations for the food as it’s more quantity than quality. It was as expected nor bad or good, just worked I would recommend the resort and we would stay again

We stayed here late June to early July. This place is health hazard, from food to pools and amenities. Mold in the rooms, buffed food not cooked through, dirty pools, most of the restaurants at the property are closed. For the entire duration of our stay we had to eat at the buffet for breakfast and dinner. This place is infested with lemurs. Those creatures are everywhere, by the pool by the food and restaurant at the grounds. I was honestly concerned about my families health . If you want to have a memorable vacation don't go there, you will not get it there. Save your money. Shame on Expedia for giving this ghetto 8.4 score, you are supposed to be a trusted source, but the information you provide your clients with is outdated, inaccurate and misleading.

Rooms

Some renovated, spacious suites with separate living areas suit families well. Recurring issues include firm beds, weak AC and humidity/mildew odors, maintenance problems (doors/showers/hot water), and that “two‑bedroom” units are usually one bedroom plus a sofa bed.

Friendly staff, grounds well kept, great food/drinks, all the animals were wonderful to see, rooms are clean, but the beds were horribly hard. It's not a problem for some, but for us, it was an issue. Pools clean, beach nice, ocean was rough, but if you walk a bit down you find little coves that are calm with lots of fish and you can use the other hotels beaches.

The room was nice but it is NOT a 2 bedroom. It is a 1 bedroom, with a pull out in the living room and 2 bathrooms. Staff was generally friendly, but they don't have enough people working there. Or at least not clearing dishes, refreshing food and drinks, and keeping things tidy and clean. No one comes to take orders around the pool or on the beach and the food in general is just average. Everything feels watered down including guacamole. Even the orange juice is some synthetic mix of juice, water, and something like tang. The staff at the gym are not friendly at all and even kind of rude. There are raccoons and birds constantly after your food - even on the outdoor seating for dinner. I get it, it's set in the jungle, but it's gross and they should have staff actively shooing the animals away. That said, we enjoyed our stay. Location is great and the room is nice, even if it isn't what they advertise. The gardens are pretty. I had a good vacation, but I would not go back to this resort.

Clean room - water was not very hot though we tried to get it fixed & had to call about the AC & the mini fridge not being cold. Housekeeping forgot to restock things a coulle of times but the concierge fixed it upon calling. Definitely have to do the pre checkin and book you a la carte meals in advance as we only were able to book one as they were all full. Could not get to scuba desl to book - they seemed open at different hours then listed. Resort was clean and the staff was friendly. Beautiful place. Overall a good experience but it could have been better.

The room I booked had partial ocean view and I was eligible for a room upgrade, which I got but the new room had no ocean view at all. They just upgraded from 2 queen beds to 1 king bed room, which at the time of booking were of the same price. Their transportation service is terrible. Takes forever to get to room from the lobby specially in the hot and humid weather. It was also almost impossible to reserve seats at any of the restaurants, specially with a family as they had limited seats. They mentioned 3 food stations available but only "The Truck" was open.

No availability to book for any of the a la carte restaurants. The golf cart to and from the lobby was rarely available . Entertainment was lacking . The music choice was meh. The food in the buffet was ok . The room was comfortable and clean. King size Bed was comfortable . The 2 bedroom suite is actually a separated living area with a sofa bed (queen size) with a pocket door. The ac worked very well .

Poor performance from the staff. I spoke few times with the guest service to get additional gestures to celebrate my partner 50 th. Nothing was done ! Very disappointed! Very limited option for lunchtime ! Ongoing construction and renovation included during the weekend. Very noisy ! Clean location and also great cleaning services. Service is very inconsistent. Spa (used for massage and also manicure) poor service and performance! At the manicure the ladies were talking together instead of focusing on the customers! Clearly not a 5 star in my view!

The trolley drivers and waiters/waitress were really good and attentive. The rest of the staff was very rude. Such as the gift shop and the front desk staff. They were acting like they were doing me a favor. Even one of the managers told me they were doing me a favor by giving me two nights at the restaurant. You’re expected to eat at the buffet for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I would not recommend this hotel.

I had an absolutely great time at Bahia Principe Grand Tulum. The staff were very helpful, the buffet always had a wide variety of options whether it be breakfast, lunch, or dinner, and there were numerous activities to do. The resort also has a few a la carte restaurants that you can make reservations for that are included in the price. I would recommend doing this as soon as possible because they book extremely fast. The pool was also very nice, well maintained, and had a swim up bar. My room was also very clean and the house keeping staff did a very good job of cleaning it daily, although two of my outlets didn't work which I did report to the front desk. A couple of minor critiques that I do have is that the bars could use a little more coverage so that people aren't waiting too long for a drink. Also, I think it would be nice if there were a night club on the resort like some of the other Bahia Principe locations for the young adult crowd. The nightly entrainment usually ends around 9:45-10 o'clock and it would be nice if there were something to do for folks who don't want to turn in so early. Overall, I definitely enjoyed my stay and would recommend this resort if you're looking to vacation in Tulum.

What an amazing 8 days in paradise. I can truly say this was an amazing hotel with amazing staff. Francisco, the waiter in the buffet made sure me and my family were taken care of. He was so thoughtful, caring, and respectful. This man truly made our meals special. There were not waits for the buffet. The food in the specialty restaurants were mediocre. The buffet was good. My son especially enjoyed the teens club. Big thank you to the staff there for caring and keeping an eye on him! To the Bahía principe team, thank you for an unforgettable vacation.

Ive never stayed at a resort where the staff made me feel like a burden. Most of the resort staff are rude and it feels as though they do not enjoy working there. The al a carte dinners were not very good. Most of the food was cold and it felt like the same food you would find at the buffet. They limit their al a carte reservations to only a few per day for their guests. What is truly pathetic is the resturants are 1/4 full when you are dining there. The buffet food was average at best. There was not a single thing i can say stood out to me as impressive. For the price one pays to stay at this resort. Its definitely not worth it. I will not be returing to this property or any others under bahia principal bannor. I was unaware this resort is a Timeshare. Less than 24 hours into check in they lied to us about providing a tour of the property to show us around and what they have to offer. Then they put us in a very low pressure sales pitch to spend 35k for 210 days of vacation. I would never buy a timeshare from bahia especially they way their sales person presentation was done. Both the sales person and the closer were below average in their sales pitch. Zero substance. After staying at the property i would definitely never buy into the bahia brand. Imagine a customer spending 2 nights away from your resort during our 7 night stay. Which is exactly what we did. Spent one night in isla mujeres and then basically checked out a day early to stay in cozumel.

Location

Set within a large, wildlife‑rich complex with access to sister properties; some note convenient access to the Tulum airport. It’s remote with little nearby, walking is significant, transport/airport shuttles can be unclear or extra, and the beach is rocky/seaweed‑prone (calmer areas near sister hotels).

This property is HUGE. It’s a very long way from one end of the property to the other. This also made it a trek to get lunch, and there weren’t a lot of options. There are A La carte restaurants but since the app/website didn’t work properly, I couldn’t reserve in advance so I had a lot of trouble getting reservations. We only got 2 out of the 4 we were allowed, and while the buffet was ok, it got old after 10 days. The quiet pool and beach were amazing. It’s a real shame that the restaurant that is RIGHT THERE, is NOT open at lunch. This meant quite a walk at lunchtime.

The property did everything they could but the seaweed prevented us from swimming or going to the beach. The humidity was horrible. We sweated thru all of our clothes. No elevators. We had to walk a lot and far sometimes. The resort is huge. Amazingly staff. Very friendly & professional. We felt very well taken care of. I would definitely come back. The transportation guys could be nicer & more patient. We felted rushed & overcharged a few times. But overall such an amazing resort.

If you are looking to be secluded, then this is the place for you. It is a very nice, large property and I love the fact that you can move between their sister resorts. But honestly, if it wasn’t for that, I am not sure if I would have enjoyed it here as much.

Nowhere to go near by the property just the Hacienda. The shops there were lackluster. It felt that we will get scam at the Hacienda and it felt unsafe.

Massive hotel (4 large Hotels in the same location). Had to walk too much between all the buildings to get food or entertainment. Very nice staff and the food was very good and well prepared with a lot of choices. Btw. Read the small print. There are no elevators. Due to the storm we lost a day. The hotel from desk was very helpful and courteous. Expedia was non existent and handled the situation very poorly! I Tate the hotel at a 8.5 star. I have used Expedia probably 15-20 times and always had good luck. I give Expedia a 1 out of 10 on this one. Very dissatisfied with Expedia on this. I would recommend the hitel but very disappointed in Expedia’s performance!

Gorgeous spot. Buffet got old real fast, wish it had been more authentic mexican foods rather than americanized versions. I wrote ahead of time and was told we could get a room near the buffet/main lobby because my husband is handicapped but we were put into the furthest building away so that made for a real challenge. Oceanfront wasnt great for swimming/snorkeling, Nonetheless the majority of the resort was lovely.

Honestly so much to visit within the properties of this resort. Only thing you have to find your own transportation to airports. Should have a shuttle.

The resort is very nice and conveniently located near Tulum airport. The staff are very nice and helpful. The pool area has plenty of chairs and plenty of bars to get drinks from including the swim-up bar. The only downfall is reservations to the restaurants are near impossible. Everything is done through an app which is great and they advise to check constantly for reservations availability but when you're on vacation who has time to be on their phone checking.

Thank you for asking. My experience with Bahía Príncipe Grand Tulúm was absolutely great. I can’t say the same about my booking with Expedia. The problem was my transportation from Cancun Airport to the resort and back. It was not clear on the Expedia website during a booking process that I need to book my transportation separately. During my previous all-inclusive trips to Mexico with other companies, I never encountered into that kind of problems. The transportation always was included. That problem has caused me a significant emotional distress at the Cancun Airport and additional cost for a private taxi. I also didn’t feel safe giving the recent warning about American and Canadian tourists kidnapped in Cancun area. Also, there was no Expedia representative at the Bahía Príncipe Grand Tulúm or other Bahía Príncipe resorts. Thanks one of tour agents of the resort who helped me with transportation back to the Cancun Airport on my way back home.

Dining

Buffet variety is broad and some à la cartes are enjoyed, but quality is mixed and dining rooms can be hot. A recurring issue is scarce or restricted à la carte reservations (sometimes extra charges), inconsistent or watered‑down drinks, limited late‑night options, and a few reports of illness.

Food is decent/good at buffet. A la carte are hit or miss. Don Pablo had best food but they have a coati problem in the rafters that tends to urinate on diners. They need to address this. Food truck and burger place serve borderline terrible food. All bars are very understaffed so expect long queues. Servers in the evening do a great job and most of the time quicker to get a drink than waiting in line for bar service. Thankful for the quiet pool, also best beach area near that pool. No bar open at theatre where nightly entertainment is held. There is one but they choose to not open it….weird. Renovated rooms already seem dated, they are very basic but did the trick. Nespresso machines would be a welcome addition as those tired coffee makers aren’t great. Only place to get a decent coffee is at the lobby bar, they have self serve coffee machines also as an option but the coffee that those machines produce is terrible All in all a decent budget friendly option that features lush greenery and fun wildlife throughout the resort. Most staff members are very friendly. Its proximity to Akumal beach is a plus and easy to get there to enjoy snorkeling and spotting sea turtles.

Unlike what’s described in the website from hotels.com: you do not get 7 restaurants to chose from for free, you get 2 free ones (buffet and a fast food- not tasty food truck) and 5 that charge $100+ for a sit down a la cart meal. You cannot reserve ahead of time even of you want to pay, so availability will be very limited (unless you pick dinner at 5pm or 11pm). There supposed to be a place that has icecream during the day- it it was closed on our stay and if you wanted ice cream you needed to pay for it…Buffet food was not worth what we paid for the ‘all inclusive’ package, but that only crowded single place was the included food. Amenities for kids were nice, except for the pool side area needing anti-slide protection. Saw many kids and adults falling down, us included… Do not recommend, save your money and go to a small boutique place if you want to eat well!

I honestly would not recommend this resort after my experience. The food was awful from start to finish, both in taste and in variety. Nothing ever felt fresh or enjoyable, and by the end of the trip we dreaded going to eat. The service was no better. Staff were either unavailable or simply uninterested in helping, and every simple request turned into a problem. Sleeping was also uncomfortable because the fans in the room made a constant loud noise through the night. On top of that, the faucets leaked water all day long. It felt like nothing in the room was properly maintained, which made it hard to relax. When it came to dining, if you missed the main hours you were stuck. There is nothing open later at night and nowhere to grab even a small bite. Trying to make restaurant reservations was another nightmare. Everything was always booked and it was nearly impossible to secure a table without spending half your day checking for availability. The transportation around the resort was just as frustrating. The shuttle only comes every 15 to 20 minutes, and when it finally arrives it is already full. We spent way too much time just waiting around instead of enjoying our vacation. Room service was practically nonexistent. We requested it one night and nothing ever arrived. After waiting and realizing no one was coming, we had to walk down to the front desk just to complain. That is not the kind of service you expect at a resort that is supposed to make things easy for guests.

The property and grounds were well maintained and appealing. The pool area was clean and big. The restaurant and buffet had a good selection but can do with more options for vegetarians. The downside of buffet area was that there was cross contamination of meat cutlery with vegetarian cutlery and also the food labels were not informative or clear for a vegetarian. Staff in the kitchen were lacking in knowing if a dish was vegetarian or not. The room we had, had multiple issues such as leaking shower door which would flood the outside and room had smelly air con leaving the room smelling damp. Although notice is displayed regarding reserving sun beds, this was totally ignored and people reserved their beds at the crack of dawn. Organising excursions from the hotels partner company amstar was simple and they had plenty of options and activities to book. The market outside the hotel was a positive as didn’t have to travel far for souvenirs. The daily evening entertainment was good, however guests should not have to pay for entertainment at a “5 star hotel”.

The food at the buffet was mediocre. The “better” restaurants required a reservation but were all “booked” unless you pay an extra fee. When I checked in I was given a room with a broken door and a lock that didn’t work. I had to speak to the staff 3 times to try to fix the issue which was not adequately fixed I was then changed to a room that was not comparable. My original room had a jacuzzi tub. The new room was basic with just a shower and it smelled funny. They didn’t even offer me anything to make up for the inconvenience. I wouldn’t recommend and I wouldn’t go back.

We attempted to book a dinner reservation TWO WEEKS before our arrival date and every restaurant was full. We continued attempting to book a reservation everyday until our last day of the trip to no avail. So our family had to eat the buffet each meal for 7 days. The buffet food was below par and not family friendly for kids. The staff was very nice and the rooms were clean. It is helpful information to know that there is NO wait staff around the pool. If you want a drink, you have to go get it yourself unless your in the ONE pool with a swim up bar. Buffets dont open until 7am, 12:30p, and 6pm.

Ok so if you are going to Bahia Principe Explore Tulum - first thing you should know is to GO SEE ORIGINS. It was amazing. Make space for this. The Tequila Restaurant was amazing - a standout for sure. We also loved the magic show. The staff here is AMAZING. Just absolutely wonderful. We had a great time. Just a note: The thermostat is set at 71 degrees in your hotel room. This was difficult for us and felt rather warm given what we are used to in Northern California.
