Stayed 2 nights

Hotel should have notified guests that the G20 (or other major event) was happening that weekend - prior to booking (I would not have come). I was expecting a relaxing 2day spa weekend but instead got a convention environment (as an uninvited guest). The spa was completely sold out (blocked?) for Friday & Saturday, when we arrived on Thursday afternoon. Many areas of resort were off limits including restaurants, patios, etc. On Saturday we were asked to move car from garage by 9am and checkout by 11 , sports center closed Sat. (basically get off the property since was taken over by G20) security presence with 50+ police and metal detectors etc, was not relaxing. (started Fri afternoon) Lobby was a convention with half of guests wearing badges and overfilling the space. We did “not” enjoy our visit. Also for the price, the rooms and facilities need updating. They are marketing a 1913 Grove Park Inn with Stickly style furniture - but proving a large 30 year old (2wings of building) convention center with off brand furniture that is worn and needs varnish or replacement. The 2 wings of hotel have such bad sound insulation that they have to post signs & fliers to remind guests to stay quiet after 10pm (never saw that in any other hotels). Staff was Ok but not exceptional, food and parking overpriced. …

This is a historical property and there is much to see and do on the grounds. The weekend was crowded and lots of families with children were staying, so it was not easy to get in the restaurants without a reservation and the pool was crowded. So if you can plan your trip during the week, it will be better. We had a wonderful stay and spent the entire day at the spa. After a fabulous massage, we enjoyed the many pools and sauna, etc. The restaurants serve excellent food and even the room service food was great. This trip was to celebrate a birthday but I would recommend not waiting for a special occasion. This is a great destination and there is enough shopping and other activities to spend a couple of days at the Grove Park.
