What guests think

Guests describe Extended Stay America Select Suites - Detroit - Farmington Hills as a no-frills option in a convenient area, with experiences ranging from comfortable, quiet stays to frustrating issues that affected room condition, sleep quality, and trip logistics.

Many mention strong odors, stained carpets, and general grime, with a few reports of pests. Hotel is very dirty . Not good for wheel chair bound person. No coffee pot , no cups, no pans. Next morning breakfast provided with no hot water and coffee. I have to wake up front desk people. Around 730 she came those pots. I don’t have enough words to complain. I will never recommend this hotel to anybody. I will never book this hotel. Towel shelf very close to toilet seat. My husband bang his head few times to top shelf. Front desk don’t have any utensils because they are not clean .In spite of asking pots or pan or coffee pot she didn’t provide me anything. My husband is a wheelchair bound. I cannot leave him alone in the room . It was extremely stressful weekend staying at this hotel.

Stay at this hotel if you want NO amenities! No ice machines, no housekeeping services, you have to trade towels to get new ones. The carpet in our room has not been cleaned in a very long time if ever. The only saving grace was the front desk staff who were very nice and hospitable! Will never stay again!

The rooms floors were absolutely disgusting. The entire room was just kind of out of date. The lights above one bed flickered and then went out completely at one point. There was nothing in the kitchenette, and the refrigerator was gross on the outside. The TV in the room is on, but the remote did not have a cover on the back. Just overall not what I was expecting from an Extended Stay.

Lobby smelled terrible. Only had an hour to shower and get to a funeral visitation so didn't have time to complain. Room smelled worse than the lobby. Got back to our room at 9:30 pm with two little kids so decided to complain in the morning. In the morning the front desk was closed with a roll-down metal cover. Bathroom had soap and conditioner but no shampoo. Booked two nights but left after only one.

The area is close to a lot of dining options so the location was convenient for what I needed it for. But this is not somewhere I would go back to. Staff and maintenance crew were very helpful but the rooms were not cleanly. Had to have maintenance unclog the shower drain prior to using it and remove the live ants from it.

I didn't have high expectations based on the overall 7.0 rating. However, I did not anticipate the rooms and overall facility to be as filthy as it was. A repulsive smell permeated the room I was given. After two nights of no sleep due to the severity of the smell, I communicated the issues to the manager who moved me to another slightly less disgusting room, and agreed to remediate the situation by discounting my rate. Several follow-up attempts I made to contact the manager were subsequently ignored. I do not recommend staying at this neglected facility.

They gave our rooms away blaming the "3rd party booking company (hotels.com) for having a 'glitch' in their system. I purchased the travel insurance thinking if something happened it would cover any problems. The Extended Stay in Farmington Hills, NI booked our rooms to a business that wanted a whole floor. The manager lied and said he tried to contact me. Hotels.com sent a confirmation email 3 days before our trip confirming our rooms. They overbooked, blamed Hotels.com and me and were going to give us a studio room with 2 beds but no discount or comp for screwing us out of our rooms. Horrible situation, horrible hotel.

My wife had just been released following outpatient abdominal surgery 1 hour before we checked in. She was told to find a motel near to the hospital in West Bloomfield rather than driving 300 miles to our home in Northern Michigan immediately. We drove home the following day. The motel clerk, Alex, was fantastic, and gave us a handicapped room to ease her stay at no additional charge. The only reason that I gave the motel a "4" rather than a "5", was because of the so-called breakfast - some muffins sealed in plastic, some cheap bars, and an empty coffeehouse machine; not even any orange juice. We had an actual breakfast at the Subway a quarter mile away.

The room was dirty, stains everywhere and globs of things flung on walls in each room. The shower dripped non-stop. Pillows were flat. The room smelled horrible. No coffee or breakfast, like the description suggested. People wandering around outside, standing in bushes, made me uncomfortable. Lots of yelling heard throughout the stay. Staff asked me if I used a “ghost card” when checking in, which I’m not sure even is to begin with, when I asked why the card used to hold the room was charged instead of paying at the property like I selected and paid extra for. This was a true “you get what you pay for” property. Very unhappy.
