The Farrington Inn

Basic lodging in an old victorian. Portable heater in room. Shared bathroom. It was safe. Had parking. Shopping, clubs, a block away. Decent neighborhood. Easy to get to freeway.

My partner & I booked this place as a last minute stay. The staff was very friendly but didn’t explain things very well. The parking situation was rough & on top of that, you have to pay for parking. This place is not at all like it is advertised. We checked in & were then brought out on to the street; they have several properties throughout the neighborhood. Our place was hot, dirty, & felt unsafe. Everything was dirty & seemed unsanitary. We had to share a bathroom which was incredibly outdated & dirty. There was mold all over the shower & no clean towels. My partner hit his head getting into the shower because it was so low. The lock on the door was flimsy. We checked out at 10 p.m. due to feeling incredibly unsafe & uncomfortable. I absolutely would not recommend staying here, even for the price.

The first thing that hits you the moment you enter the premises is the SMELL!! It’s between mildew, body odor and another unidentified unpleasant smell that made it really hard to tolerate. Everything is very outdated, paint peeling off the wall, the doors the bathroom etc….including an outdated inspection. The rooms look like they’re rent by the hour if you catch my drift. I found eyelashes stuck to the worn furniture, stains galore on the carpet, cigarette burns on the brown cover folded on the end of the bed, mold inside the ac unit, and stains on the white bed sheets and pillow cases. If the price wasn’t as cheap and I only needed it for a few hours of sleep before my flight, I would have definitely stayed at the airport on a bench. That would have been cleaner and safer. I had to pay an additional 10$ for parking as well. I wouldn’t recommend unless you’re on a really tight budget and don’t care if you have to share a bathroom or contract a skin rash or respiratory infection. The gentlemen who checked me in was nice. I was provided the tiniest thinest towel for the shower…um no thanks lol. By far the worst place I’ve ever stayed, and I travel ALOT. I would say invest in at LEAST some new carpet (or just remove it all) and beds/sheets/ mattresses

You get what you pay for. Acceptable stay, very small room, dimly lit, noisy a/c and shared bathroom. Fine for a place to just sleep overnight. Only limited street parking for free.

Had more of a 'hostel' vibe than a hotel (e.g., we had a shared bathroom, although there were several available at any given time). bed was a bit soft. Location was terrific (9 minute walk from the T). We got one of the limited onsite parking spots (reasonably priced at $10/day), but I could see this being an issue. If you have issues with mobility, it might pose a problem since there is no elevator.

It was an older building. Had a small kitchen area and large room. Plenty of places in the area to ea and shop. Public transportation right there. Cant beat the price!

Good food options nearby (particularly Chinese). Great price for the location although minimal amenities.

If you’re looking for a fancy hotel with all the bells and whistles, this isn’t it. But if that doesn’t bother you, it is convenient to pubic transportation, close to restaurants, and free parking. The staff was very attentive too.

This is a great budget stay, but you are getting a budget experience so know what you're signing up for. Acoustics are bad. You can hear through walls. Condition of building is not great. But the rooms are clean, safe and the staff is helpful but lean, so they will do a very good job at their limited scope. I love staying here because it fits the constraints I have for short, business travel, but I wouldn't take a vacation here.

MAKE SURE YOU READ THERE NO BATHROOM IN THE ROOM

Carpet was filthy. Beds were clean, but the pillows old, flat, and smelly. Towel was clean, and a sink in the bedroom closet was functional. Know what to expect .... this place is really bad, but compared to the hotels nearby it was affordable. Staff was very nice and accommodating, though. The communal bathroom was gross, gross, gross. I would never shower in that moldy tile from the 1950's with grungy sliding door. The toilet seat looks to be at least 30 years old from the worn paint.

There are hairs on the bed and floor. Seemed not cleaned. I didn't expect any luxury with price, but at least keep the room clean

Very, very old building that has not been maintained and has the paint literally falling off the walls. Dirty shared bathroom.

The property got the job done when it came to having a place to sleep, showers and bathroom areas were dirty, moldy and in deep need of renovation. The shower on our floor was clogged with water pooling in the bottom so we had to use the one upstairs. There were bugs in the kitchen as well. There was laundry that worked which was a plus and there was air conditioning in the room. Everything else was in pretty poor condition but got the job done for the price range. Would only stay again if we were desperate.

Nothing like advertised. The staff is welcoming but the place is filthy dirty especially the rooms. Carpet in the room is so stained everywhere that you can’t even walk on. The toilet and bathroom filthy dirty, toilet had poop in thereomg it was a traumatic experience, I had to leave 19 mn after I arrived to go find another hotel. The staff is nice and accepted to give me a refund.

Very old and run down which didn't bother me until I tried to open the window shade only to have it completely fall off. What bothered me most however, was the lack of cleanliness. The whole place was absolutely filthy. From the ceilings to the floors was just dust, dirt & debris. And don't even get me started on the bed linens which were stained and had holes in them. Staff was friendly and helpful.

Location is good but the hygiene is simply awful. The place is falling apart and there are no amenities. Staff are very pleasant and nice and they try. Location is very close to Harvard, loads of restaurants but the houses on the street need a whole hell of a lot of love. Shared bathroom, no soap or shower gel or any amenities so buyer beware. Final pro tip: Check the bed sheets for stains, we found dried in coffee or something dark anyway!

The whole building is filthy and out of maintenance. The hygienic condition is far below the minimum standard. Toilet not working, no soap, no shampoo, no TV, the mattresses are screamy without springs. The bedding didn’t look clean. The overall service and condition are significantly worse than what is advertised on the website. Do not come, it is a fraud.

Everything is so old, dirty and smelly!!! The picture of the room I picked on the Expedia website is not how it looks in reality. The mattresses are extremely uncomfortable and make a lot of noise. The TV is not working and is there for just decoration.

The bed was terrible, the bathrooms were shared, the grout in the shower was disgusting, the lamp shade was torn, there was melted cheese in the microwave. I am 75 and have never stayed in a worse hotel.

Uncomfortable mattress, musty carpets, no elevator, had to carry suitcases up two flight of stairs.

This place was a very basic “hotel” at an extortionate rate, probably because my stay coincided with the Boston marathon. There was a shared kitchenette with appliances which looks like they dated from the 1950s and a large TV that didn’t work (no signal cable); the shared bathroom had a shower that just about worked but, again, looked like it was 50 years old and had an unreliable temperature. The room itself was quite large in floor area but tucked under the eaves so had little space to stand up in. I’m not sure the lock on the door would have withstood a firm attempt to open it. Sheets and a blanket barely fit the bed and the window blind didn’t block out much light. If someone used the washing machine in the kitchen at night, the sound of the water pipes supplying it were very noticeable in my room. The rooms may have been clean but the decor was so tired that it was difficult to tell. The local area is “colourful” but that did mean there was plenty of choice of restaurants (mostly Korean) in the area. The plus point is that it was only about 10 minutes walk to the Harvard Avenue Green Line station so I could get into the city quite quickly even though it was a few miles outside the centre.

Location is all its got. This was a horrible place, and it's obvious from the second you show up. The people who were in front of me in line got a special day rate and were only there for 2 hours. The poor guy checking people in was overworked and it took 35 mins from me entering the office to get to my room. The mattress was in utter disarray and might as well have brought camping gear. The sheet was not even elastic and came off exposing others germs etc. The lock on the door was enough to keep a mid-size man to about 2 kicks to get the door open. I will never go there again. Good luck if you make it out the next mroning

Nice neighborhood, a charming (old) house. Boston is definitely overpriced, so this charming Inn was the solution in my budget. The room was very clean, but not very confortable, with a very old mattress. The bathroom was shared, but very clean.

Quaint old house with a distinctly run down feel. There i a reason it's $150 a night less than any other place in Boston. My mattress was forty years old!

the only thing it had going was the soft bed. everything else was ghastly. noisy... my room was next to old wooden stairs, you can imagine my sleep.

It was convenient to restaurant selections. My room included a bathroom so that was a surprise. It didn't have a glass or a cup, yet it had a microwave and a refrigerator. There was no washcloth. I felt the sprngs in the mattress while I slept. The hallway rugs appeared worn and dirty.

I've stayed at the Farrington probably 50 times for work. It is a funky place but I love it. Clean but maybe the blinds will be bent or the desk will have a drawer that doesn't open. I don't care, it is close to BU, it's unbelievably cheap for Boston, and the staff are really great. When I stayed there every week for work, they would remember that I needed extra pillows and bring them out without my asking. Last week I called in a panic because I couldn't find a hotel on the way from NC to Boston and I called them at 11am asking if they had a room for me at 2am. "No problem, come in!" was the answer. I'll stay there every time I go to Boston!

Cute Inn! The outside is really pretty, but the inside needs some work. There were stains on the walls and carpets. The bathroom had strands of hair all over the floor and in the drain, with more stains on the tub. The service was great. Lewis was super kind and friendly!

It was just what we needed. The staff was pleasant and helpful. The room was clean, comfortable, and safe. The airconditioner worked well and the there were towels and toiletries that we needed. Be advised that it is a walk up but that was no issue for us. Yes, it is old but it is clean and safe.

Great value. Mattress was excellent. It’s a rooming house, not a motel.

Seems like only one person works the desk. After checking the person in in front of me he said “I’ll have to go downstairs to get your keys.” Five minutes later, he returns with keys. He then walks them to their room somewhere else out the front door. One person ahead of me and it took 30 minutes to get checked in. Very dingy hallways and room. I’m glad I didn’t bring my laptop.

The air conditioner worked, Free parking. The staff was available courtesies and helpful. The neighborhood was nice with good restaurants in walking distance. The price for the night was a bargain. So if you want an updated and spotless facility go elsewhere and pay hundreds of dollars a night. If you are looking for a clean room and bed for the night this is the place.

Hotels in downtown Boston are too expensive. This place is right off Harvard Ave near BU. I stayed in a micro-apartment in the second building, so I can't comment on rooms in the main building. It seems to be an old-timey boardinghouse. Bed, shower, wifi; if you want more amenities, be prepared to pay much more somewhere else. Close to a T stop. If you drive, be prepared for frustration, but that's Boston.

This place is good at budget and there are choices of tastes from different countries such as Korea, Chinese, Turkey, Middle East. There is McDonald's within walking distance. I saw Jaguar and Land Rover dealer not far. Taxi is convenient in Boston Metro area.

Let's be honest. If you're looking for the Ritz (or even the store brand) then this isn't the place for you. I spent just over $400 with tax for a 2BR with private bath apartment on St. Pat's weekend in Boston. There's a TON of great food and bakeries within walking distance, it's 5-10 minutes walk from the green line and there's multiple buses that go into town. It's it a great place? No. Is it a great deal for the money, hell yes.

We had a great time, and this is in a good location. We took a short walk to Harvard and enjoyed that area. The room is very minimal, but nice people and clean bathrooms.
