Across reviews, Staybridge Suites - Ames by IHG stands out for spacious, clean suites with kitchens and a well-liked breakfast, while feedback notes friendly service alongside missteps, mixed pool experiences, and recurring issues with TVs and occasional maintenance.
Guests call the location quiet and convenient for Iowa State and major roads, and several enjoyed the outdoor patio areas with seating, grills, or a firepit. Beds are often comfortable, and a two-bedroom layout offered good privacy, though a few report noise from neighboring rooms or hallways. Overall, expect an apartment-style stay suited to families and longer visits, with a few intermittent hiccups.

My family of 5 decided to take a last minute trip to Boone Speedway and found Staybridge Suites. It seemed to be the best bang for your buck out of the surrounding hotels, even airbnbs. The property was clean and quiet. The beds were phenomenal. Its the first time Ive woke up in a hotel without my neck and back hurting. The showers do take a little longer than normal to warm up, but no big deal there. The pool is in its own building just outside the back door and it has a really nice back patio. We spent time there sitting around the firepit. The staff was kind and welcoming. We'll be staying there again next year.

We were allowed to check in early which helped immensely with our event scheduled that day @ Reiman Gardens Christmas Light. Our room was spotless. The amenities offered were super. The pool was the best we have experienced for cleanliness & temperature to enjoy the pool. The breakfast buffet was delicious & spotless.

This was tricky to rate! I chose this hotel and paid more than others in the area hoping it would make things less stressful for a business trip I took my kids on. It did not. Pool was closed, TV wasn’t working, and the bathroom sinks are so tall my 7 yr old couldn’t reach to turn them off and on. That said, most of the staff were willing to problem solve-moved rooms halfway through for a working TV, borrowed a step stool from the front desk (they should buy a few of the $10 kids ones form walmart!). So the staff was willing to solve problems, it just seems they’ve been left by the franchise or property owner with a lot of problems to solve. Overall, it’s not the place to stay with kids, or at least not worth paying 30% more than other options in town if you don’t really need to be able to cook in your room. Super nice house keeping and maintenance staff!

The hotel was newer and you could tell. Whoever the contractor was did a horrible job finishing it. Things were broke. If you miss measure something just of caulk a bunch...lol. there were Holes in the shower. We were moved from 1 room to another cause the TV was broke. Then the TV in the newer room broke as well. No one there to fix it or help at night. Beds and room were comfortable. And front staff did what they could about TV which was not much.

This facility is new. The new construction is not completely finished. There were no curtains in our living room. There was spackle and paint on the carpet, giant gouges in the kitchen flooring, no dresser in the room with two beds, but two telephones in that room, a lamp behind a TV, because it didn’t get hung on the wall. Definitely not worth what we paid per night. Front end manager unhelpful. Still waiting on a call from the area manager.

The hotel was new and clean. Suites were spacious. Beds were comfortable. Breakfast was good with a good variety of foods. The only reason i didn't give it a 5 start was that we were unable to check in at 4pm because only 1 of the 3 rooms had been cleaned. We were on a time crunch so we unloaded everyone into the 1 clean room and came back later.

This hotel is the best one we’ve stayed at in all the years we’ve visited Ames. A fantastic find for our son’s graduation weekend at Iowa State! We booked two rooms which were spacious, comfy, well-appointed suites that incl a kitchenette and sleeper sofa. There was enough room for all of us to gather, have drinks etc. Breakfast was outstanding in comparison to other hotels in the area. Staff was friendly and professional. Super clean. Highly recommended!

To be honest, I was a little taken back that this was a new property. The bathroom was very outdated. I would say bathtub was yellow. The caulking was already changing color and then on top of it all when it was storming at night, I had water pouring into my room onto the carpet, which I did bring to the staffs attention in the morning and they just said they will tell their maintenance to look into it and put the room out of service.

Strange experience here. The first room we were given had no TV. We let the front desk know and were given a second room. When we entered, we discovered that there were people sleeping in that room! Not cool. We were then given a third room and it was fine.

I was on my way through to Missouri and had a quick overnight stop in Ames, IA. I appreciated the large, spacious room with a full kitchen. I had a large cooler of food I was bringing with me, and having a full refrigerator in the room was a godsend. Very quiet and comfortable stay. Thanks for a good night’s rest! Would definitely stay here again.

We came at a time where there were a lot of kids staying in the room above us. They were making so much noise and hitting the floor so hard it rattled the fixtures and things fell in the kitchen. We called the front desk, they told us the noise was due to the stairs. We called a second time when the noise persisted. We were again told it was the stairs and the employee did nothing about it. We had to go to the room and knock on the door ourselves to get the noise to stop.

Hotel is nice and rooms are big and well equipped. However, on last two stays, the key cards did not work. Got them re-set, and still did not work. Really frustrating. This is 2024!! Key cards are not a new technology. Staff acted like it was my fault, but they couldn’t get the cards to work, either.

This was a relatively new and very clean place to stay; good breakfast. Highly recommend. One thing though: I arrived very late for reasons beyond my control, was very apologetic to the night manager, said sorry if I disturbed her rest. The next morning, after four hours sleep, getting ready for major event, she laid into me for accusing her of unprofessionalism, etc., that she had never been talked to in such a way. I said I was sorry, that I was exhausted, needed to get on zoom classes with my students (she was unable to help me with wifi issues).... and she came back with "well I was a teacher for 22 years." It was a little odd. I think we all have to put up with each other, tiredness, misunderstanding, and so on, but when you work in the \'service industry\', one should resist the temptation to lash out at a client/guest whom you feel has treated you poorly -- never mind one who has actually not treated you poorly. I think this was a passing and strange encounter. Otherwise, the hotel is fantastic.

Our son will be a freshman at Iowa State University in the fall. We chose to stay at Staybridge because we needed to complete a college visit. What we found was a nicely appointed lobby, which was very clean. The front desk hostess e was very accommodating and very knowledgeable about the area. Our room looked amazing! Very large and comfortable. More than enough room for our family. I was very pleased with what we discovered and the next time we are in Ames, Iowa we would definitely stay there again. It’s close to campus and the highway. The amenities are very nice. The staff is friendly. What more could a visitor ask for?

Very large and comfortable. More than enough room for our family. I was very pleased with what we discovered and the next time we are in Ames, Iowa we would definitely stay there again. It’s close to campus and the highway. The amenities are very nice. The staff is friendly. What more could a visitor ask for?

We were allowed to check in early which helped immensely with our event scheduled that day @ Reiman Gardens Christmas Light. Our room was spotless. The amenities offered were super. The pool was the best we have experienced for cleanliness & temperature to enjoy the pool. The breakfast buffet was delicious & spotless.

The room was very nice and clean and the breakfast was great, which we were appreciative of. Unfortunately the stay was overall a negative experience due to the pool. We chose this hotel for the pool which was ice cold and smelled strongly of sewage (I believe from the adjacent bathrooms - not the pool itself). Our kids were incredibly disappointed to not get to swim and this negatively overshadowed the rest of trip. If you have a family wanting to utilize the pool I would suggest another hotel.

Everything was overall great, pool is always a gamble, as you are at the mercy of young kids and it being really loud. Breakfast was great too, missed the Buiscuits and gravy, since it was recommended when we checked in. But overall a great experience.
