Tru By Hilton Holland, Mi

What guests think

Tru By Hilton Holland, Mi earns frequent praise for very clean, modern spaces and friendly staff, with many guests appreciating the good value and convenient location near restaurants and a short drive to downtown and Hope College.

Rooms are compact and minimalist with limited storage, thin walls and hard floors that can carry noise, and motion sensor bathroom lights; some mention missing in room amenities like a microwave or coffee maker. Facilities include a lively lobby with games and a pool; there is no hot tub, and a few guests noted occasional elevator problems and a tricky driveway or signage when accessing parking. Breakfast is generally well liked, though several reviews cite items running out, some food served cold, limited variety over longer stays, and an early cutoff. Overall, it suits travelers seeking a simple, modern base at a fair price more than those wanting extra in room comforts or guaranteed quiet.

This hotel is very clean and in great condition. In fact, everything looks new. I like the fun designs in the room and the Not Soap, Radio brand of products in the bathroom. Beds were comfortable. We used the pool table and the board games in the lobby. Good coffee (Lavazza) with regular and flavored coffee creamer and hot chocolate available 24/7. Would stay here again.

It was a bit tricky to get to the parking lot for the hotel. The Tru parking lot was accessed by driving through another hotel lot. Signage could help. Bed and room were comfortable. The motion sensor lights in the bathroom turned off while I was showering. Not a huge deal, but maybe a setting adjustment would help. Breakfast was the usual hotel type.

I discussed upon leaving with the staff that when we had arrived at 1:00 a.m. and went to use the bathroom in the dark once the light was on I realized that there was dried urine all over the toilet seat and underneath it I do realize that the front desk staff has nothing to do with that we were there for a funeral we finished out our stay but the room had not been cleaned at all The floors were dirty there was candy bar wrappers behind the trash cans that we don't eat and the bathroom had absolutely not been cleaned It was just a real disappointment because we usually try to use Hilton when we stay places but this is probably the dirtiest place that I've ever stayed in in a long time thank you

It was very modern, clean and well lit.The room had some unique glitches tho.The bathroom light that blazed on when door opened during the night was annoying. Then if you closed the door to walk back ti bed it was pitch black. No night light.Just have a low light night light in bathroom. The room key card for operating the electronics was also kind of strange.

Very clean, nice new hotel with very friendly staff. The room was a little small, lacking a few things like closet and any extra space but nice and clean. One thing that was annoying was all lights were on a motion detected on/off and if you stopped moving (like in the shower) the bathroom Lights went off.

Overall, the room was nice, clean and the furniture was in excellent condition. However, this isn’t the style of a hotel that I prefer. That aside, I was extremely disappointed at how thin the walls and floors were. It sounded like elephants walking above my room. Also, at night there was some kind of ‘popping’ sound near the door, which sounded similar to someone tapping on the door with a keycard (which wasn’t the case). Maybe it was the hotel settling since it’s so new? Also, I was a bit put off when they wouldn’t provide a late checkout, even if I wasn’t Gold or Diamond (or whatever) status. Most other hotel brands agree to a late checkout unless they’re absolutely booked.

The room was clean and new, a bit small, but not bad. Be warned though, there was not a coffee maker in the room, which in our experience was very unusual and inconvenient. There was also a kids hockey tournament in the area so the common areas on the first floor were chaos and the families had no consideration of anyone else in the hotel; running up and down halls, screaming, and getting hockey lessons in the area in front of the elevator. We also had a kid screaming, running, and jumping the first night past 2 am in the room next door, while not the hotel's fault, they did not answer at the front desk any of the times we tried to call to get assistance with the noise. They also could have asked the hockey families to be more considerate of other guests in the common area.

The hotel wasn’t very kid friendly. The rooms are small and not sound proof at all. They were clean and updated. They were out of black tea and out of towels in the pool too. Probably good if you are going without kids and don’t mind hearing everything going on around you.

This was a new hotel, and it felt like it. I'm not sure if it was built new from the ground up or if it went through a massive renovation, but it felt very clean and modern. The TV in the room was superior to any hotel TV I had ever seen. The breakfast was pretty good for a cheap hotel, although I wish it had stayed open a bit later since I missed it on the first morning. On the downside, the mattresses felt cheap and uncomfortable. You could tell this is where they cut corners, and that might be the worst place to cut back. I've stayed in several affordable hotels that had MUCH better mattresses. So, yes, this hotel is modern, but it's not fancy. Clean and affordable.

To no fault of the location or staff, all of the issues were design flaws. Zero amenities in the room. Not even a closet. Very poorly designed and constructed. I like the idea of no carpet but it makes for a very loud stay. The floor did not feel clean but it was just such cheap flooring. Again, not the fault of the property, but definitely a brand issue. Will not choose Tru again.

Worst hotel ever! Fraudulent charges were added to my card. Staff couldn’t explain anything about the billing. Kids running up and down the halls and in and out the elevator after 11:30pm. Two nights was 186.80 but yet was billed for 392.77 with no justification from TRU by Hilton. Only thing TRU about this post is DO NOT STAY at this hotel! If you do make sure your charges are TRU and match because a binding itinerary contact stating your charges is not TRU.

Limited breakfast. The lobby was like a zoo with 30 kids under 13 running the halls and up and down all floors at 11:30pm. Front desk has no clue about billing or the extra charges placed on my account. DO NOT stay at this hotel and if you do please check your bill for extra undisclosed charges. Parking is a joke if there’s snow on the ground! Stayed for two nights and the side walks were never shoveled. Had to wait over an hour to check in because of lack of housekeeping staff. For $300 a night this is unacceptable. You can certainly afford to pay what it takes to adequately staff the positions. Also, the laundry room is out of service despite having brand new machines. How is that even possible?

Property was new, room was nice, clean and comfortable. Just seemed like the staff did not want to work. Checking in, I had to wait several minutes for staff to get off their personal cell phone. Garbage cans were overflowing, coffee not ready, got there 5 till the end of breakfast call and staff were rushing to shut the breakfast bar down. The stay was just okay. I expected more from this place. Room amenities were great; I just expected that management would be more on top of things.

This is a basic, budget hotel, but it is the second time I’ve stayed there and for the price it is clean and in a good location about 10 minutes from Hope College. The bed is okay and the cleanliness is fine (I did wipe my bare feet down before bed and the washcloth was dirty. The biggest letdown is the breakfast. It is not unsatisfactory even at a budget hotel. Most Tru’s have a pancake machine. This one the pancakes are premade and they are simply not good. The other breakfast options did not look appealing either, but to be fair, I didn’t try them. All in all, I would recommend it for a quick visit.
