What guests think
At Elkotel, many guests highlight friendly service, modern decor, and spacious, pet-friendly rooms at a fair price, with a convenient location for road trips and an appealing lobby that makes a strong first impression.
However, reviews repeatedly mention ongoing renovations and facility issues, including frequent elevator outages, broken ice machines, and occasional lobby or fitness room problems. Cleanliness and maintenance are inconsistent, with reports of dirty floors or dog hair, lighting and outlet faults, TV or Wi-Fi troubles, and intermittent hot water or HVAC noise. Breakfast quality and replenishment vary, ranging from decent to cold or understocked, and front-desk availability can be slow, especially at check-in or late at night. Expect a good-value, pet-friendly stop with modern rooms if you can tolerate some operational kinks.

Renovations are ongoing and facilities show recurring issues: frequent elevator outages, broken ice machines, and occasional lobby air-conditioning or fitness room problems. Parking is generally easy, and the property is pet-friendly, though a designated pet area is lacking.

Nice hotel, friendly staff, and close to restaurants and shops. The beds were comfortable and there was a decent free breakfast. We had two dogs with us. Our room was on the second floor and the elevator wasn’t working, which made it a little challenging for our three-legged pup and getting our stuff and the doggie stuff in and out. Overall great option in Elko that is pet friendly.

Starting with the positive: it’s a pet friendly place, the decor is modern and not as kitschy as a lot of what I’ve seen in the western US, and the bed was one of the most comfortable I have slept on in a hotel. The blackout curtains were very affective and make for a good night’s sleep. I also appreciated that the room had hard floors, not carpet. The neutral: the breakfast was very average or even slightly sub-par and didn’t have many options, especially if you have any kind of dietary restrictions. The negative: the person who checked us in let us know that they had issues with flooding on the second floor. The gym sustained a lot of water damage and wasn’t really useable (although it’s clear that they are working on it). We also noticed water damage on some of the artwork in our room. Not dealbreakers and hopefully issues that will be remedied soon.

Very nice hotel that is pet friendly. The only thing that would make it great is a pet area outside. Convenient location and good price.

Was told on arrival that the property had been completely remodeled and was just beginning to open. They should have waited another week until they were ready. Elevator and ice machine didn’t work. Refrigerators and microwaves for rooms hadn’t been delivered yet. AC wasn’t strong enough to cool room fully. TV kept freezing. Breakfast was limited because they hadn’t gotten things yet. Construction dust and debris in halls and room. That said, if they clean up and get things functioning it could be nice. Room was spacious

During my stay this property was under ACTIVE renovations. This was not mentioned when I booked and would have influenced my decision. When complete, I think the Elkotel will be very nice but for my stay the properties plagued by delays and problems with the upgrade. The elevators were not certified so stairs were the only access to the upper floors (which I can’t image is ADA compliant) , the rooms I booked were supposed to have microwaves and refrigerators but because of delays in delivery the rooms I paid for did not have the advertised amenities. The AC in my room was not working so I had to ask to be moved. To be fair, the staff was very kind and sympathetic but because I had pre-paid through hotels.com they could offer no refunds or discounts. The hotel should have done a better job at communicating about the renovation and delays with guests prior to their arrival/check-in. I will likely not stay here again.

I was a little skeptical about staying here. I was very much surprised at how much I liked it. They are in the process of renovating the rooms. There are some of the areas that needed some attention in cleanliness. Mostly the bathroom on the main floor. Whoever is painting the rooms let paint drip on the marble in the bathroom of the room we had. It bothered me enough to scrape it off so it looked better. You are welcome. The room was spacious, the AC was quiet and worked well, The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was quite nice. If I come back this way and have need to stay in Elko I will pick this place for sure.

Surprisingly nice. Clean room, newly rennovated and nicely decorated. Breakfast was good, probably the best scrambled eggs as far as hotel breakfasts go. Staff was courteous and helpful. Bed was comfortable and pillows were good. Would recommend.

Initial walkthrough of room showed food crumbs on the floor that hadn’t been vacuumed up. Coffee pot had an old dried up used coffee filter in it. Bathroom shower was clogged, so we had to unclog the nasty hair clogging the drain. The next morning at 6:50 am, dogs were barking aggressively at each other. Nice wake up call. Oh, I forgot to mention that we only had one face towel in the room, so had to ask for a second one. Breakfast area the next morning was a mess. Food all over the floor, tables had sticky stuff all over them, chairs were littered with food. All in all, I wouldn’t recommend this place.

Elkotel does a great job of providing the area with a place that is fresh and modern. The lobby is attractive and spacious, and the front desk staff was very nice. The rooms were decent overall. There were some spot on the walls that looked like they missed the second coat, and the floors were very dirty. Otherwise, the bathroom and bed was very clean, and there is a lot of space to lounge and do business in the room. Perfect for a one night stay-cation for me and my wife!

I’ve now stayed at your hotel twice, and after this experience, I can honestly say it will most likely be the last time for us. Our first stay was good, except for the dirty floors—my socks were black within five minutes of taking my shoes off. Additionally, the shampoo and conditioner bottles were only half full, indicating they had been used by previous guests. Despite this, we decided to give it another try. Unfortunately, this time the experience was disappointing. The floors were filthy, there was trash under the nightstands, and used pillows were left under the beds. The bathroom trash can was extremely small—just a soda bottle would fill it so no other trash would fit—and when we asked for another, we were told they were having issues with corporate and had no more to give. It’s a shame because your hotel has great potential, but it really needs staff who will take the time to clean properly.

We went for the weekend for a wedding. We were extremely disappointed in this hotel. Our bed had dog hair all over it. The floor was dirty and full of dog hair, there was no iron or ironing board in the room. The bathroom faucet is falling off. The smoke detector was chirping. The air conditioner smelled like wire burning. That was the room. Room 306. The breakfast was awful, cold eggs and sausage. The coffee creamer had spoiled and was not changed out when told. There was no one to answer the front desk phone to handle issues. When I arrived to check in I waited over 10 minutes for someone and the only words the guy said to me was elevator is on the other side of stairs. I will be going back to Shutters up the road on my next trip. They need better, friendlier and more efficient staff in order for this place to not have its rating totally tank!! Owners hold your staff accountable.

Not my favorite place. Wi-fi didn't work and the staff did come up to try to help, but ultimately it never worked. Seems like they know about this issue. The tv remote didn't work either other than the power/volume buttons so couldn't work or watch tv. No washcloths, just large towels and one medium towel. No outlets at the desk, so can't really plug in computer and other devices, although there were outlets by the bed.

A clean, modern hotel - but also quite basic in facilities. (E.g., my room had a coffee maker, but no coffee, nor any paper cups.) The breakfast was mediocre. However, the WiFi was reliable and fast, so that's good enough for me.

The hotel was remodeled really well. My four kids and I had a good time while staying. The breakfast had a few good options for breakfast and all kids had something they would like. My only issue was the double size bed and not having much room when sleeping and having to conscious to not fall when sleeping.

Overall, this was a very nice hotel. We, unfortunately, got a room next to one of the exits and across the hall from the ice-machine, so it was a bit noisy throughout the night. But, still, we enjoyed our stay and especially thought the staff was super friendly.

The room was freezing, we turned the heat to but it was so cold and the bedding was really thin. The tv also didn’t work. Everything was plugged in and I even called the front desk for assistance, but it didn’t work. It was kind of a bummer. The room was cute and clean, at least.

Overall it was just ok. There was no one at the front desk when we arrived. The number they left for us to call must have been a cell phone for the person working and was not answered. We yelled out “hello” multiple times and a housekeeper finally acknowledged us. It was several minutes until the person working came out from the back room - with earbuds in so he couldn’t have heard us at all. This soured us on the entire stay.

The young man that checked us in on Tues night was GREAT!!! Towels were good quality. Breakfast had issues, items were not replenished often enough, like coffee cups, coffee, waffle batter. Front desk staffer had to do all the breakfast help. The other woman in the filthy shirt finally came to help but not much and very unfriendly.

Went to check in but no one was there, had to wait 30 minutes for a clerk to arrive to check me in. Room was ok and spacious with two tv’s, however the tv in the bedroom only had about ten channels while the one in the next room had a full compliment??? Refrigerator was turned off and not cold and there was a full sack of garbage under the sink. The breakfast was skimpy, eggs, toast, cold cereal. This is a budget motel that needs some serious management and cleaning to make it an ok place.

The TV and Wifi were both not working. We asked the staff to come help us in our room 3 different times, and were told someone would be right with us, but no one ever showed up.

Tarra at the front desk made this a wonderful experience. We arrived everything was good, when a storm blew in and we lost power. Anyway long story short.. I just want to call out the fact that during this complete debacle of confusion, and I mean confusion! She never lost control. We went down the road to eat at the Casino (only place with a generator) and that being said confirmed that Tarra was a real professional.

We were extremely comfortable in Elkotel and were amazed at the cleanliness and front desk staff. My boyfriend lost his hearing aid and the clerk raced upstairs and pulled apart the room. She did not find it - but she found my earring!! We returned.......and found the hearing aid near where we parked. We were stunned! But the clerk made our day!

I loved how clean the hotel was and how convenient it was to be across the street to a plaza which helped if you ever forgot to pack a last minute thing

Recently updated and has a newer feel to it. Hot breakfast was nice, parking and highway access was easy. I got the room at the end of the hall by the ice machine, was super noisy but otherwise nice. Employees we're super friendly and helpful.

Clean property, nice staff. Jazmine was kind enough to bring an extra pillow to our room very soon after we asked for one. Parking is easy, several places to eat within driving or walking distance. It was pretty quiet except for a train going through the area in the early morning. Helpful to have breakfast there. Thank you!

The hotel was great, unfortunately kind of far from food and drink options. Not normally an issue but no Uber or taxi service in town. Great safe place to stay.

It is a great location right off the freeway, the only issue I have is the cable connection is bad and buffers way too much other than that for the price it’s a good stay.

The front desk staff was super kind. The first room I stayed in had no hot water. As I was taking a cold shower the sink in the bathroom overflowed. They quickly escorted me and my dog to another room. Sub par breakfast. 5/10

The receptionist was great, very nice. The room is excellent. The only issue is the breakfast. We ate at 7:30 and there was no food. No one is watching the replenishing the food and coffee. The staff was asked about it but was so slow in adding more food. We waited another 30 minutes but still no one came to add more despite being asked about it.

When we arrived to check in at 3, no one was at the desk so i had to wait at least 5 minutes before they showed up. Overall the room was clean but it definitely was not a new hotel. The outlets by the bed didn't work. The breakfast eggs and sausage were not hot and the waffle maker wasn't turned on, which i didn't realize until after i filled it and flipped it to start. Not impressed.

The room was Great as was the rest if the hotel. I did have a couple of short falls. 1. The bath tube shower needed a mate as it was very slippery. 2. the Lighting in the bathroom not bright enough for my wife. 3. The airconditioner/ heat unit did not work. Told staff I was beat and I would live with it. I would and will book it again. Meal was great.
