Aurora Staples Inn is a historic Victorian home offering quiet, character-filled stays near downtown Stillwater, with many guests praising its walkable location, comfortable beds, spacious rooms with jetted tubs, and overall well maintained, clean interiors.
Entry is contactless and customer service is responsive, but on-site staff presence is limited and some found the experience impersonal. Breakfast is typically provided via vouchers at the nearby Lowell Inn; several enjoyed the food, while others were disappointed it was off-site or required advance reservations. Some quirks of the old house include occasional Wi‑Fi hiccups, rooms without full showers, temperature or noise issues, and a few comfort concerns. Expect a charming, mostly self-serve stay with historic ambience and distinctive rooms.

The carriage house was very spacious with a lovely tub and shower. The bed was very comfy. We never met the owners. That part felt kind of impersonal. They were out of ice (per text) and there was no water supplied in our room like there was in the house. Otherwise, the room had most of what we needed. The breakfast coupon was for a truly spectacular restaurant with incredible service.

There is no staff at this location. You let yourself in with a code. You had to go to the Lowell Inn for breakfast. No ice or wine glasses available. Our room had jetted tub but no shower. This is advertised as a bed and breakfast but since there were no host in my mind should not be advertised as such.

Contactless entry was easy with passcode. Only available beverages were a kureg coffee maker and bottled water in fridge. Did get voucher for breakfast at a nearby restaurant. Recommend for those who like victorian style B&Bs. Lovely old furniture and decor. Bed was king and very comfortable.

Had a nice, short stay celebrating our anniversary. Easy to find and nice to have parking provided. The contactless check-in was a breeze. Everything at the property appeared to be very well maintained, was clean and felt very Victorian. Enjoyed our stay in the Riverview suite. Loved the porch! Overall our stay was comfortable and quiet, just what we needed. Short walk to main street/lift bridge area.

Stay was very good. The hot tub in the room is actually a luke warm tub. However I kind of understand, as hot water would probably create moisture problems in the room over time. Very well kept historic house. The chocolates when entering, and in the room are a nice touch. Nice place!

We booked the St Croix Suite to celebrate a milestone birthday with mom/adult daughter. The room was lovely with a seating area and fireplace, so we settled in before walking to a nearby restaurant for dinner. It was dark, but we felt safe. A good hill climb, and more time relaxing. We didn't use the hot tub, but it is big enough for two. The bed was a King, and very comfortable. You do not feel movement of the other person, and we slept great. I would definitely book here again!! Also breakfast at the Lowell inn, just down the hill was delicious. We both ordered the eggs benedict and were not disappointed.

Service
Contactless entry with passcodes is straightforward, and communication and problem resolution were helpful for many, including refunds or early check-in. The lack of on-site staff felt impersonal to some and limited assistance for luggage.

This establishment is situated in an old restored home. It still has the original wooden floors, doors and fixtures. Internet access was very simple and worked perfectly. Location of this house is within walking distance of Main Street, home to many restaurants and antique shops. A walkable linear path over the lift bridge. Very good customer service. We experienced a power outage which lasted 5 hours. We received a partial refund. Even though it did not affect us, a tree was blown down during this recent storm. It was clear out before midday. Would recommend this place for quiet stay.

The property is quaint and rustic. Very close to downtown and very walkable to all things. If you are coming from out of town and Uber-ed from the airport as we did, there are little options to assist with luggage. They did ultimately let us check in early which was helpful. However, if you assume you can drop your bags prior to check in, that is not an option. It states BnB but the breakfast is at another hotel a few blocks away and you have to make reservations 24 hours in advance. Also, the check in check out is all done on your own. Feels more like a shared air bnb than a BnB. Nothing wrong with this but it’s not as transparent online.

We had such a great time. Loved the house! We were a bit disappointed at first when we found out they didn’t actually have the breakfast there. We had to leave and go to another inn for breakfast, but the Lowell Inn is historic and the food was amazing, plus it was just a five minute walk down the street. I would definitely stay again.

There is no staff at this location. You let yourself in with a code. You had to go to the Lowell Inn for breakfast. No ice or wine glasses available. Our room had jetted tub but no shower. This is advertised as a bed and breakfast but since there were no host in my mind should not be advertised as such.

This property is so charming and beautiful. It looks exactly like the pictures. The location is perfect. It's close to the main street in Stillwater. They made me the most amazing vegan breakfasts. She asked me on check in if I had any dietary restrictions and I was just planning on not having breakfast but when I mentioned I was vegan, she accommodated it on the spot and with delicious food. We could not have been happier with our stay.

Beautiful, stayed in the carriage house didn't make it into the main house. Was disappointed that the breakfast wasn't at the house. Breakfast was at the Lowell inn a couple blocks away reservation was required. Didn't see anywhere on the website that breakfast would be else where. Probably wouldn't have booked as it defeats the purpose for us.

Lovely room, we especially enjoyed time on our private sun porch. Walked to all the shops, restaurants and river walks. Complimentary breakfast at Lowell Inn was epic. Thank you we will be back!

Beautiful Victorian home full of antiques and charm. We stayed in the Giverny room, which was spacious, tastefully decorated and very clean. Check in was a breeze. Would definitely stay here again.

Everything about the room and property was beautiful, the craftsmanship was so meticulous, and the property was very clean and well maintained. Easy entry, peaceful surroundings, and an amazing turn of the century atmosphere!
