What guests think

Many guests praise friendly staff and clean, comfortable, well-equipped suites at Candlewood Suites Alexandria - Fort Belvoir by IHG, but ongoing renovations and some service lapses affected stays, with reports of noise, limited amenities, and occasional maintenance issues.

The location works well for visiting Mount Vernon and the DC area, though one review noted concerns about the immediate area’s safety. On-site dining is minimal, and several reviews said lobby coffee or snacks were unavailable during construction. Expect an extended-stay setup with kitchens and laundry, but check renovation status and on-site offerings before booking.

PROS: The room was nice. This exrended stay had a good supply of dishes, etc. The coffee in the lobby was fresh brewed and really good for "hotel coffee". --- CONS: No housekeeping. No hotel breakfast. (Just free fruit.) The walls were paper thin so I could hear slamming doors, feet stomping above me, crying babies next door, music from across the hall, and dogs barking from a room halfway down the hall. I was surrounded the entire time by a constant barrage of noise. When I ultimately complained, the desk clerk was sympathetic and contacted the dogs' owners and the barking stopped, but there wasn't much she could do about the rest so I will NOT return to this hotel because of the noise factor due to the 'thin walls'.

The property was undergoing renovation. I wished we had known this before booking. I am sure the renovations are necessary and will make a nicer property. However, we drove nearly 10 hours to get to this property and had less than an ideal experience due to the renovations.

Walked in and noticed that the area was being renovated. The beds were relatively comfortable. The bathroom smelled a bit of mildew. There were only two working dim lights. The kitchen light didn’t work at all. No breakfast or any snacks available at all. Had to go get extra wash clothes and towels. The worst was that when we got back from going out to have breakfast, we had been locked out of our room and hour before the check out time. All of our luggage was still in the room. No one ever showed up at the front desk, so the housekeeper let us in. Luckily, we made it to the airport on time. One good thing was that the gal at the desk was terrific when she was there.

Nice place. Computer problems at Check-in. Not sure if it was the Front Desk Agent's inability or not. She kept saying, "This computer hates me." Also, hot water issues. We had to notify the Front Desk of the problem. It was fixed in a timely manner.

This was disappointing. Our room had an odor. The person who checked us in barely spoke two words. No explanation of where coffee was, etc. the back door was propped open several times. I had to hunt down clean towels on day 2 even though we had been out of the room all day it was not cleaned. Our keys stopped working on day 2 and because the front desk was mainly unattended people were left outside unable to even get in the lobby early in the morning. This hotel needs a major update, furniture was peeling and scratched. Super disappointing for an IHG property. Also I did not get any ihg points for my stay.

After a 13 hour drive and a heck of a scare after realizing the original hotel we book was a filthy cesspool, the clerk who greeted us at 9:30pm 5-19 was an absolute angel! She was friendly and welcoming and most definitely calmed my nerves. The rooms and property were clean, comfortable, quiet and safe! I’m sorry I didn’t catch the desk clerks name but she turned our entire trip right side up and I thank her! It was my first stay at a Candlewood Suites but not my last!

Sounded shady. I cancelled my reservation. Went to different hotel. Could not talk to a human at Expedia. Horrible.
