What guests think

At OYO Hotel McAllen Airport South, travelers describe a budget, no-frills stay with a convenient airport-and-mall location, basic rooms that often include a microwave and fridge, and experiences that vary widely from very positive to notably problematic.

Many like the proximity to La Plaza Mall, the airport, and highways, with plenty of nearby dining and shops. Cleanliness feedback is inconsistent, with multiple reports of roaches or other bugs, musty or mildew odors, and occasional dirty linens alongside reviews praising very clean rooms. Comfort and amenities are basic: beds are often described as hard or worn, some air conditioners are very noisy, and Wi‑Fi can be unreliable or not reach certain rooms. Overall, it works as a low-cost, convenient base, but expect a recurring $100 cash deposit and variable service.

We've stayed at Oyo hotels/motels before. They are no frills but exceptionally good for the price. The room was comfortable, with a large tv, fridge (that works) and microwave. There was free wifi and a pool (which was like bath water). No breakfast, but what do you want for a cheap stay? The place was quiet and enjoyable.

We arrived a little earlier since our daughter was sick we had to wait outside in the hot sun with a sick child for two hours until the room was ready, and I was told if I cancelled i would forfeit all fees. The room smelled like mold and we found lice on the sheets, AC was broken/

BEWARE!! NOT WHAT YOU EXPECT! Upon arrival I was given a room on the first floor that was absolutely disgusting. Hand towels had dirty hand prints on them, the room smelled horrible of mildew, the floors were always wet, dirty and slippery. The molding on the ceiling had mold and dust growing across the top of it, the mirror was cracked and dirty. Also no hair dryer iron any of that until I complained and they moved me to a room upstairs which had the amenities advertised but still looked nothing like the photos. In my opinion this is a Motel with Hotel added at the end of its name. It’s nothing like a hotel and nothing like the photos in the pics. I wanted a refund so I could relocate the Expedia person who helped me said go talk to desk I went to desk they told me Expedia wouldn’t refund me bc I was in the room 2 hours on the phone with Expedia for 40 of these mins trying to figure out what to do to get out of this situation. Left a bad taste in my mouth with Expedia. If you are selling something through pictures you should get what’s advertised not the Bates Inn!

Good afternoon I did not like my stay at the hotel. The room had cockroaches that I killed at night and I told the front desk to fumigate and clean it well and they did not do it. Two nights were like that. I checked in detail and noticed that the cleaning of the room was not done properly. I did not feel comfortable.

I’ve really enjoyed my stay here. The queen bed rooms offer a great sense of privacy, which I really appreciated. The thicker walls make a noticeable difference—you don’t hear your neighbors, which adds to the comfort and peace. For the price, this place is honestly a great value. Clean, quiet, and private—exactly what I was looking for. I’ll definitely be coming back!

Arrived late at night about 10:30pm and the hotel's credit card system was down. I was told I can't have a room without $100 cash deposit. Firstly, hotels should never ask for cash from their guests. Secondly, hotels should have a back-up plan when the credit card system is not working. Third, I arrived via Uber and from outside the USA. Fourth, if I had arrived to the hotel at 10am or 2pm then maybe I could have gone to a bank ATM to deduct the $100 cash. Asking a guest to pay cash or expecting a guest to have sufficient cash is irresponsible business practice and very inconvenient. The employees need better customer service training as well.

I called this property several times when my flight was delayed. No one answered the phone. Others called several times as well with the same result. When someone finally answered the phone, we found out that my room had been cancelled and not by me. When asked if I would be charged for this room since they cancelled it, I was told that I would not be charged. I checked my statement. I was charged for the entire amount.

Horrible staff and extremely rude and unprofessional. I booked 3 weeks prior and my reservation was canceled without notice the day of my staying. The person in charge said Expedia had cancel but Expedia had no idea my reservation was cancel. Still had the audacity to charge me the cancelation fee. The person started blaming everyone. Apparently the Oyó Hotel corporate had asked him to cancel several rooms including mine but never gave me a notice or heads up. This hotel and their personnel totally ruined my birthday weekend. Never again will I book here or recommend it to anyone else to do book either. You could get a surprise once you have arrived. Took me almost 3 hours to get another room and settled down a deal with Expedia because of these people stupidity.

As for services near by, we couldn't ask for more. Restaurants, shops (La Plaza mall is 2 blocloks away) civic center, banks, pharmacies, etc. We totally recomment this hotel.
