What guests think

At Sleep Inn South Bend Airport, reviews describe a budget stay with convenient airport access but frequent issues: a long-closed pool, noticeable odors, inconsistent cleanliness, and mixed service experiences overall.

Rooms are generally dated with recurring maintenance problems such as weak or nonworking AC, faulty toilets and fixtures, and small pillows, though a number of guests did find the beds comfortable. The location is very close to the airport, but several reviews noted overgrown grounds, an abandoned feel, and occasional loitering that made some travelers uneasy. Expect a basic, low-cost stopover where convenience may outweigh comfort and amenities.

The pictures are nothing like real life! The hotel it self is dirty. The elevator makes a noise. The room walls were dirty like someone slashes Champaign on them. The hallways are super hot and they smell horrible. The pool was not in service and that was not noted on the description or else I would’ve not booked. When I asked front desk he said it had not been in service for a while now. Breakfast didn’t not look appetizing where the salt and condiments were it was dirty.

I am waiting for a call from the manager, because one of the 2 rooms I booked was for my daughter and grandkids. is was not cleaned very well. the towels issued was yellow, no real pillows on the beds. Also the poll was out of service , the ice machines didn't work, the vending machines was empty not stocked. to say the least.

The property literally stinks. It’s some sort of mixture of just dirtiness and stinky people smell. The common area in particular. We got to our room and it smelled like cigarettes. They said there were no rooms available but I pushed and they “found” one (it was a lot bigger and they probably just didn’t want to give it to us). The pool was drained, the elevator didn’t work, and the tub in the new room was gross and plugged up. It was bad. My advice: avoid!

We stayed here because it was close to the airport for a morning flight. This place does not look like the pictures. Looks deserted, like no one cares for it from the parking lot. Badly in need of a renovation-comforter had a cigarette hole, lobby smelled like industrial cleaner, room needed repairs. Pillows were old and shower curtain doesn’t reach the ground so floor gets wet. Pool closed by health department. Staff was nice enough and someone drove us 1 minute to airport in morning.

The pool was closed by the Health Department. There was no notification to us that this happened, the biggest reason we chose this place was for the pool. The entire building smelled bad, and the elevator inspection expired over a year ago. Overall, I did not feel very safe staying there and was not confident that the rooms were properly cleaned with all the other areas of poor standing. We left the room and decided to go only about 15 mins away and find a much nicer hotel. Not worth the money especially in my case where I paid for this nasty place and no refund.

Not an enjoyable stay. The hotel smells horribly like old smoke and mildew. Honestly it gave me an headache within an hour of being there. Everything needs redone. Furniture is extremely run down and stained. Telephone didn’t work, fridge didn’t work, A/C barely worked. Appeared to be blood stains on the walls. Stained sheets. Very uncomfortable block pillows that I’ve never seen in any hotel before. Very noisy throughout the night making for an overall horrible stay. Spend the extra $ and stay elsewhere. I wish I did.

Got a decent price on a stay super close to SB airport. Easy parking and convenient location were the strong points. The room was mostly clean, but the carpet needed some attention - there was evidence of a previous spill or stain that tracked through a good part of the entrance area. Also, the handheld showerhead had an issue - it would not stay up in a fixed position on its own. All in all it was fine...

I arrived at the hotel very late. There was no one at the desk to check me in and give me a key. I rang the bell on the counter many times, but no one appeared. Twenty minutes or so later, an employee came in through the front door. He said he was sorry, that he had to shuttle someone in from the airport. The next day I was trying to make a local call from the phone in my room. I dialed four times, but the calls wouldn't go through. I called reception for help. The employee said he was sorry, but he couldn't help me complete the calls. The phone itself was old and not very clean. I'd say the same for the sofa in the room. Fortunately the sheets seemed fresh and clean as was the bathroom. It is a budget hotel, so I guess you get what you pay for.

Although no one was in line in front of us when when we arrived, it took 15-20 minutes to get us a key to our room. The first room we were goven hadn’t been cleaned. We were taken to two other rooms, one which also wasn’t cleaned, and one which smelled of smoke. 45-60 minutes after arriving we were finally on a clean room, though it was quite cold and took another 20-30 minutes to warm up.

The hotel was nothing like the pictures. We thought it was an abandoned property when we pulled in. Overgrown weeds, cigarette butts & trash all around. There was only 1 car in the parking lot. When we walked in, the lobby/dining area was dark and all the chairs were put up. The pool looked bad and then we were told it was closed for maintenance. The Sleep Inn was terrible. One of the reason why we booked this place was because of the indoor pool which when we arrived wasn’t an indoor pool. The place was not very clean and one of our friends had to request for another room because it smelled and had flies in the room. I never been to a place where they place the coffee maker inside of the restroom. The furniture in the room was very old and disgusting. We went down for breakfast and my husband was eating yogurt and he said that it tasted funny and we realized that it was expired. I would not recommend this place to anyone and wish I could get my money back from this place for false advertising and we wanted to talk with the manager and they kept telling us that the manager wasn’t around.

We didn't go to breakfast until 8:30. The eggs were very dried out, there was no orange juice, the waffle iron was turned off. There were not many guests, and it appeared they did not stock very many breakfast items. Overall, it was adequate, but could use some improvement.
