At Motel 6-Bakersfield, CA - East, reviews describe a budget stop with convenient freeway access, but also frequent complaints that often overshadow the low price, particularly regarding overall upkeep and the experience on and around the property.

Cleanliness is a recurring issue, with reports of dirty rooms, pests, smoke odors, and missing or stained linens. Rooms feel worn, with many citing uncomfortable mattresses, unreliable A/C or heat, broken locks or TVs, spotty Wi-Fi, and an occasionally closed or unclean pool. Service is mixed: some praise friendly, fast check-ins, while others note rude interactions, booking errors, and slow responses. The surrounding area is often described as unsafe or noisy; expect a very basic stay where price takes priority over comfort.

The staff are great. The property is horrid. There are literally dozens of stray cats everywhere. There are homeless people sleeping within the hotel on the grounds. There are nonworking doors and scary stairs. This place needs a security guard or something as it is not safe.

Stayed 1 night to rest on our way to Vegas. The ladies working the front desk were very nice and helped recommend food options. The room was clean and comfortable. Everything worked. Didn't use the pool but there were lots of families using it. Good place to stop & rest.

The area felt unsafe and was dirty and poorly maintained. I was worried about my car getting broken into all night (judging by the people hanging outside in the parking lot). We chose Motel 6 because it is pet friendly and accessible- we have stayed at a few of them before, knowing it is a motel and it was cheap we had low expectations. However, the property still disappointed us. It was dirty, loud, and felt unsafe. We felt the need to check for bed bugs because it did not seem well maintained. It was really loud outside. We woke up continuously through the night because of noise from people in the parking lot and cars passing by. The bed was uncomfortable and the nonsmoking room smelled like smoke. Waited about 1 hour to check in because when we arrived front desk was closed then there was a line of people waiting for their needs to be met as well. We only stayed one night and our interactions with staff were limited therefore no complaints about their costumer service except the wait time but I assume she was on break. Would not recommend this stay for families or more than 1 night stays.

The outside of the property is very dirty. It appears that people live here. We had to request a second room because our first smelled like cigarettes and was filthy. Our second room was better, but still dirty. I am not one who needs a fancy hotel, but I believe motel 6 could have done much better. The facility outside was gross and I felt unsafe. The manager took random breaks and was no where to be found most of the time. Overall, I would not stay here again. I had my two children with me and I was not happy.

I woke up at 2 AM and went to grab something off a nightstand and there were two roaches on it then I went near the fridge raider area and there were five or six roaches, crawling all over there as well.

At arrival we got the keys to a room which was already occupied. The next room we got had more than 100 flies in it. It was dirty. Room door was messed up, curtains having big holes and about to fall down. The beds were both subsided where the previous guests had been sleeping. Really dirty outside. People sleeping outside the garbage containers. We arrived late and didnt have any options than to stay. The worst motel I have ever seen.

Housekeeping gets 5 stars because the room was super clean with a citrus spray. There’s no fridge or microwave in room 241, not sure about the rest- Is it the ventilation or the walls are made of parchment paper? The pack of cigarettes they smoking next door came directly in my room. And the post binge drinking vomitus next door was loud and clear in my room. I can literally hear their stomachs doing tripple flips in the toilet bowl!

The sink drain was not working properly, and the water flow was sparse. There was no drain plug for the bathtub. The room was clean, but standard amenities like shampoo, conditioner, and carpet were missing. Many of the cable TV channels had not been paid for and were unavailable. Around 9 AM, somebody who did not announce themselves attempted three or four times to open my hotel room and enter. When I yelled at them to go away and to stop bothering me, someone asked me if I was supposed to be in that room. I told them that I was registered in the room and that I was not yet checking out. (Check out time was 11 AM.) As I was leaving, the manager came to me to explain that the staff had not properly registered the room in my name and so the morning staff was confused. I was glad he was trying to clarify the situation, but I told him that it was completely unacceptable for people to try to enter the room unannounced when it was obviously locked and a guest was still using the room. Very unprofessional behavior.

I was woke up every morning and informed that I didn’t pay for my stay. When I booked my stay onli e for a week in advance. I paid with my credit card foe my stay. They kept checking me out of my room every day. They also checked in another party and told me that they would find me another room. I had all of my things in my room and they said that I am not registered in the room that I checked into the previous day. They wouldn’t stop banging on my door and insisting that I didn’t pay for my room when I did.

As soon as I got there I wanted to check in at the front desk and the person told me “there was no rooms “ I told her I had made reservations and she said “NO , all the rooms are booked” didn’t even bother to look at my phone screen for the reservations details . I was walking out already confused and telling my family in the car that we had to find another place. The front desk person came outside and finally asked my name and then apologized and said I was in the system . As soon as I walked in the room it smelled like cigarettes. . I couldn’t get a refund for this place so I had to stay . They had loud dogs staying next to us . Arguments happening outside my door at 2 in the morning. There was a lot of suspicious people outside coming in and out of these rooms. It was a scary experience , didn’t get any rest
