At Sonesta Select Kansas City South Overland Park, guests frequently mention clean, comfortable rooms and friendly staff, but feedback is mixed overall due to inconsistent housekeeping, limited breakfast, surprise fees, and occasional maintenance or check‑in issues.

Rooms are often spacious with comfy beds and balconies, though some note thin walls, dated furniture, and sporadic problems with A/C, TVs, or fixtures. The area is quiet and near the highway, but several reviews report vehicle break‑ins and limited nearby dining. Plan for a convenient stay with some trade‑offs.

The hotel was very nice and in a quiet area right off the highway. The bed was very comfortable and the room had a balcony with a large slider door which let in a lot of natural light. The pool was nice and had a lot of tables/chairs. The breakfast options for purchase were quite limited, we ended up going out for breakfast. Overall, would definitely stay here again.

Although I didn't have an opportunity this time to enjoy them, I thought it was nice to have a balcony with chairs and a table as well as a courtyard in the back. Both nice places to unwind at any time of the day. The lobby is inviting, and the spaces are very nice.

I was there Sunday night, Monday night, and Tuesday morning on a business trip. I always choose a hotel with a pool on business trips so I can relax before and after business. They advertise the pool as an amenity, but when I went to use it, it was closed for repairs. At no point during my stay was it open. If I had known it did NOT have a functioning pool, I would have stayed somewhere else. I asked for a partial refund, and they refused saying it was open on Sunday. First, it was NOT open when I went on Sunday, and it ASSUREDLY was not open at all on Monday or Tuesday morning. So not only are they advertising an amenity they do not have, they are refusing to respond to reasonable requests to correct the situation.

Stayed here the day after the huge storm that dumped 11 to 14 inches of snow on the city. Streets and the parking lot was only minimally cleared. Actually the local street wasn't cleared at all but the hotel lot had a decent path around it. Couldn't chance going anywhere else since i was already stuck once on the city road. Nobodies fault, but it made exploring difficult. Pantry store was picked over but the front desk was very nice about the offer on what they did have. Pool was closed, but explains the fabulous deal on got on such a well appointed room and hotel. Worth checking out! Especially with nicer roads and a 4-wheel drive!

Dirtiest hotel I've ever stayed in. Walked in to a huge white stain down the side of the couch, large dark stains on the couch cushions, stained and dirty carpet in the hallways, white smudge hand mark smears in the elevator. Trash piled up in the hallway trash cans. Stains on the couches in the lobby. Ice cold swimming pool they don't heat to an adequate temperature for your children to swim in.

The rooms were not as clean. When we went back to the front desk to let them know if they gave us another room that was more filthy so we decided to take the first room. They gave us an extra blanket to put over the couch because it was very stained and dirty. I Spoke with Jeremy/ who never wanted to take care of any of my needs. It was like he was always giving me an argumentative statement or answer if I asked a question. I will never stay there again. I have stayed at Sonesta before other locations with great I’m convinced the Kansas location is not cared for most of Of this dad sits on their phones and like to talk on speakerphone while they are cleaning or just walking around very unprofessional. I asked several times for my free breakfast. I also told them it was in the package. They told me several times I would not be eating the breakfast it’s not offer to me. I would have to pay $12 a day. So they didn’t even give me my free breakfast. I want my refund. I will never stays with Sonesta again.

The cleanliness of the room brought this stay down to 3 stars. The hotel needs new linens and a vacuum. The bed sheets had minor stains, so did the shower curtain, and there was hair and chunks of stuff all throughout the room. The bed comfort was too soft for me. The balcony was really dusty; we didn't go out there. The towels were scratchy. We kept our shoes on the whole time. The service, however, was good to great. They were in the middle of switching systems, so there were issues behind the scenes that led to hiccups with room keys, but that was not a big deal. One woman who worked the desk was absolutely amazing—just her energy and effectiveness. Her service alone brought this review up from 2 stars. The hotel itself, especially the main areas, were nice. TV was great and there was lots of good channels. And I loved that there were a lot of lights and plugs in the room. Don't bother with the breakfast or the coffee.

Hotel is convenient off highway and easy to access, some good eating options close by. The air conditioning didn’t work too well, set to 65 but still felt too hot, also fridge was very small and didn’t keep anything cool. There is a balcony and couple chairs for each room so that was nice as long the weather is good you can sit out there and have a few drinks or smoke. Overall if you just need a place to sleep and shower it’s worth the price.

We did not receive the room we paid for due to an overbooking of the hotel. We then were given a king room instead of the two queen room which had the heat on and was hot when we entered the room. The team member trying to check us in was brand new and did not know how to change the room so we had to wait over an hour for a team member to come in and show her how to switch us rooms. They offered us breakfast but we had another commitment and could not use the breakfast. They told us there was nothing else they could do for us since we booked through hotels.com

We were notified by email a couple of hours before check in that Sonesta would not be Able to honor our confirmation because of over booking . We had traveled to see my grandsons soccer game, which I was unable to see after calling them and being on the phone over 2 hours while they looked for another hotel. They tried to put us in Extended stay, which I refused. They then said they had Springhill Suites about 2.4 miles from our location. After holding for another 40 minutes they said they sent a cf no for Springhill Suites which was a different one then we talked about, which was about 11 mikes from our desired location. The new hotel was very nice, but I’m wondering what a CONFIRMED reservation means if they can do this for I bout any consequences. Needless to say I was NOT happy. Missed the reason I traveled in the first place.

Our first room smelt like cigarette smoke and had cigarette ashes on the balcony. When we told the front desk, she said there were no spare rooms and she would spray some air freshener. That was not going to help. When we complained again, she finally moved us and was very rude. She said she’d put a ‘smoker’ in that room. Our 2nd room was ok. Service and room cleanliness is not worth the price. There are also a few reviews about bugs, fleas, and bed bugs. We did not see any bugs or issues there. But we won’t go back.

I was at your hotel for a 6 nights stay while I was waiting to move into my house. I asked for Housekeeping to come in on the third day to freshen up the room with emptying the trash, restocking the towels and making the bed. This did not occur and I had to ask Tuesday evening again. Upon checking in and entering my room I discovered there was no shampoo or body soap in the dispensers so I went down to the front desk right away to let them know and no one ever refilled them. I had to go buy soap and shampoo for my stay. Once housekeeping came they left a pile of dirty towels outside my room that were still there when I checked out on Thursday morning. ls are not cheap to stay in and I likely would not stay in yours again nor would I recommend it to anyone.

Check-in and out were great. They ladies up front were very nice. The room had a little bit of a smell to it. A little bit outdated not bad though. We stayed for 2 nights so I would’ve liked more then 2 bath towels. We were placed by one of the conference rooms and they had the door open being extremely loud for at least 2 hours. Then proceeded to stand in the hallway in front of our door being loud for about 30 minutes at night. We heard every word they said. So, walls are definitely thin. When we were packing our car we had other people staying there come up and inform us that there were a few people out at night trying to break into our car. That they saw it from their balcony and yelled at them. So luckily we didn’t have our car broken into. With that being said I’m not to sure how decent the area is. The hotel stay itself wasn’t bad.

Overall, this hotel wasn’t bad. There were a few minor inconveniences such as no free breakfast, and the breakfast they did serve was pretty pricey, no microwave in the room, and the soap was very cheap. Other than that, the pool was decent and we had the pool to ourselves almost the entire time we were there so that was cool. I liked the courtyard and the patios, and the number of entrances to get into the building based on where you parked was very convenient.
