What guests think

Reviews of Howard Johnson by Wyndham Galveston describe a budget, older motel that many cruise travelers use for quick overnights, praising friendly staff, easy access to the port, and reasonable prices despite dated facilities.

Several guests mention on-site cruise parking for a fee, and many pre-cruise travelers use rideshares to the terminal. Room quality and cleanliness are inconsistent, with reports ranging from clean and comfortable to worn furnishings, sticky floors, and maintenance issues. Noise from nearby train tracks and truck parking affects some stays, and the grab-and-go breakfast is very limited. Overall, expect a simple, no-frills stopover convenient for the cruise port.

Great place to stay for a cruise! Cruise parking is available for $5 a day if you book the night before. The car was safe and the staff was very helpful! Just Uber to the Cruise port for $15 .

Extremely shopworn and in a sketchy area. Said we could park free for our cruise…got there and had changed their policy. Panicked since night before our cruise and all lots were full! They did allow us to go ahead and park for $10 a night which was no big deal but we weren’t the only party they didn’t tell about their new policy. Will never stay there again

Did the job for a pre cruise night stay. No frills. Just a room and a parking space. Tv worked and the bathroom was adequate. The motel is dated but upgraded where it counts - the bed and flooring.

It is ok, the staff is very friendly. The room is clean, the mattress are hard for me but my husband likes it. The train passes behind the hotel I hope I don’t have to hear it after midnight, but my husband doesn’t care he will not hear it anyway. What I love about this hotel is that we can leave the vehicle while we are in the cruise. I will stay again and yes, I recommend this hotel.

Cheap and courteous! Next to train track but it’s not that loud when the train goes by. $10/day parking to leave vehicle while cruising and Uber to port! Worth the money and peace of mind to arrive to port a day early. They also have access to print my boarding pass I left at home.

We last minute decided we to go to Galveston for the weekend. HJ staff was friendly. Breakfast is oatmeal, cereal and muffins. The room we clean, HOWEVER, the carpet was not. The staff were nice but there was hair on our sheets. We requested new sheets and changed them ourselves. The mattresses were very badly stained. The toilet valve was leaking on the floor. They offered to refund us and check out but it was 9pm and we had travelled all day. $81 was pricey for what was offered.

Well I checked out on the 27th , was told the incidental fee was refundable but now that I checked out I have not received it yet. That 50.00 was to go back to my mom and I know there was no damage to the room as I know how to take care of things but I need that 50.00 to give back to my mom.igs not right to not be picking up the phone as I am needing that money back and why tell me it's refundable when I checked out and not even giving it back

First of all when I went to check in I was greeted with a very rude manager who immediately started asking for my ID and debit card. When I explained I didn’t have a debit card for deposit as the room was already paid for. The manger then informed me he was going to refuse me access to my room unless I paid him $50 cash or by debit card. My son ended up paypaling me the money. When I asked when it would be refunded back I was told 3-9 business days! I asked about breakfast and was told it would consist of muffin, oat mill and coffee. I asked if they offered juice and was told no. When I got to the room I was met with an overwhelming smell of laundry soap or bleach! The bathroom had absolutely no tub as you can see in the pics. The room was nowhere close to what was represented on hotels.com! It was awful! You look out the window and you see train tracks and a utility tower. 2am comes around and I am woke up by a car alarm! My son had booked this hotel for me so I could get away which I never do and was charged almost $100 for this piece of crap!! This was by far a horrible experience! Do not stay here!

I'm used to choosing to stay at less than stellar places for a night, mainly for economics. This time though, I honestly considered just booking somewhere else after walkinh into the room. The floor was sticky. There were odd red splotchy stains on some walls. The sheets and blankets had holes in them. The free cruise parking advertised had been painted over on the sign and we were quoted a pretty non-competitive price minus transportation (which would result in paying more than at the port). The breakfast amounted to a few apples, a bottle of orange juice, a gallon of milk, a couple coffee urns, and a handful of questionable pastry-like things. I just drove to IHoP. I almost never, ever, bother with reviews, and I typically take negative ones with a grain of salt, but this time... well, it's not quite abandon all hope ye who enter here but... buyer beware.
