The Palace Hotel

Beautiful old building and nicely appointed rooms. (Thirty steps to the second floor though.) The room was clean, had a fridge, microwave and coffee maker (very convenient). Highly recommended!

Great location. You can walk the entire old town and depending on how many shops and amazing restaurants you want to check out you can go two days without a car. They have a gravel parking lot in the back. Most everything, including the building, is either a real antique, a reproduction or a throwback style. The second floor has an open library/game room. As someone who almost always selects new hotels, I was fine once I accepted that the building is old by American standards, and I actually only found one place in the building where dust had collected. Beware that you will have to lug everything up 2-3 flights of stairs. Bed was comfy enough, real coffee cups and glasses in the room.

Palace Hotel Port Townsend is centrally located on Main Street. It is a charming old hotel with friendly staff. Be aware there is no elevator (as in many old & historic hotels). We asked for help with our luggage and it was provided. There is parking in the back. It was perfect for us!

Very nice hotel. Like staying in a museum. Very conveniently located in town. Beautiful architecture. Lots of stairs snd no elevator. If mobility is a issue make sure to ask for the secpnd floor. Would highly recommend.

This is a well maintained and appointed hotel. However the fact that there are no ground floor rooms and no elevator does not reasonably describe its layout. To get to any room requires going up at least 31 steps. The 3rd floor is another 28 steps. There is no porter offered to take suitcases to your room or to help down at departure.

The Palace hotel is a really nice, clean place to stay and the genuine Victorian feel of each room is a bonus. If you've never stayed at the Palace, each room is unique and tastefully decorated and outfitted to match the Victorian atmosphere. The staff are friendly and easy to work with. There is no elevator, so that might be a problem as the stairs are quite imposing. However, the location in downtown PT along the waterfront, where shops, restaurants and watering holes are within easy walking distance, is another bonus. Parking is always a little tough in PT, especially on a weekend, but the Palace has exclusive parking around back for their residents. We have recommended to friends and they have also enjoyed their stay.

Amazing staff and right in the middle of the great downtown area. The lack of an elevator may be a problem for some. 59 stairs to the third floor- no bell hops to help with luggage. We were fine, but just be aware. The gal who does the laundry is about the nicest employee we’ve met at any of the places we’ve been on this trip to the PNW!

Located right in the middle of town, walkable to everything. Very atmospheric; feels like you have time travelled to 1880, but with all the modern conveniences. No elevator so be prepared for lots of stairs if you are on the third floor.

Beautiful historic hotel situated in the middle of town. The sittting areas in the mezzanine and 2nd floor were wonderful for hanging out.

The only problem was parking. The lot was full when I arrived. I was told there are 26 rooms and 19 parking places and that I had not been guaranteed parking, and that I should use 2 hour parking on the street. Frustrating. To be fair, I did receive a call within that two hours to inform me that 2 parking spots had opened up. Better to let guests know about this up front so it isn’t an unpleasant surprise which puts both guest and staff in an uncomfortable position.

Wonderful experience; immaculate, clean and spacious room. Kitchen area well equipped. Staff at the reception desk were very helpful, chatty and charming. Easy parking, excellent location.

It looks like a charming hotel in the pictures but the reality is quite different. Our room was #5. The carpet, paint, decor, curtains, shower... all old, tired and not the cleanest. The front desk clerk was unfriendly. I wouldn't recommend.

This is such a beautiful antique-filled hotel. It was very clean and tidy and the staff was extremely accommodating and pleasant. The view of the bay from our room was stunning and the location was right in the heart of downtown, but we did not hear traffic or street noise at night (not that there is much of that in Port Townsend anyway!) Great stay!

Renovated or modernized historic hotels can sometimes have a bit of a mold smell with questionable bathroom cleanliness while The Palace is not like that at all. Beautifully clean throughout. Extras include a wonderful staff, high 1800's ceilings and stained-glass windowpanes here and there. Winning location. Free parking, fast free wi-fi. We will return. Highly recommend.

This is an absolutely beautiful hotel! They do a pre-check-in, which made the actual check in very quick. The bed was comfortable, the room was very clean, and the kitchen was equipped with the small things I needed (like a fork). I can't say enough good things about my stay.

Beautiful old building! The rooms are really nicely decorated for the time period- nice community sitting rooms too. The employees are kind and professional. The sound carries through the walls. You can almost hear word for word conversations. Nobody was up super late but it lasts until 10:30 pm or so. There was a box fan in the room which we used as white noise and fixed the problem. The hotel is close to everything so super convenient. Our room was over the pizza place so our room smelled like pizza but there was a weird old smell in the room too, esp the bathroom- a slight musty cabbage smell. Luckily it was nice weather and opening the windows helped al lot.

Perfectly preserved turn-of-the-20th century property. Decorated with antiques, but nothing felt too precious. The hotel has several cozy public areas (a library!) and is just in general a joy to be in. Our room faced Water Street and had storm windows in, which helped mitigate street noise pretty effectively. Also: It was *clean*. In spite of all the old decor, there was no dust anywhere, no old grime, and no odors. Really excellent.

The chicken process was interesting because nobody asked for our IDs and then you have to carry your suitcase up the 20 foot flight of stairs and when we woke up, we had some roaches running around so I would say overall it’s not what we expected

Our room reminded me of staying in an original Victorian flat in San Francisco. The hotel is historical with interesting features. It’s located in a great walkable area but being some ear plugs if you don’t want to wake up to seagulls on an early summer morning!

The room smells like pizza due to having a pizzeria downstairs. Cleaning lady gave us a spray which helped a little. Anyways ask for a room on the street side which may help with smell.

We loved this historic hotel located right in the heart of Port Townsend. We stayed for two nights in one of the loft rooms which was a nice modern room with a kitchenette. Everything was clean and we had all the items we needed on site. Check-in was easy and the front desk employee was very friendly and clearly loves the hotel. We had fun walking through and sitting in the Victorian-style sitting areas and checking out all the fun historic features of the building. We appreciated the free parking lot out back, but one night when it was full we still easily found a spot to park right outside. Port Townsend gets pretty quiet after 5pm, but there are still plenty of restaurants near by. We ate out one night and used the kitchen to warm up some food we grabbed at one of the nearby grocery stores another night. This was a great base for sightseeing and was also very comfortable for evenings relaxing in our room. We would happily stay here again any time. Can't recommend highly enough! (Most rooms do not have A/C, which the hotel did send us an email about before our visit to make sure we knew what to expect. There were a number of fans in the room. Our loft suite was on the back of the building with direct afternoon sunshine, so it would have been pretty warm even with the fans in the room, so we were very pleasantly surprised to find a portable AC unit in the room. I do not think these are in all of the rooms though, as the water-facing rooms would be much cooler).

This place is amazing. We had a very spacious suite with comfortable beds. There is a small library down the hall which everyone enjoyed. Very awesome place in walking distance to the water, pier, restaurants and shopping. The only thing we had trouble with was getting our luggage (approx 50 pounds) up the steps. We struggled with that coming and going. Otherwise, such a great place and the staff were very friendly and were very accommodating to help us add a second night on to our trip. Highly recommend if you are going into Port Townsend - whale watching trip with Puget Sound Express which is walking distance away.

Quirky but a great experience especially if you can get the new loft rooms with views! Absolutely loved it!

This hotel is so charming and quiet. Our room was very clean and spacious and I LOVED the claw foot tub. There are many things to enjoy about this place except that the bed was absolutely terrible. It was obviously quite old, had a huge dip on one side that sagged down and you could feel the springs. If it wasn’t for the bed I’d have given it 5 stars!

This is a delightful hotel right in the heart of Pt Townsend. All the heritage features of the building have been maintained making this a unique hotel experience. Our room was spacious, comfortable and well furnished. My only complainants are the wifi was pretty poor and the TV is pretty small, especially given the size of the room and the distance to the bed.

The hotel is quite charming - it has very interesting decor and I mean interesting in the literal way - it is Victorian in every little detail (lamps, tables, sitting rooms, etc.) except for, importantly, modern bathroom (and other) fixtures from a convenience standpoint. While it lacks modern air conditioning, portable AC and fans were helpful. The location is unbeatable for strolling Port Townsend; and the staff is friendly and helpful. There are two major flies in the ointment, however - there is NO ELEVATOR and no modern AC (and fans are noisy). Another issue could be street noise so, paradoxically, the view rooms can be very much so if noise is a concern. I admit that given my age and level of infirmity, being on the 3rd floor meant accessing my room was difficult, and with luggage, a struggle. For me that would be a deal breaker - I would not stay here again. That said, if you are quite fit for walking stairs, and carrying luggage, this hotel is about the most charming option I can imagine.

The bed being on a separate level was odd. The steps were very steep.

A gem of a hotel in the heart of Port Townsend. Spacious rooms ( with a good size kitchen!), soft towels and sheets, plenty of hot water, very clean. Only thing to be mindful of is that it does have significant stairs ( no elevator ) so if you have mobility issues chooss a room in the lower floor. Wonderful staff and a yrue historic charm. Two minute drive to the Whidbey Island ferry!

Wonderful Victorian era hotel. Friendly and efficient staff, Perfect room in a beautiful hotel. Stayed in different rooms over several days. All were great. Kudo's to hotel staff, Michael, Jan Marie, and everyone we met.

This place is old! If that’s your thing you’ll love it. It was clean. No elevator so you have to lug your suitcases/bags up the stairs. I found it a little creepy. TVs were tiny. Guy at the front desk at night was a little odd to ne too. I prefer more updated amenities.

Very cute historic hotel in the center of town. Lovely sitting areas in the hallway, and beautiful Christmas displays. Central to everything. But….. no elevator and nobody to help with luggage up the stairs. Our room (facing the back alley) had a very strong fried food smell, probably from the restaurant next door. All of our clothes had this smell stuck to them when we returned home. We asked at the front desk how we could ensure our room is made up and were told to hang the make-up-room sign at the door, which we did. Room wasn’t touched. Next day, we asked housekeeping directly - again, room wasn’t touched, although they did bring fresh towels.

The Palace Hotel is our go-to lodging in Port Townsend. Friendly staff, comfy room and walking distance to all of downtown. We'll be back!

First know that there is no elevator in the building. There are steep steps to the first floor and more for the second and third. Our room was a suite, well maintained and clean. The bedroom was up a set of steep slippery carpeted steps. The bathroom was down stairs. Not good for an older couple who get up in the middle of the night. Though I tried to change rooms there were no others available that night. My husband fell down the stairs in the morning. The front desk didn't think anything of it.

This hotel is the best location to most everything offered in Port Townsend. The staff was super helpful with all my requests and needs. The hotel is really old school in decor and design, which was pretty cool for a vacation stop. I highly recommend The Palace Hotel!

Charming hotel in a Victorian building. As one would expect, the age of the building leads to some creaks but this didn’t bother us. The owners have done well to keep the rooms comfortable. Located right on Port Townsend's Water Street, there are multiple options for fooding and shopping a minute's walk away.

Really enjoyed our stay! You will need to be prepared for stairs though. Right in the heart of everything to do in PT and walking distance end to end. Absolutely recommend

Interesting hotel with lots of history and charm. The place had character and seemed authentic. Right in the middle of historic Port Townsend. Walking distance to everything. Very dog friendly.

We enjoyed our stay at the Palace Hotel. Can't beat the very walkable location, free parking, the Victorian decor and the hotel's place in Pt history (ask the front desk for the history sheet). One warning: Bring your earplugs. We were located in a front room and the windows did little to block the noise from Water Street. Very quiet at night, but the early morning sounds featured trucks backing up, foghorns and screaming seagulls.

Very cool Victorian hotel in Port Townsend. The hotel staff was friendly and helpful. The location is perfect as you can easily walk around the downtown area. There is also a free local bus that makes stops all around the area. We never saw any ghosts but were intrigued by the rich history of the hotel and Port Townsend in general. There is also a great bottle shop in the same building with a fantastic wine selection. If you're hungry, go to the other side of the hotel and have great pizza and soup. We loved visiting this town and we're so glad we stayed at the Palace Hotel.

Perfect location to walk around downtown PT. Bonus points for being right across the street from Better Living Through Coffee!

It was a very comfortable stay at the Palace hotel. The room was well decorated in Victorian style and fun to be in. It had a great view of the water. Friendly staff there’s a little bit of noise till 10 o’clock but then it gets quiet at night. Very close to restaurants bars, and activities. Highly recommended.

We made the Palace Hotel our base for three nights while celebrating recent nuptials. This Victorian building is full of character with high ceilings and very generous lounging spaces. Quiet and comfortable for a good night’s sleep. All meals are taken in cafes and restaurants a few steps away. Some require reservations a few weeks in advance because of demand in high season. World class hiking 1.5hr drive away. Very pleasant walks around town and port for non-hikers. Day trips on the ferry. Bring wind breakers!

Stayed here overnight. Staff was nice. Hotel is interesting because its split into two parts. Lots of the hotel seems original, looks very victorian. On their websites, some rooms seem updated, however where we were located was "old-fashioned' with modern amenities like coffee pot and TV. Right downtown and across from the water and two great coffee shops.

Great place to stay right in downtown. Rooms are quaint with modern fittings including large screen LED TVs. Plenty of cozy nooks around the hotel to sit and enjoy reading or chatting with friends. Unfortunately, no breakfast served, would be nice if they had a light option with boiled eggs fruit or other light low carb fare..

The property has a lot of charm and character. After booking, we discovered it was haunted, which added a unique touch to our stay! The views are stunning, especially if you choose a room facing the ocean on the 2nd or 3rd floors. However, early morning deliveries can make it a bit noisy. Our room was fairly big with a separate sleeping area with two beds. While the beds were advertised as queen-size, they felt more like full-size. Beyond that, the room was solid and met our needs. The staff was friendly and helpful, though it would have been great if they had pet-friendly recommendations ready or information about what’s open on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day or any holidays in general. There’s no restaurant on the property, but there are plenty of options nearby within walking distance—assuming it’s not a holiday. A Safeway is just a few miles away, and there are lots of local shops just steps from the property. Note that there are no elevators, and the stairs are quite steep. This wasn’t an issue for us, but it could be a challenge for others with mobility concerns. The hotel is dog-friendly, which we appreciated, though there is a $40 per night pet fee. On the plus side, parking is free, which helps balance out the extra cost for pets.
