What guests think

Super 8 by Wyndham Harlingen TX draws mixed feedback: travellers appreciate the convenient location near the airport, highways, and shops, generally friendly front desk interactions, and budget value, while rooms and amenities are basic and better suited to short stays.

Multiple reviews cite musty or mildew smells, dated spaces, and maintenance issues such as inconsistent air conditioning, broken fixtures or TVs, and occasional elevator or laundry problems; a few guests also reported pests, including bedbugs and roaches. Breakfast is simple—often waffles and coffee—with mixed satisfaction, and amenities like the pool or Wi‑Fi are inconsistent, though some guests mentioned fenced or safe parking. Expect a budget, no‑frills stay where convenience competes with condition.

It's an older building but clean and seems well maintained. The woman at check-in was very friendly, helpful and nice. The room was clean. The bed was comfortable and they provided enough towels for us. The elevator was slow and made noise.

This hotel is currently undergoing upkeep and renovations. They are booking out rooms that have not been maintained properly, knowing things like the air conditioner leaks and will flood the room. Their solution and explanation is there should have been a garbage can under it to catch the leak they knew about when they rented the room and that a staff member must have removed this leak bucket during cleaning. They did not apologize nor provide a refund nor a different room. They also charge extra for a smoking room during booking and didn't refund the difference for that either after putting us in a freshly painted room they said was now non-smoking. They did they compensate us for everything getting wet and even though I had room insurance they denied a claim because the hotel was kept open by management and not shut down for the above reasons. The hotel did not even give us laundry service for our wet clothes and I had to get quarters from their desk to pay for the machine (there is also only 1 machine for all guests in the entire hotel).

The pictures on website do not look like the property. It’s an old place and it smells moldy. We stayed anyways because there are no refunds per the website. All the hallways and the elevator were very hot. This includes the rooms, being summer I figured the air would be turned on. It took hours for the room to cool down. Pool was closed and green.

I was staying here because my mom was having surgery nearby. The staff was very friendly and even asked about my mom daily. The rooms was clean and very nice despite what the outside looked like. The parking lot was fenced off so you could not go around the building. Parking was limited and one way in and out. The sidewalk had several puddles and streams of water that smelled of sewer. The inside of the hotel was dark and dingy. The breakfast in the morning was only waffles and coffee and seating available for only 6 people.

Property was unsafe for guests to stay at as it had bed bugs. When brought to the attention of the manager, she stated, “they aren’t bedbugs, they are drain flies” so clearly we had the insect name wrong. Regardless, no insects should be on a bed for anyone. Management was very rude and unfriendly.

Bedbugs. I have as laying on the bed and saw crawling in the bed. I killed it, put it on a sheet of toilet paper, took it to the front desk. The lady at the front desk was laughing and said “oh where did it come from” I moved the upper mattress and found a few more bedbugs. I immediately packed my belongings and left the hotel. Aside from the bedbugs, there were roaches, the room smelled so bad I think it’s mold in the AC.

It was clean, but the rooms need some upkeep and repairs. The floor under our in room air conditioning was rotted out, the carpet is all that is keeping a guest from falling through. Guests are noisy in the hallways early in the morning hours like 3:30am. Guests would go in and out the stairwell door which would slam shut next to one of our rooms to go out to smoke, not much sleep that night, asked to change room and the night was better.

The motel property, grounds and neighborhood have clearly seen better days. There is a pool, but I did not use it. My room was adequate with clean towels and sheets. The room has a microwave, small fridge, TV, some sort of safe that I didn't bother trying to use, and coffee maker. Breakfast served in the lobby area starts at 06:00. They offered toast and assorted jelly packs, packets of oatmeal, muffins, hardboiled eggs, juice packs, waffles and coffee. There's an HEB across the street if you want additional food. For the money, the motel was adequate.
