I never thought I would write a review like this about Asilomar. I have been coming here since I was 4 years old, and I am now 40. For 36 years, this property has been part of my life and holds so many wonderful memories. That is what makes this experience so heartbreaking. Our recent stay was incredibly disappointing. The water was shut off, so after traveling and spending the day at the beach, we were unable to shower that first day. The second day, we still had no hot water. The bathroom had visible mold on the shower curtains and throughout the bathroom, which was completely unacceptable. We booked our rooms together, yet we were not placed together. The rooms were also advertised as having balconies and fireplaces, but the rooms we received had neither. The beds were extremely uncomfortable and painful to sleep on. What hurts most is seeing how badly the property has deteriorated. Buildings that I remember being beautiful and well cared for now look dilapidated and neglected. There appears to be a serious lack of maintenance and care for a property with so much history and sentimental value. After 36 years of coming here, this was devastating. Asilomar should be a special place where families create memories, not a place where guests have to deal with no water, no hot water, mold, uncomfortable beds, inaccurate room descriptions, and neglected buildings. This experience truly ruined our stay. Sadly, after coming here since childhood, we will not be returning.

The access to the ocean was wonderful, and we didn't use most amenities like the pool, restaurant and cafe due to me having a hurt foot. The downside is that we were hoping to watch movies in our room only to discover that there weren't any televisions. Once this was discovered, I looked back at the reservation and read "TV's in common areas." We did ask the front desk about the TV's and were told they don't have any due to being a state park (not even in common areas.) The comment was it's an "electronic detox" location. (If this is the case, it should be marketed this way as confirming if a room has a TV isn't normally necessary.) Our room was clean but outdated, and a guest phone was not in the room - it's a community phone down the hall for all to share. We were told that our building Willow Hill was actually renovated about 5 years ago. This was shocking to hear. Lastly, the wayfinding signage is in need of a major overhaul. We were told to park in the underground garage by Willow Hill. The issue is, there is absolutely NO signage to guide you from the parking garage up through the buildings above the garage (Manzanita on the left and Oak Knoll on the right), and out the door of either side to walk across paths on the exterior to the detached Willow Hill building next door. After my boyfriend and I walked in circles for a bit, we finally found our room. The lodge was nice, and the staff was nice as well.

1st time there. Staff at check in, and check out need customer service training. Property very difficult to navigate, too many one way streets. Bed was comfortable, partial ocean view, was very nice. The breakfasts were outstanding. Very close to numerous attractions and restaurants! Maybe an over all 8
