The Encinitan Hotel & Suites

The ad for the hotel clearly states breakfast and parking is included. I had to pay $15 when I got there for breakfast, Wi-Fi, and a parking. The hotel was OK. But the only reason I chose it was the free parking and free breakfast. I’ll stay somewhere else next time. Hopefully Expedia can update the listing

They had a fitness area, pool with jacuzzi, and offered breakfast!

Hot tub not hot. We were told we should be able to get in our room early, around 2:30-3pm, did not get into the room until 4:30. We got room keys at 4pm, but the room was not ready until 4:30pm. It made us late for our evening plans.

We have enjoyed staying here over the years. When it was formerly a Best Western property, the amenities were nicer and the pool area was well lit at night for safety. This time, now operating as The Encinitan, it was still a nice experience, however, the pool area was not lit at night so it felt unsafe to consider doing an evening swim (especially with kids on the property) and there was no Pool towels easily available by the pool as there use to be. The staff, easy convenient breakfast, and parking still make it a nice overall stay with so many enjoyable things to do nearby. When kids are happy, we are happy too and so it made for our stay all the more enjoyable. Highly recommend having complimentary water bottles available as before as there is no water filling station nearby the rooms. Only a small carafe available in the office lobby which is a trek if your room is on the other side.

Not right at the ocean about 10 min walk and definitely heavy freeway noise quite close to freeway. The gym was decent the sauna and pool were clean and good. Lazy Acres health food store across the street. The breakfast was ok. Not great.

The best part of my staying was the location because we love to go to moonlight beach which is ver my close to the hotel and also walking distance to lazy acres market which we love because you can get food and breakfast, the breakfast is very basic and it's sad that they don't offer pancakes or waffles , also disappointed that I've saw the lady that works there microwaving the eggs and sausage links, I've ended up going to lazy acres and bought healthy and real food instead but if your on a budget it's totally your place to have breakfast, I wasn't able to use the gym because they closed it at 10 because it's located on the second floor and I guess there's rooms underneath , other hotels offer 24 hour gyms which is great but not this one , the pool and the jacuzzi were amazing and the location also so we'd definitely come back for sure but not for the breakfast part for sure.

The hot tub could of been a little cleaner but otherwise everything was beyond perfect.

Overall the hotel is nice - it seems a bit dated on the outside. Elevator was down in one area so you had to do stairs or walk further down to take elevator. The pool and fitness center should stay open longer. The train that goes by every so often is so loud. We needed extra towels, toilet paper, and pillow and we had to go down to get it. There was only one person and they could not come deliver. The food was good and the cereal choices were great. The same stuff each day (3) we were there. The view was partial as we were on 2nd floor and there were many buildings in the view.

We selected this hotel because it was close to the beach. Front desk clerk didn’t seem to want to be bothered. He was away from the desk when we arrived to check in and when he got back, he didn’t say anything. When he removed the away from desk sign, I assumed he was who we were waiting for. Nice big parking garage. Hotel is a little older than I expected. Pool and jacuzzi needed to be cleaned, but guests used both. Breakfast was basic. Breakfast area was out of milk, so I had to find the attendant who was on a personal call in the back room. She had to leave to get more. Wouldn’t stay here again.

The premises were dirty. It looked like no one has cleaned the patios, the outside bathroom by the pool, everything was filthy.

Shower was small, had cracks in the tile and dirty. The bathroom doesn’t even close. Bottom of the door was rusted. The breakfast was horrible. Bread was stale, eggs was microwaved. Milk wasn’t cold. Coffee was not good. I paid over $300 for this room and it was definitely not worth it. Our bed had hair on it before we even laid on the bed. Very unsatisfactory

Overall stay was good. The family and i stayed 4 nights. Location was great! Lots of eateries and shops nearby. Moonlight beach was down the street one of my favorites. We got the 2 queen bed with sofa bed. Room was huge. Looks like they updated the hotel recently but still in need of some updating. The shower had black mold along the tile and the fire sprinkler was covered in rust. Room had all hard floors no carpet which was dirty i recommended mopping. Overall stay was decent just need to work on little things.

Found multiple large spiders in our room. The room kept having sewage smell coming up from the shower drain and sink. The floors were dirty, our feet were black just walking around the room.

The balcony and bathroom definitely need upgrades and deep cleaning. The shower drain smelled like mildew.

Horrible experience, since I only have a limited number of characters to write this review and simply say this, the floor is absolutely filthy, the breakfast is not a breakfast at all when the staff doesn’t keep it up and maintained, no towels at this facility expected dry off with bathmats. And let’s not forget the bug infestation. ants and pincher bugs constantly in the rooms on the walls on the beds. Contacted hotel management general manager has ignored me for two weeks after spending over $3000 at this hotel. Return my call, very polite and courteous attempted to advocate with the general manager, still have not received any calls back from that gentleman either , that tells me my needs and concerns are being ignored zero stars, potential to be a beautiful facility lacking in guidance & management. Highly recommend going to another hotel. There’s plenty others that will save you money and are probably cleaner and have better staff.

Room was dirty, hair all over the bathroom and no hot water. Bed had sand in it. Great location, but old and not well cared for.

I was really surprised by this hotel. Staff were so friendly. Outside is super cute. Amenities were great. The only reason complaint was cleanliness. The bathroom window seal was completely molded. Looks like no one has ever tried to clean it. The balcony was great but also needed to be swept, tons of dead bugs and trash etc. all in all, it was a great location that and the staff would be why we would stay here again!

Very spacious large room. Really like no carpet floor. Water pressure in shower could have been better.

While the view was fabulous, the local train woke us at all hours of the night. Clean and updated rooms, very close to the beach and restaurants!

Not quite as nice as the photos. I was expecting a nicer hotel. It faces the highway and so it’s quite nosey. The fridge in the room was very noisy and had to try to move it as far away from the bed as I could. Staff was nice and bed was comfy. Only stayed two nights so it was ok but it isn’t worth the spend in my opinion.

If you stay here and you want to be able to sleep make sure you call ahead and tell them not yo put you near the highway! Not too mention the train that blows its horn when it goes by! I had a torturous night trying to sleep. I checked in late 9:30pm and called down immediately about the noise and was told there was nothing they could do. Then at 1:30am I called again begging for earplugs and was then moved to the first floor where hopefully the noise was reduced. It was a little better but then I woke to what sounded like a bowling bowl hitting the floor above me at 7:15 am. Come to find out I was under the gym! Luckily that morning I was helped by Michelle at the desk who moved me to a quiet room finally. Nonetheless I’m really disappointed in the hotel. No park viewThe pictures are not realistic, water pressure was awful, smelled like septic at times. First room I was in was dirty, floor was stained. Even the last room had blood on the door curtains. I asked for compensation at least for the first night and received nothing. Again, really disappointed that I paid $250 a night with fees for a unexpected horrible experience. I came down a night early to avoid a long drive the next day for a concert. Made it more of a vacay which I didn’t need to do but they claim to be a luxury hotel. They definitely are not! It was a waste of money and too bad hotels take advantage of people like this. A manager was suppose to call me today and never did. I would never stay here again.

Spacious, clean room with a beautiful view of the ocean. We booked a double queen with a pull out sofa being a family of four. Free breakfast daily which was a typical hotel breakfast. Nice pool. Gym and laundry on site. Would be nice to see the hotel restaurant revived and a set of stairs installed in place of the steep dirt path they have as a shortcut to the street below. Very close to Moonlight Beach, our favorite spot in Encinitas. We would stay here again!

Really big rooms. Upgrade to the ocean view rooms. It’s worth it.

Would definitely stay again. My only complaint was the ac wouldnt get the room any colder than 77. Luckily it was a cooler weekend and we could open the balcony door and get some breeze in the room.

The doors to the rooms close loudly so expect to hear them slam shut from other rooms. But rooms are big and location is nice since the Encinitas main strip is walkable. Also near the Coaster train station.

Nice spacious rooms with comfortable needs and nice patios.

This property is dated, but has potential. Bed was comfortable. Views cannot be beaten! We did find a few stains in the bathroom that housekeeping missed, but no biggie. You will hear the train come by every 25 minutes or so at night (till about 2am), so bring earplugs.

Second time here in a month. Took my mother in law this time along with my step son and they both loved it. Michelle at rhe front desk was very friendly and welcoming too.

Employees not very helpful

We checked in on 1/22/25. The individual we "dealt" with, I believe it was Jeff, was a rather impolite person. He made us feel as if we were bothering him by checking in. He was a very poor image for the Hotel.

There was confusion about the reservation and trying to resolve it. The front desk man was rude, belligerent and threatening. We had to leave due to feeling unsafe. Will never stay at this property.

Staff were kind and helpful.

The staff at the desk, especially Michelle were very friendly and accommodating. Very refreshing to have that level of customer service.

We arrived at the hotel and immediately were met with very weird energy. The person acted as if we were coming to ruin their day. Upon asking for my name for the reservation he mentioned we got a queen room. I said no we did not. He then said, I can assure you you did. We would not randomly change the room from a king to a queen. At the point of him acting as crazy as he was, I said just keep the room as is. I later confirmed on my booking that the room was supposed to be a king. This is not a hotels.com issue but a hotel staff issue. Also, he gave us the keys to the room and did not even both to activate the keys. Again, had he been focused on customer service and not trying to prove an incorrect point, we would have had not only the correct room type but a working key. And there was a constant train all throughout the evening. We won't be returning.

I’m not the type of person,to put a bad review. I been in this property many times with no issues,this time was terrible from upper management,check in was great,but after walk In into the room,was not being clean,they moved us to different room with no sofa bed,really inconvenience because we have kids. First night was ok A/C works.Next day they move us to our original room but no A/C they keep us there for the night (hot room) Next day they move us again to different room,super clean but back to the same issue NO A/C I when back to front desk personal and they are great people,send a maintenance to check A/C can’t get fix. So the date we checked out from the hotel we ask for discounts,front desk was really polite and email GM and we told us only can remove resort fees $45 To this was nothing comparing to the hustle we have to deal,moving 3 times in the 3 nights we stay there. Definitely we’re not going back to This hotel, by the way this was our 8 time staying there,NO MORE…

Unfortunately, a male staff member at desk on 8/5 in the evening was unwelcoming and simply not a professional employee. We were made very uncomfortable, but it was too late to try to book elsewhere.

Front desk gentleman who checked me in did an excellent job. He was professional and friendly and very helpful.

Excellent location! Near several beaches, shopping, park with pickleball courts. Very walkable. The beds were comfortable and rooms were clean. The drawbacks were the rooms were not very quiet. We could hear conversations clearly outside the room and traffic below. The shower had a sulfur smell when in use.

What I would like a path down to the street you had to walk down the ramp where cars are coming and going doesn’t seem very safe

Rate this a 2, -3 TRAIN HORNS and traffic noise cancels out the 8mins walk to beach. Old bathrooms Pictures of hotel are OLD and not updated. Not worth the over priced stay. Again, 2 trains go until midnight and start again at 6:30am

We have stayed here several time and love the location and staff. Great little get away walking distance to see the sunset at moonlight beach!

It would be nice if the person working the breakfast spoke english (only spoke spanish) so we could actually ask if items were still available.

Nice breakfast in morning. Stayed as Continental, but they had some eggs and sausage.

I would give this hotel an average at best! I picked this hotel because it said free pool/ parking/ breakfast but got told its $15 per day charge for use of their amenities when checking in..Our first room i was disappointed with the no fridge. Our room was outdated a bit and the bathroom REAKED of eggs. Bed was comfy. We forgot to mention it before we left for the day but the night time front desk helped us with an upgrade. The second room was better, a fridge! Definitely more dusty then the last room. Looked exactly the same as our other room. But this one was so more! All you get is a tiny fridge extra..but Yay. Breakfast is on the cheap end.. a guy asked for more milk during breakfast hours and the lady wouldn’t give him any. Coffee great but sausage definitely is microwaved. this hotel could honestly be improved in such easy ways if they weren’t so cheap with things! Call me and I’ll definitely share some tips to make your hotel top notch! We did enjoy our stay. Possibly would stay again if it was cheaper a night…

Pictures show a walk in shower. Shower-tub combo is what we got and Hotel refused to switch our room to accommodate. We even requested in a message online before our trip that we wanted the walk in shower. My wife is older and has a hard time with slippery tub showers. Also, they don’t stock any pool towel at night.Breakfast was not too great. I don’t even know where they got the eggs from but they looked sad and the sausage was barely cooked.

The room was very nice and very spacious. We stayed for five nights. The trash man comes early 5am and you can hear the train very clearly up until 10/11pm. The breakfast was the exact same thing every day. Waffles, eggs, sausage. One morning they were out of sausage by 8am. We did walk to the beach. Not a hard walk and the beach was amazing. The bed was very very hard.

Breakfast options where cold not heated up! Room beds where comfy but the hotel is dated and the poctures look alot nicer.

This was my first time booking at this hotel. Check in process was smooth at the front desk and the room was very spacious and roomy with a comfy bed! I also enjoyed the view outside with options for dark curtains which I loved to make the room darker so I could sleep better. Continental breakfast they provided was delicious filled with different options such as pastries, yogurt, oatmeal and even eggs cooked as omelet one day and next day was sunny side up! I would highly recommend staying here

Great location walking distance to the beach and some restaurants. It’s an old hotel with some remodel. Loud AC and fridge. It’s fine for the price and proximity just know it’s clean but old. Pool was very old and I didn’t see anyone swim, jacuzzi was good. Breakfast was not good, other came in and laughed and went out for breakfast, not acceptable compared to other breakfast like Hampton or Hyatt Place etc.

Most everything looked dingy and dated. Room was large and beds were fine, but the property looked like it hasn't been freshened up in 20 years. Nice to have covered parking. The breakfast was pretty bad (minimal selection, no healthy options, the eggs looked like plastic food, the bananas were over ripe 2 days ago, etc.)
