It’s an old hotel but such a lovely spot by the water that even though I grew up in Berkeley, it’s where I always like to stay when I can get affordable nights. The smell of the water and the sound of the seagulls always makes me happy. The facilities are very nice too with a decent little gym and a pool as well as a good walking area.

The room was very clean and comfortable. All staff were exceptionally friendly. Our kids enjoyed the heated swimming pool and hot tub. Clean towels available in swimming pool area. The breakfast was the best! Something for each of us and the view while we ate was picture perfect. Compliments to the Chefs! Parking was convenient and felt safe. Our family had only one complaint.. that our stay was not long enough. .

This hotel is very old. The door to the bathroom is falling apart. The carpet is dirty. The whole room is dirty. The sheets are scratchy. The bathroom have mold on tiles. Only good thing were The staffs. Very nice. The place need a whole remodel.

I’ve stayed here twice before this stay but after this experience we won’t again. I used the Hilton honors app to check in and chose the 2 rooms I wanted, right next to each other and chose the time I would arrive. I arrived about 15 minutes before the check in time I chose. I was told upon checking the two rooms I chose were unavailable for 45 more minutes. Why let us choose the rooms and check in time if they would be unavailable at check in? We chose to wait the 45 minutes but that turned into almost a 2 hr wait and every time we asked for an update they would say 10 more minutes from housekeeping. We finally got into our rooms and when my son and I walked into our room I immediately noticed what appeared to be dirt on the sheer curtain by the slider window. I investigated further and realized it was mold on the drapes and the sheer curtain. I brought it to the front desks attention after taking photos and they were mortified. They removed the one room from our reservation but we still needed a place to stay for the night as part of our group was able to stay with family but there was simply just not enough room for everyone that night. We ended up staying in the other room that was showing no signs of mold but we were very hesitant. That second room was still not very clean, and the mini fridge leaked all over the floor. Still waiting to make sure we don’t get double charges since we paid in full through Expedia and then they charged at the hotel again. Not worth it.

I was able to share my concerns with the manager, only after leaving the property, so they said they would look into the issues for future guests. Fingers crossed. Among the issues, the room had a toilet seat that was not clean, a huge wad of chewed and dried-out gum on the side table, and a broken lock to the second-level slider, which needed to be opened to provide fresh air to the dank-smelling room. I was itchy after my stay, which I assumed was allergies, but I now realize it was the sheets. Pluses: the front desk staff was nice, and being by the water is always preferred. Minuses: while there for three days, no manager would make an effort to see me (although they reached out after I wrote a detailed letter, and made a few phone calls), rough hotel that needs major updating (something I would not have minded had I not experienced the dirty room, lack of acknowledgment while there, and the fact that someone kept my debit card number and charged me for breakfast that I was not present to eat, and a restaurant I never entered at all.

The staff at this hotel are amazing and accommodating and the lobby is great but the rooms are old and in disrepair and they smell. We moved rooms for a supposed upgrade because there were dead bugs in my curtains and the electric in the bathroom socket didn’t work. The new room had a smaller bathroom and was dirty and smelled. They tried another room and it stunk as well and had lots of scratched furniture etc so we stayed and every day they only provide two towel sets when they clean yet there are 4 of us and we have to remind the lobby daily. Also beds are small. Their doubles are tight for two adults. Most hotels have queens

We were initially given a room that was already occupied, and after trekking across three buildings, we had to return to the front desk—only to be met with an annoyed look instead of an apology. Once we finally got into the correct room (supposedly for four guests), we found only two towels. When we requested more, the same front desk staff responded with the same dismissive attitude. Asking about breakfast earned us a raised eyebrow and a curt “at the restaurant.” Not exactly welcoming. The pool was barely heated, the hot tub was broken and out of service, and the gym was half closed for repairs. Towels at the pool had visible stains, and the room itself was shockingly dirty—grime that looked like it had built up over years. The glass door was so filthy you could barely see through it. This hotel relies solely on its location. Beyond that, it makes no effort to provide a pleasant experience. There was no cell signal in Building 3, so I hope not to be assigned that area again. Glenda at the front desk was warm, attentive, and genuinely helpful. Although she had nothing to do with the cell signal issue, her kindness made our stay much better.

This location is probably one of the most amazing locations in all of Berkeley and overlooks the Berkeley Marina. However, the property condition, rooms, soundproofing leave a lot to be desired. The elevators are dilapidated, and the walls and doors are paper thin. Some people might be into hearing neighbors conversations and other nocturnal activities but for people who just want to rest, it might not be the most convenient and restful place to be.

The room was spacious and lovely. I stayed on the third floor and enjoyed the cathedral ceiling and small deck overlooking the marina. The only drawback to the room was the noisy air conditioner, although thankfully i could open the door to the deck and get fresh air at night. I had dinner at the restaurant my first night there...while the food was good, the place was short-staffed, the service was marginal, and i had to wait a long time to order and later to get my bill. I would still choose to stay there again because of the location and the attractive rooms but would go elsewhere for a meal.

The best part of the stay is the location. The room was nice and large. The property is marginally maintained. My room was large enough that it had two AC units. One was out of service. The engineering on-site was unable to fix it during my stay. House cleaning knocked on my door at 8:00 AM to see if I was checking out which is unacceptable as check out is 11:00 AM. On check out the employee on duty did not ask me how my stay was. Finally they charge $40.00 for overnight parking which is really unacceptable, there is literally nothing else out at this location/area. I consider the parking fee to be a money grab.

The front desk person was clearly just trying to get our interaction over with as quickly as possible. i remember while they were showing me how to find my room, I dropped something on the ground. They continued their explanation while I was crouched down on the floor and by the time I got up they were looking at something else and I had to ask them to repeat themselves because I obviously wasn't looking at the map while they were talking. I was also looking forward to the cookie you get at Doubletrees but during the interaction I just knew she wasn't going to offer it, and she didn't. As for the property, I have never in my life been placed in a room so far from the front desk. It killed my motivation to leave, order food, or do anything else, considering how far I was placed. The condition of the hotel wasn't great, but the reviews online sort of prepared me for that.

The checkin staff was very unwelcoming... nobody looks up at you from the computer. I told them my name and was just told "to slide my card". The parking is 40 bucks which is crazy but what was even crazier was I had to ask about it. Directions to the room were poor and I was only given one key when I clearly had another person with me. The room was fine... they have TV but you have to log into your own accounts so that's annoying.Air conditioning didn't work. Good things about it was the pool and hot tub and price wasn't bad.

The hotel needs an update. I could see light coming in from the hallway around my door, heavy staining on the floors and chunks of drywall missing on the corners of the walls. I had to change rooms 3 times because they weren’t clean (ie food on the floor and in cupboards, bathroom not wiped down thoroughly. The person at the front desk was amazing and very helpful as was the manager. The area was quiet, the valet service was peak, those guys were the best!!! I went to the boathouse restaurant and had an awesome meal/experience.

The location and price are really good. The first room smelled of smoke so we had to change to a new room. The front desk lady said they would move our stuff to the second room during the day. They did not so I had to go to the front desk, get the key to the first room and move our stuff myself after a long day. Moving room and myself took a bug part of the 3 day w/e. Then we went to the spa which was not hot, it was 90 degrees at a stretch. To make things worse it was like sitting in a chlorine tub rather than water tub. Our eyes are still red front the high chlorine content of the pool too... All of the above are fixable and would make for a far better experience.

The check-in process at this property was extremely frustrating and disorganized. We were required to download an app to check in, which didn’t work at all. After wasting time trying to get it to function, I went to check in at the front desk—only to find a long line of others having the same issue (about 6 people ahead of me and 10 behind). Meanwhile, my husband had to wait by the parking area because the instructions said parking check-in had to be done through the app. After a 20-minute wait, we finally reached the front desk, only to be met with a condescending receptionist. Our room wasn’t ready, and when we inquired about the warm cookies, my husband politely reached out to grab one. Instead of acknowledging him, the receptionist ignored him completely and handed them to me—despite my hands being full. Once we finally got into the room, we noticed the couch had visible stains and dirty footprints on it, which was disappointing and unhygienic. It may seem small, but it's the little things that make a difference in a guest’s experience. A simple act of courtesy, a clean room, or a warm welcome goes a long way—and unfortunately, that was missing here.

Hotel is in a very quiet location - right on the water/marina. Great running and biking trails around. It is not close to shops, but the hotel restaurant is excellent and there are a few other food places around. If you want a quiet hotel that is safe and surrounded by nature - this is great. If you want to be downtown Berkeley, then this probably doesn’t work for you.

This is a gorgeous property next to the most beautiful waterfront park in all of the East Bay. Staff is super friendly and helpful and accommodating. The hotel and rooms themselves are a bit dated but everything is comfortable and clean.

I was a little surprised that the reviews weren’t better because this place is fantastic, an amazing location, the Boathouse restaurant was great (had it for breakfast), and everyone I interacted with was beyond nice, highly recommend staying here for short-term stays or if you are in the area for awhile, I will be back!!

Had a very nice stay. Drove up to visit Cal-Berkeley. Close enough to campus but still had some space. Very nice facility and grounds. Rooms were nice too. Restaurant and Bar was not open during the day when I needed it, and that was disappointing. Lobby area could be better arranged for guests to hang out. Was woken up by a guest in another room having some kind of medical issue- but that was taken care of after about 20 minutes. Felt safe there- and thought the service was very good.

The hotel was quiet and has beautiful surroundings by the marina. Gorgeous views of San Francisco. The restaurant was grossly overpriced for the quality of food. $7 for a cup of drip coffee. The property was clean and the staff were kind and accommodating.
