What guests think

At avid hotels Elkhart North by IHG, travelers consistently note very clean, modern spaces, comfortable beds, and good value, with a convenient location for Notre Dame visits or highway stops.

Breakfast is grab and go and reviewed as acceptable to limited, with 24/7 lobby coffee appreciated but some items poor or missing. Rooms are minimalist and functional, often compact and comfy yet sometimes noisy from hard floors, with occasional TV, AC, or light blocking issues. Service sees many positive notes for efficiency and problem solving, though some reported rude interactions, and there was an overbooking/key mix up and slow follow up on a refund; facilities include a small pool and a well liked gym. The pool area is the most dangerous of any hotel I've ever stayed at before. The tile is smooth and slick without being wet. When wet it's very dangerous. Witnessed several people slip and fall or nearly fall while we were there.

Not that impressed by this stay as overall there were a few concerning items. My room had a floor baseboard that fell down, the pool was cloudy and cool despite it being August, and there were mildew/mold spots in a few places throughout the hotel. What was excellent was the fitness center, employees were nice and helpful, and breakfast was good. This was my first experience at an avid hotel so I'll likely only use them if I can't find any better options in the future.

One of the better values I've stayed at in the last two years. New, clean, modern, fantastic gym. The format is a new way to stay. No coffee in room but 24 hour coffee that was A+ in the lobby. No closets but plenty of wall hooks to hang garments on. They really focus on the necessities and the beds, bathrooms and service was A+. The grab and go breakfast was unique and well received by everyone in our party. The people who work here smile enjoy what they do. I'll be staying again.

As a first time customer I was impressed with the quality of the staff, cleanliness of the room, my son loved the pool, and I enjoyed the fitness center. I come in town every 3 months and as long as the experience remains at this caliber I will be making it our choice of place to stay.

Very clean and simple concept. All the conveniences we needed were included. Loved the textured floors versus traditional hotel carpet. Our room didn't leave any hint of pets having been in it. I prefer when a hotel has some pet free rooms, as I have allergies to certain breeds. Comfy bed, and I also like the wall hooks provided for convenience. Breakfast area was just what we needed! Thanks!

We were pleasantly surprised with this hotel. It was spotless, the staff were very professional and friendly. We travel with our senior beagle. We found plenty of space around the hotel to walk him. He needed to go outside around 2am and I felt very safe walking him. A huge plus was the nominal fee charged for him. The room was nicely decorated. It had a “dorm room” vibe, but it was nice to relive our college days! The beds were very comfortable! It was the second night on the road for us and honestly, it was the best sleep I had had in quite sometime. Breakfast was another pleasant experience. Fresh fruit, yogurt, Jimmy Dean Sausage, Egg, and Cheese English Muffin sandwiches. The 24-hour coffee bar was wonderful. Many hotels offer coffee but this coffee was delicious! I’m looking forward to staying at another Avid hotel.

Pros: Nice, seemingly new hotel. Clean room. No closet but had plenty of hooks on the wall to hang up your clothes and such. Plenty of receptacles to plug in electronics. A mini fridge perfect to store drinks. Ice machine on both the 1st and 2nd floor. We didn't go any higher than that. Heat/Temp was consistent. The black out curtain was a shade that you pushed a button to put down or up. Perfect!!!! Loved it! Breakfast: Even though they said it was a grab and go breakfast, they had plenty of variety. Apples, bananas, honey, peanut butter, hot breakfast sandwiches, bagels, biscuits, toast, 3 different flavors of yogurt, etc. 24/7 tea and coffee. Cons: No carpet in the room so it was cold and noisy. You could hear people above us walking. No folding rack to put your suitcase. I found the evening check- in person to be in a hurry and not very friendly. She didn't offer the typical "Breakfast is from..." or "Your password is..." I had to ask while she was walking away. Checkout was interesting. I liked checking out on the room TV. It said the key would be deactivated but didn't tell us whether we should leave it in the room or drop it off at the desk. Although we dropped it off at the desk she didn't seem friendly either.

The room itself was nice, very comfy bed, great shower, everything we needed. Unfortunately it was oddly noisy. It sounded like someone was rattling oyr doorknob several times in the night, but no one was there. The bed made a loud clunk when i would get up. There was a pull down shade, but headlights from the parking lot lit up our room from around the edges. We were on the first floor. This happened several times in the night and was startling and disorienting, with the bright moving light passing through. Im exhausted from a very bad night of poor sleep. Breakfast was decent.

Our check-in took over an hour because the room keys that kept being given to us did not work on the room assigned. Turns out they had overbooked and there was already someone in the room we were assigned to. They finally found us another available room in the property. However, about 45 minutes after we were in our room, the same thing happened to us with, another couple trying to access our room that they had mistakenly been assigned. Absolutely no consideration was given to us by management for the time spent on their mistake, and it was after midnight when we finally got into our room.

Our stay was pleasant. The room was nice and clean. The breakfast selection was alright. I don't eat pork, and they had veggie omelets. They were pretty tasty. Also, there was flavored creamer for the coffee and other selections. All of the employees spoke and were kind. The main thing is that it was clean and affordable. I can't do dirty places. And I love that they had a soap dispenser and lotion on the wall as opposed to the little bar of soap to wash my hands. There was a fridge in the room, but no microwave. But you can go down to the lobby to use the microwave. I would stay here again if I needed to.
