What guests think
Reviews of OYO Hotel Totonacapan, Papantla describe a budget, centrally located stay where some guests appreciate kind staff, yet many report shortcomings that affect comfort and reliability, resulting in a mixed experience that often falls short of expectations.
The location is walkable to the Zócalo, markets and transport, though traffic, dogs and general street noise can disrupt rest. Facilities draw frequent complaints: the elevator is often out of service, parking is limited or on‑street, and hot water and plumbing are inconsistent. Rooms feel dated with noisy or weak A/C, thin or ill‑fitting curtains, unreliable Wi‑Fi (sometimes only in the lobby), odd bathroom layouts, and some reports of pests. Expect a very central, low‑cost base with significant compromises.

THERE WAS NO TOILET SEAT, THERE WAS NO RUNNING HOT WATER, THE PICTURES THEY USED TO PROMOTE THEIR HOTEL WERE FAKE. THE LOCK TO THE DOOR WAS NOT WORKING PROPERLY AND THE A/C WAS NOT WORKING EITHER. I WAS HIGHLY RECOMMEND NOT STAYING THERE AT ALL. I AM SURPRISED THAT EXPEDIA PROMOTE THIS HOTEL ON THEIR WEBSITE. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE.

This hotel is the worst I have ever stayed in. The window glass was broken and the street was very noisy, the room was dirty with a lot of hair and dust, the elevator doesn’t work and the fourth floor was very hot, the rooms window AC unit was very old, noisy and it wouldn’t cool the room for hours, we left it on so it would be cool when returning but the housekeeper turned it off even though we told the front desk we didn’t want housekeepers in the room. Stay away from this horror movie hotel.

Old towels, curtains, bad water pressure, aircon outdated. Overall good service, workers were great but premises need deep upgrading.

the elevator doesn't work, the place is super dirty. that's why they don't give refunds. They know that when you arrive, check in, and see the room conditions, you'll want to leave. It's a place with terrible conditions. They should close this hotel. I left with an itchy rash and was only in the room for a couple of minutes. don't waste your money there. Check Google Maps and you'll see the real reviews of this awful place.

The photos do not represent the rooms they offer. They must have on 'model' they use for photos and advertisments. The room was very dirty, no internet, no hot water, no toilet cover so it is a wide open hole that you cannot sit on without falling into the water. Dozens of street dogs in the street that fight each other all night long. Bright lights outside from the street but very thin curtains that do not block the light and actually do not fit the complete length of the window. I have traveled the world and have stayed in many bad places, but this was the worse hotel I have every stayed in. I do not recommend. My reveiw is being kind. After the first night I moved to a different hotel.
