We gathered at the Maury River House for a family summer reunion this past week. The space was perfect for what we needed – comfortable bedrooms, modern bathrooms, and a great room that held us all for eating and socializing and playing games and watching movies. We swam in the river out front every day and up at Goshen Pass. The shed is full of river toys—kayaks, floats, tubes, mask and goggles—and we used them all. And croquet and horse shoes on the lawn! The owners are super responsive and helpful. What a great week in a beautiful spot!

The Maury River house was hands down the most well-equipped place we have ever stayed! We were in town for a family wedding but could have easily been fully entertained and never left the property. Our 4-year old granddaughter loved the toys in the kids room and the books. She wanted to explore the trunk of dress-up clothes on the porch but we just ran out of time. The shed had bikes and games a d kayaks. A canoe was available as well as plenty of life jackets. The rooms were sparkling clean. The kitchen had every single gadget I needed all weekend and even had a few things that helped tremendously when we hadnt made it to the grocery yet. We arrived a bit before normal check-in and were able to check in early thanks to wonderful hosts Lee and Ian who responded to my request almost immediately. The welcome upon our arrival was extraordinary! A large welcome basket filled with goodies, a hand-written note, fresh flowers, and a cute personalized message on the message board. The whole experience made us all feel like royalty and that our hosts were well pleased we were there (and not a burden). Thank you!

The pictures really do not do this property justice! It is beautifully decorated with tons of amenities. It’s well stocked with amenities including personal welcome treats, firewood and an extremely well stocked kitchen. They had a ton of books for ALL ages! It was the most impressive that I’ve seen at a rental! The house is very private with tons of parking and right on the river. They also had kayaks, a canoe and a ton of yard games. They had a sound system, video game system, CD collection and movies. You can also log into the TV with your credentials for things like Netflix. The dining table was nice and large, and had plenty of room to seat our party of 10. Three families stayed comfortably over the weekend and no one really wanted to go home. The property was close to great hiking and a beautiful overlook. We met Ian, the owner, at the property, and he gave us an overview of the house. He was lovely and he and his wife are extremely generous with their guests. My only low mark is that you have to physically meet someone at the property. While his meeting short, and he was delightful, it adds a little bit of extra stress having to communicate your arrival time in advance and meet a stranger at night in the middle of nowhere. Again, he couldn’t have been kinder and check ins are flexible. They also let us know no one was coming in after us and we could check out whenever we wanted despite us not having to ask. They also have a very generous checkout process in terms of things you have to do before you leave. They were really amazing hosts!

We stayed here with some members of our horseback riding team for an event at Virginia Horse Center. Just 15 minutes from the Virginia Horse Center, and a perfect spot to hang out with the team’s riders, parents, and trainers. The location was fantastic for kids! We had a fire pit, kayaked on the river, and had lots of fun! He house is very well appointed and the hosts were so hospitable!

The Maury River house was a perfect place for our family of twelve’s summer vacation. Beautiful area and surroundings, numerous close accesses to the river, many excursions available in nearby Lexington and the house had all the possible amenities we needed. What a gorgeous house! Our extended family.got together for a late Christmas celebration, and this was the perfect place to do it. The house is so we'll taken care of, with great attention to detail. The kitchen had everything we needed to make our holiday meal. Lee and Ian were so kind and made check in and check out super easy. The property itself was perfect for outside play with the little kids. Horseshoes, a walk down the lane, standing down by the river, s'mores over the fire pit--all of it made for a great getaway. Highly recommend!

Beautifully upgraded, nicely maintained, well supplied, great outdoor spaces. Plenty of beds and couches and really nice lavatory facilities. Hosts communicated quickly and had a ton of local info and history on site. Little touches and amenities were excellent. One of our group will likely bring his family to this choice. It was off-season for affordability, but what a sweet choice. Devil's Backbone food and brews was relatively close and good rating as well.

This was the ideal property for our family vacation! We absolutely loved every moment of our time together at this extremely comfortable, clean home. Our hosts made great efforts to make us feel most welcome. The kitchen was well-stocked and organized and the use of the outside grill made meal prep a cinch! There were many board games and the shed, indeed, was filled with many outside toys and activities for all ages. The house was close to many attractions and our host provided fun filled activities to do including local restaurants and shops. Being steps away from the river was a welcome relief on hot afternoons! And evening walks on this quiet, country road were the perfect end to the day:)

This home did not disappoint. We had everything we could possibly need. I loved the little signs around the home that explained different things. The welcome basket was a very nice touch. It was warm and cozy. There are just so many nice little touches you just need to rent this beautiful home and experience them for yourselves. Probably one of the best homes we have ever rented to be quite honest. Check it out you won't be disappointed.

I booked this house because of the table at which the entire family of 10 could sit together for meals. We are also very fond of older homes that have been remodeled for modern day use -- and this was inspiring!

Lee and Ian should be doing consulting for VRBO owners that want to provide the over the top experience. I cannot express how lovely this place is. Everything about it was excellent. Extremely clean, comfortable, very roomy. They have thought of everything. Check out was also a treat - very little to do before we left. I am trying to think of when we might return to stay at this amazing house. Thank you both for being perfect hosts and helping make our wedding weekend even better.

It was a great stay. The house is clean and well stocked. We were there for a family wedding at the Irvine Estate and it was an easy drive. The house has a lot to offer unfortunately we weren’t able to take advantage of it as we were busy with wedding activities all weekend. We recommend this property.

We had a lovely and relaxing weekend at the house. The property is beautiful and probably the cleanest rental we've ever stayed at. We are a family of readers and were delighted to see so many books around the house. It was too windy during our stay to use the firepit, but we enjoyed playing horseshoes and croquet. The board games and "old school" Nintendo were really fun too. Wish we could have stayed longer!

The owners have provisioned the property very well - high quality linens, comfortable mattresses, a fully stocked kitchen perfect for cooks, many games and toys, a full library of books, and lots of quality outdoor toys. The owners were very responsive and helpful. Highly recommended.

Our stay at the Maury House was exceptional. Thehost was accommodating ( we arrived an hour early) and available. The host responded to my questions immediately. The house is beautiful, well appointed, and had everything we needed in the kitchen, bathrooms, and bedrooms. There were seven in my group and the house could have held many more a d be very comfortable. Highly recommend! . ..

The Maury River house was hands down the most well-equipped place we have ever stayed! We were in town for a family wedding but could have easily been fully entertained and never left the property. Our 4-year old granddaughter loved the toys in the kids room and the books. She wanted to explore the trunk of dress-up clothes on the porch but we just ran out of time. The shed had bikes and games a d kayaks. A canoe was available as well as plenty of life jackets. The rooms were sparkling clean. The kitchen had every single gadget I needed all weekend and even had a few things that helped tremendously when we hadnt made it to the grocery yet. We arrived a bit before normal check-in and were able to check in early thanks to wonderful hosts Lee and Ian who responded to my request almost immediately. The welcome upon our arrival was extraordinary! A large welcome basket filled with goodies, a hand-written note, fresh flowers, and a cute personalized message on the message board. The whole experience made us all feel like royalty and that our hosts were well pleased we were there (and not a burden). Thank you!

Lee and Ian should be doing consulting for VRBO owners that want to provide the over the top experience. I cannot express how lovely this place is. Everything about it was excellent. Extremely clean, comfortable, very roomy. They have thought of everything. Check out was also a treat - very little to do before we left. We stayed here with some members of our horseback riding team for an event at Virginia Horse Center. Just 15 minutes from the Virginia Horse Center, and a perfect spot to hang out with the team’s riders, parents, and trainers. The location was fantastic for kids! We had a fire pit, kayaked on the river, and had lots of fun! He house is very well appointed and the hosts were so hospitable!

Beautifully upgraded, nicely maintained, well supplied, great outdoor spaces. Plenty of beds and couches and really nice lavatory facilities. Hosts communicated quickly and had a ton of local info and history on site. Little touches and amenities were excellent. One of our group will likely bring his family to this choice. It was off-season for affordability, but what a sweet choice. Devil's Backbone food and brews was relatively close and good rating as well.

We gathered at the Maury River House for a family summer reunion this past week. The space was perfect for what we needed – comfortable bedrooms, modern bathrooms, and a great room that held us all for eating and socializing and playing games and watching movies. We swam in the river out front every day and up at Goshen Pass. The shed is full of river toys—kayaks, floats, tubes, mask and goggles—and we used them all. And croquet and horse shoes on the lawn! The owners are super responsive and helpful. What a great week in a beautiful spot!

What a beautiful country property to break away and relax in. Large home, large deck, and huge yard was great for keeping our large group entertained. We filled the house with 6 adults and 8 children and it worked out perfectly. The attention to detail put into this home to ensure the best possible experience is hard to match. Cannot say enough nice things! Quality and cleanliness of everything is excellent, house is well maintained and stocked, linens are new and fresh, and owners are helpful, quick to respond and nice. I felt as if I was in my own home (yet clean and without clutter). The location is beautiful, a countryside oasis with Lexington right down the road. Highly recommend, and I hope to return.

It was a great stay. The house is clean and well stocked. We were there for a family wedding at the Irvine Estate and it was an easy drive. The house has a lot to offer unfortunately we weren’t able to take advantage of it as we were busy with wedding activities all weekend. We recommend this property.

The Maury River house was a perfect place for our family of twelve’s summer vacation. Beautiful area and surroundings, numerous close accesses to the river, many excursions available in nearby Lexington and the house had all the possible amenities we needed. This place was gorgeous!! Anything you could think of that you might need for a comfortable stay , they had! Extra blankets, towels for the creek, any kind of cooking utensil.. they had everything!! Plus the beds were soooo comfortable!! Lee and Ian made everything about the check in and check out process so simple! They kept in contact with me throughout the week leading up to our stay and after we checked out just to say thanks!! My whole family stayed and we had the BEST experience!! I cannot say enough about how amazing it was!

The hospitality of the hosts was above and beyond. The house was very clean, very comfortable, and perfect for our family's gathering. I booked this house because of the table at which the entire family of 10 could sit together for meals. We are also very fond of older homes that have been remodeled for modern day use -- and this was inspiring!

The owners have provisioned the property very well - high quality linens, comfortable mattresses, a fully stocked kitchen perfect for cooks, many games and toys, a full library of books, and lots of quality outdoor toys. The pictures really do not do this property justice! It is beautifully decorated with tons of amenities. It’s well stocked with amenities including personal welcome treats, firewood and an extremely well stocked kitchen. They had a ton of books for ALL ages! It was the most impressive that I’ve seen at a rental! The house is very private with tons of parking and right on the river. They also had kayaks, a canoe and a ton of yard games. They had a sound system, video game system, CD collection and movies. You can also log into the TV with your credentials for things like Netflix. The dining table was nice and large, and had plenty of room to seat our party of 10. Three families stayed comfortably over the weekend and no one really wanted to go home. The property was close to great hiking and a beautiful overlook. We met Ian, the owner, at the property, and he gave us an overview of the house. He was lovely and he and his wife are extremely generous with their guests. My only low mark is that you have to physically meet someone at the property. While his meeting short, and he was delightful, it adds a little bit of extra stress having to communicate your arrival time in advance and meet a stranger at night in the middle of nowhere. Again, he couldn’t have been kinder and check ins are flexible. They also let us know no one was coming in after us and we could check out whenever we wanted despite us not having to ask. They also have a very generous checkout process in terms of things you have to do before you leave. They were really amazing hosts!

This home did not disappoint. We had everything we could possibly need. I loved the little signs around the home that explained different things. The welcome basket was a very nice touch. It was warm and cozy. There are just so many nice little touches you just need to rent this beautiful home and experience them for yourselves. This home did not disappoint. We had everything we could possibly need. I loved the little signs around the home that explained different things. The welcome basket was a very nice touch. It was warm and cozy. There are just so many nice little touches you just need to rent this beautiful home and experience them for yourselves. Probably one of the best homes we have ever rented to be quite honest. Check it out you won't be disappointed.

We stayed with our adult children and infant grandson and wish we could have stayed longer! The hosts are extremely gracious and responsive; they have thought of every detail. We enjoyed games by the fire and there is a cradle of children's books. The kitchen is well outfitted and we even snipped some fresh herbs from the garden.

This was the nicest vacation house we have visited. The entire family was delighted. The house was wonderful with so many special touches of decoration and comfort. The house was immaculate and the kitchen was large, modern and the furnished items were exceptional. The welcome gifts were also very well done and enjoyed by the family. It is very family-friendly and my family would like to return at some future date. Thanks to our hosts for a great experience.

This house is absolutely wonderful for hosting multiple families at once. We stayed here for my son's graduation from Washington and Lee University, and it was the perfect home base. While it is about a 20- to 25-minute drive to the W&L campus, the space and amenities make it completely worth it, especially if you have extended family traveling into town.The hosts truly make the stay enjoyable with thoughtful, added touches like complimentary toiletries, coffee, and tea. The kitchen is also fully equipped with everything you could possibly need to cook. As an added bonus, Walmart delivers to this address, which made it incredibly easy to have groceries dropped off so we could prepare and enjoy nightly family dinners together. Highly recommend!

One of the best rental experiences we’ve ever had. The home was so well appointed with every last detail thoughtfully prepared and provided. There were even fresh-cut peonies in vases on the porch and in the kitchen upon our arrival, as well as a welcome basket and hand-written note. The beds and pillows were all excellent—a huge plus for us. The house was spacious and comfortable for our large group and having 2 bathrooms on the main floor was really helpful. Children are warmly welcomed with a wide variety of books, toys, games, dress-up clothes, and DVDs—even a Bumbo baby seat and baby gate are provided! Quality natural/organic bath products. Marshmallows, blankets and roasting skewers supplied. Quality grill. Everything felt just like home. This host has thought of everything. The checkout process was one of the easiest I’ve ever seen and the host was kind and accommodating about an extra-late checkout. It’s pricey but perfect for a large group—in our case two sides of a multi-generational family in need of ample common space, entertainment and sensible bedroom configurations. 10/10 would stay again.
