What guests think
Across the reviews, Lakeshore Retreat stands out as exceptionally clean and comfortable, with a quiet setting, and a location convenient for the Virginia Creeper Trail, the lake, and visits to nearby Abingdon and Damascus.
Guests frequently praise the responsive, helpful host and generally smooth check-in and check-out. Families and groups value the spacious layout and large porch/deck areas for relaxing and gathering. Recurring complaints focus on a poorly maintained grill, with a few minor upkeep notes (e.g., loose towel rack, tall grass) and isolated mentions of lukewarm hot water, a nonworking fireplace, and difficult boat-trailer access on the steep drive. Expect a comfortable, low-key base for outdoor activities and nearby towns.

Facilities
Large front and back porches/decks are a highlight for relaxing outdoors. Several reviews report problems with the gas grill (missing handle, excessive char) and one noted a nonworking fireplace; pet-friendly policy is appreciated.

This is a lovely cabin, comfortably furnished and very quiet and peaceful. It has a large porch with lots of rockers that is great for catching the breeze.

This cabin was even better than the pictures, which are very nice! Great layout for our family. Several areas to tuck away in, or large ling/ dining room open space to enjoy together. The porch! The porch! The porch! Just perfect ! We ended up relaxing more on the porch than doing other adventures because it was so relaxing. Everything was perfect. Very clean, nice private neighborhood and the river is nearby. Will be returning!

We visited for a week and loved the location. The cabin is spacious and has a great deck. I would stay again. The main issue was that the grill was unusable. It is missing the handle, and is full of char. We tried to use it, but the char caught fire and smoke was everywhere. We were outside monitoring the grill, so we were able to turn it off immediately.

This was just what we needed for a small group ... a big room connected to the kitchen with a great porch.

This cabin is very nice and was clean. The large front porch was perfect for hanging out on a rainy day. It is located in a beautiful area on a large hillside lot. However, there was an obvious lack for detail. There is no place in any of the 3 bedrooms to place your luggage which was awkward, the grill was missing the handle so we didn't use it, there was a towel rack in the main bathroom that was about to fall off the wall and the grass was a foot tall. There was 4 coffee pods with the coffee maker and the house was rented to 5 people for two nights. Overall this is a great house and I will definitely consider renting it again.

The place was very nice and decently appointed. Great decks on the front and back of the building for toy staging and relaxation. The check-in/check-out process was not automated through the app, so it was a little unclear what was to be done, but we've done this before and knew the drill.

We generally enjoyed it. The owners were very responsive to a gas grill problem. We never had normal hot water. It was lukewarm. Only one dishwasher detergent pod was provided so we had to leave dirty dishes. Nice house with relaxing atmosphere. Close to Abingdon and Damascus.

Cabin was cozy, we did wish the fireplace worked. It was clean, plenty of supplies. Hopefully the next time we come the grill will be a better grill. A fire pit would also be wonderful but not sure if those are allowed. We do not have animals so it was nice to not have to smell dogs as usually happens when places allow dogs. Amanda was very helpful and answered questions for me within 20 minutes which was nice.

The house/cabin was clean and perfect for our overnight visit. We visited the Damascus Brewery and Wild Chicken and had a fun game night back at the house. Too cold to enjoy the deck and outdoor area but we all enjoyed our stay and got up and did the much recommended Virginia Creeper. Host was great with communication. Thank you for acccommodating our early check in.

This cabin was a clean, spacious, family friendly located in a quite subdivision. My elderly parent found the single level layout easy navigate. Plenty of outdoor activities close to explore and the lake was prestine. Lots of shopping close. We very much enjoyed the lighting bugs display right after sundown. It was like Christmas trees lit up! Thank you for sharing your lovely pet friendly home with us.

In town for our youngest son's wedding, we needed a place close to the wedding venue, large enough for a few couples to sleep and relax between events and was also pet friendly....Lakeshore Retreat met our needs perfectly. The house itself is gorgeous, had a fully stocked kitchen where I was able to make breakfast every morning before each days festivities, enough bathrooms (fully stocked also by the way) for all of us, and plenty of space for us to veg out and relax. And who can forget the porch..a great place to enjoy an early morning cup of coffee. Everything about our stay was perfect and I can't thank Amanda enough for her responsiveness and sharing this beautiful home.

We stayed here to extend our fishing trip from one day to two. We were supposed to have two boats but one had to cancel. The property description made it sound like easy access for boat trailers etc. Turns out the house is on a steep hill with no where to turn the boat around at the the top of the hill. Backing up the hill in the dark would have been difficult. Backing down in the morning was no cake walk as we slid every few feet on the wet pavement. Other than that, the house it great..

The house was clean and was minutes from fishing, biking, and the Barter Theatre. We enjoyed our stay.

Cabin was updated, clean, and a great space for winding down after we fished all day. Everything was very comfortable and the location was perfect for our trip.

I highly recommend this property! Beautiful home inside and out . Front and back porches with great views . Location is near the Virginia Creeper Trail. The lake is only down the street from this house. It’s very nice We will definitely stay at this property again ! Thank you again for sharing your property with us and others .

Place says 8 but only seating for 7 while eating could use another chair or stool. The kitchen carpets we moved to side kept tripping on them. Need more coffee and tea mugs, we purchased disposable cups. We enjoyed our stay it was comfortable, warm and inviting. The views are wonderful.thank you

Great place with everything you need for a comfortable and relaxing getaway. Quiet and secure. Deer running in the yard were a plus for my husband!
