You will either love it or hate it. I’m a solo traveler from Dallas, and Raíz may be one of the strangest places I’ve stayed. I arrived after dark and thought, “What have I done?” The neighborhood is VERY rough—unpaved sandy roads, barking stray dogs, graffiti, abandoned construction and unfinished properties. In daylight, though, Raíz is actually pretty cool. Huge cement rooms, gorgeous thatched roofs, palms, elevated walkways, exposed copper plumbing and SUPER AC. You can even faintly hear the ocean. Someone created a unique tropical hideaway in the middle of a very rough neighborhood. Unfortunately, cleanliness, smoke and noise ruined it for me. There were numerous dead/trapped bugs near my ceiling and bugs everywhere outside. Breakfast had fruit, yogurt, bread and eggs, but small flying bugs were landing around the uncovered food. Ugh. Cover the food! Smoking was my biggest issue. It’s a tiny open-air property, so there’s nowhere to escape cigarette smoke. I would not return for this reason alone. Then there’s sleep: barking dogs, roosters, loud cars, conversations and late-night activity. Even with my doors closed, sleep was nearly impossible. The nearby beach is beautiful but VERY rough. Raíz provides a towel and umbrella, and inexpensive restaurants are nearby. Bottom line: Enjoy the cool room, palms, beach and delicious welcome cocktail. Prepare for bugs, noise, a rough neighborhood and apparently shortening your life breathing cigarette smoke.

Beautiful Property! The rooms are cute and comfortable. The pool & bar/restaurant are great. Small, but all you need. The food is yummy. The location is good... 2 blocks to main st in town, and 2 blocks to the beach. Easy to walk anywhere. We had a great time here and even extended our stay by another 5 days. Especially appreciated Sebastian. He was so helpful and always had a big smile on his face and suggestion to make our trip more fun!

The staff was friendly and kind. The sourdough toast was quite small, it was like one toast cut in half but the jams were declicious. It would be great to have decaf cofffee. The air conditioning vs the amount of bedsheets we got was not good. The room would get extremely cold and we had to ask for extra sheets and on our last day a duvet. As a suggestion, it would be great if rooms had a mini refrigetator, we wanted to bring some food back from a restaurant but had to throw it away because we had no wehere to store it and there were ants (which is normal as we are at the beach) but a fridge would help.
