West Winds Motel & Cottages

The property is very nice, clean and staff was very friendly. They have a beautiful view of the St Lawrence River on their dock. It was conveniently located close to the Village of Clayton which is a beautiful place to visit. There is a pool and fire pit on the premises. we were never bothered by neighbors once. I like walking and walked into the Village which took about 45 minutes and spent the day there. I loved this motel and hope to go back soon. I Highly recommend staying here.

The workers were absolutely amazing. We had 2 children with me and my girlfriend. Its was an unforgettable experience. We even ran 10 mins behind our checkout time and they told us not to worry. I rented cottage 15 a queen 1 bedroom cottage and the children slept on the futon outside in the closed in pourch. They had everything youd need for cooking plus grill on site. Also they had 2 nicer grills by the gazebo with activities horseshoes and some round ball game. A beautiful dock and large green grass ares for the children. Id give this a 10 out of 10. Im already planning a trip in August! Oh i forgot to mention the pool! Really nice!

The moment we arrived at West Winds Motel and Cottages in Clayton, we knew we picked the right place to stay while visiting Thousand Islands. West Wind cottages are located along the St. Lawrence River with a beautiful view of the River from the entry to the property. We stayed in the motel type rooms there because there were no vacant cottages upon our arrival thinking that we could move to a cottage the next day when there was a vacancy, however, we enjoyed our room so much that we never changed to the cottage. The rooms were very clean and comfortable as was the bed. The bed was queen sized which was all they offered. The bathroom was a little small with only a shower but that worked for us. It was also immaculate. Clean towels were offered daily. The owner, Dean, was really nice and friendly. He took great care of the grounds showing care and pride in his business and treating us like family. He builds a nightly fire for all to enjoy and we even observed him blowing off the sidewalks for added cleanliness. He also accredited his wife for the nice little touches found on the property and in the rooms. There was a nice little 24 hour coffee room stocked and equipped with Keurig coffee, creamer, cups with lids, ice and even a wine bottle opener. All rooms and cottages have an outdoor picnic table which was convenient. There was an in ground pool which was very clean. We have great memories and pictures of our stay at West Winds. Such a cute retreat! Loved the outside seating along the river and the firepit. The grounds very well maintained. The owners are super nice. Definitely will go back again!

Old school motel and cottages with lovely views of the St. Lawrence. Outdoor amenities included horseshoes, bocce and a fire pit. Pool was not open during our stay, but looked nice. The room featured new mattresses and cable TV. Walking distance to the local distillery for 21 & over. Staff was friendly and accommodating.

Located on a pleasant sloping hill with and excellent river view. Safe stairs down to the river and boat docks.

The staff are very polite and friendly. We were greeted by a gentleman at the front desk who informed us that they have a nightly fire and everyone is welcome attend. The grounds are very well maintained.

What a nice spot. The owner Jolene was very nice and friendly. The cabin was extremely clean and well-maintained. They have a gas grill and new picnic table outside, as well as a nice Adirondack chair set that was also heavy duty. I would recommend an upgrade of the mattress to the owner. Past that, the place was amazing. Nice pool, gazebo, fire pit, dock. What a find!

We definitely enjoyed our stay at this Motel. Given availability when we booked, we were were in the 1st room near the road. The room needed airing out, which we did. Next time I would pick a room number 6+ or one of the cabins to reduce the road noise. The service was great. We loved the coffee and tea common area.

Very cute, quaint motel with cabins. The motel was was incredibly well maintained and immaculate. But it is a bit dated and a comfier bed would have been appreciated. Views were fantastic and the owners are amazing! Would have loved to sit outside the room and have a cup of coffee, but the neighbors used it as a smoking space. Yuck.

Quite large room, bathroom renovated recently. I believe the water in the area creates a different odor which is not that pleasant, but that can't be avoided. Great stay, would definitely book this motel again.

The decore was drab. A definite mold/ must smell but lightened with window and door open. My wife noticed old perfume smell that came and went but not saying it was para-normal. The owmer was very nice and gracious. We had spent the last 5 nites in luxury hotels, so rustic old apartment is what it is!

My partner and I really loved this motel! It was clean and the staff were friendly. Only downside was that the bed was so squeaky that it would wake us up if the other person moved or got up. Otherwise, great place.

A small family run motel on the St. Lawrence River. The staff is very friendly and work hard. It’s full service which is nice so you get new towels every day and your bed made every day. If there are any draw backs to this place it’s the size of the room. I understand that it’s a motel but even for a motel the room is quite small. The bathroom is also quite small as is the shower. It’s very difficult to turn around in the shower. They do have courtesy room with a microwave and coffee which is a plus as well as a campfire at night which give you an opportunity to meet the other guests. I probably won’t go back only because of the size of the room. The price however, is great and could possibly persuade me. Overall it’s worth the stay

Nice, cozy, clean place to stay. The hosts were very accommodating with our arrival which we greatly appreciated! Our room was cozy, not all are as small but the bathroom in our room is not for large folks.

Outside environment was very good. The room we were in (#5) was tiny and the bathroom totally too small, including the shower. The AC unit made an annoying vibration sound almost all the time it ran. The mattresses too hard. Other than that, it was OK.

We spent several days at West Winds and are stay was wonderful. Staff was every congenial they made you feel like you were a part of their family! Great with giving recommendations. The atmosphere was fabulous you could walk right down to the water.

My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights as a getaway to go visit the 1000 islands. The room was very clean, the owner of the motel was very friendly and helped us with all the questions we had, as it was our first time there. Owner lit a fire every night for the guests, and a very nice location. We will definitely be back.

The staff is exceptional in addressing every need. The accommodations are not fancy, but the beds were comfortable and the setting along the St. Lawrence River is lovely. It is a clean, comfortable unit and has everything you need for a restful place to stay.

Great sunsets overlooking the St Lawrence seaway. Once in a while a huge sea going ship slides by. Pretty place.

Very charming and set on beautiful grounds. The accomodations are very cozy and clean. This is my second time having the pleasure of staying there. I love the no frills simplicity. Just a short drive to the absolutely exquisite village of Clayton. Love it! Will definitely stay there again.
