Athens Market Portrait

The hotel is in easy walking distance of all tourist attractions, restaurants and night life! The rooms are very comfortable! The breakfast was amazing! They provide both buffet and a la carte options for the breakfast provided! Our only complaint is that there was a miscommunication regarding parking… there is none. The only parking available is at a garage a block away that charges 10 Euro/day. Make sure to check ahead if you need your car early, the garage may not be open!

I booked a single occupancy and the first room they gave me did not have a window (only a mechanical shaft full of AC units and no light or fresh air). They finally agreed to change my room and that one was with a window. The breakfast was quite good. The property is a bit worn down— stained hall carpets, towel racks and soap dispensers about to fall off, peeling wallpaper mural— and could use some maintenance. They have a very small elevator, but only starting at one floor up. The room AC worked well and was new and maintained.

This is a great property , only issue was the baggage lift wasn't working when we arrived and we had to haul all our luggage up two sets of stairs to get to check in desk. The best breakfast !

Great location within walking distance to Metro hop on hop off bus the Acropolis restaurants. Breakfast was included on the rooftop, which is very nice rooms were clean and comfortable. You do have to walk up a flight of stairs to get to lobby from the street.

We had a great time at market portrait, our twin room was spacious with almost two different bedroom areas which was really nice. The bathroom was small but had everything we needed, and the location was super central - 10min walk to the centre of Athens. The breakfast on the rooftop was also a lovely touch, and can recommend the omelette. Overall, a fab

The hotel is not located on the most picturesque street but does provide value for the money. In the room, you get water bottles, slippers, a housecoat, a mini-fridge, and even earplugs if the street noise is bothersome. The hotel also provides a nice breakfast, including a make-to-order one with scrambled or fried eggs and fresh orange juice. However, there are not a lot of restaurants in the immediate vicinity.

Elevator made it difficult to manage luggage and often out of service. Staff were outstanding. Can’t beat the location. Breakfast very good especially with kitchen orders.

Absolutely no window in an already very small room. It was claustrophobic! Noise. I was suspect when I saw earplugs on the night stand. Restaurant next door has live entertainment, but not for too long. Front entry door was difficult to use. Beware…6-8 stair steps in entry foyer up to next floor to get to reception desk. Ok for short stays, but I would be sure not to get stuck with a room like what I was given again. Staff was very helpful and friendly. Really close to restaurants, markets and the metro.

De locatie was uitstekend, de kamer was prettig. Het personeel was behulpzaam en was er iets niet helemaal naar wens deden ze hun best om hiervoor te compenseren. Ondanks dat de kamer rookvrij was, rook het toch muffig en alsof iemand er had gerookt. Er was geen dinnerbuffet wat er werd gezegd, in plaats hiervan kon je avond eten in een restaurant naast het hotel. Echter was dit een soort rook hok, en waren de opties beperkt waardoor ik eigenlijk hier geen gebruik meer van heb gemaakt maar wel ervoor had betaald. Mijn advies gebruik deze locatie als uitvalsbasis en geniet van het lekkere ontbijt en de vriendelijkheid van het personeel maar er zijn genoeg restauranten in de buurt die veel goedkoper zijn en waar je het probleem van rokers wat meer kan vermijden.

Rooms and building were clean comfortable beds and staff were great

The room was as pictured. Plenty of storage for a short trip and lovely decor and room and bathroom were spotless. Beds were comfortable and air con kept the room cool in 30 degree heat. All the staff were very friendly and helpful and knowledgeable of the local area Had a good selection for breakfast, contenetnial and food cooked fresh from.a small menu. Only downside was the noise from the street at night but nothing that could be done about that. Rooms towards the back of the hotel may fair better with street noise. We stayed in room 102. For those with mobility issues, there are stairs up to reception with a stair lift available and a lift to the other floors. Though this is very small and may not fit a large wheelchair

We had a great time. The Hotel is in a great location altough the block it's on is tawdry. At the end of the block, Athinas street leads to a metro station (Minastariki) for 9 euros instead of a $55 euro taxi ride. Near the station is the Temple of Hepheastus that is much better preserved than the major Acropolis. The hotel staff is very friendly and helpful. The breakfast is excellent. Everything is spotless. But the rooms are cramped and our 2 were somewhat dark.

Wonderful stay! The room was clean and had great air conditioning, plentiful hot water, and the staff was so welcoming and helpful (even offered me water and fruit when I left at 5 am to catch an early flight!) Other reviews catagorize the neighbourhood as “sketchy” and I would disagree - it’s a very typical city area. The location is top notch, just a few minutes walk from Monastraki square and station, easy access to restaurants and all that Athens has to offer. When I visit Athens again I’ll be staying here, no question!

There is a very unpleasant smell in the staircase.

Very nice basic hotel in a great location. Very comfortable, very clean. Breakfast is great.and provided at no charge. And you get bottled water and a bottle of local wine in the room at no extra charge. The showers are fantastic, very modern and great water pressure. The staff are very helpful and friendly. Outstanding overall!

Room small bathroom extremely small definitely not for a plus size person. Im not even overweight but a large guy and i struggled with the size.

The staff was very helpful and friendly. My room was smaller than expected and had no view or light at all. However , the room was nicely appointed. Staff offered to move me to a larger room with a view when one became available a couple days later. So I appreciated that. Hotel is in a very good location near the metro and all the shopping and restaurants.

Do not expect the room to look like the one in the photo, as it is for a single person. The single room is very small, with only a window facing a ventilation tunnel for the outdoor unit of the air conditioner, and it is dark when the lights are turned off, even during the day. Above all, there is no fresh air coming in. There is no desk, which makes it difficult to work on a computer. It is especially difficult to write, so business visitors are advised to avoid this room. I stayed here for 4 days after visiting Crete on business and taking a vacation since it was my first time in Greece, looking at the rating and location. I sightsee from after breakfast until late afternoon and return around 3pm to work on my computer, but this is the first time I have stayed in a hotel without a desk and chair. Room furnishings and service are good as others reported. Breakfast is served at 7:30 and it takes at least 30 minutes to order and receive the sides. In the end, you can either settle for pre-prepared bread, ham, cheese, boiled eggs, sausage, fruit, and drinks, or you can order and wait 30 minutes or more to enjoy a hearty meal. Most places open at 8:00 a.m., so you can't leave early to avoid the crowds and do some sightseeing! On the other hand, the room cleaning and furnishings are better than other hotels. They refill 4 espressos every day. Besides that, there is also tea and Nescafe. There are more than enough.

This is a budget hotel located in downtown Athens, just a few steps away from the Acropolis and other major attractions. Rooms are very small and semi-comfortable (a chair would have been nice). But staff is friendly (e.g., I received free bottles of water every day and a bottle of wine for a greeting) and helpful. Breakfast is ok. The immediate surroundings of the hotel are a bit shady, but I never felt unsafe. Lots of restaurants and cafes are nearby.

The room was more confined than we expected, with the online photos being somewhat misleading. While the room served its purpose, we encountered a few issues. The air conditioning unit leaked consistently, likely due to a clogged condensation line, and the shower was quite constricting, failing to contain overspray, which made the rest of the bathroom wet. On the positive side, the bed and pillows were unexpectedly comfortable. The breakfast staff was excellent, and the made-to-order food was a highlight. The surrounding area was also very enlightening, contributing to an overall memorable experience in a positive way.

Athens Market Portrait is a great place to stay. Walkable to everything....sites to see, restaurants and all the shopping you would want. The staff was very caring and made sure my stay was very comfortable. They called taxis for me and even had a to go breakfast bag ready when I had a very early flight out! Being a solo traveller its very important that I feel safe where i am staying and I was. Thank you ( V and G) for everything you did! I will definately be back!

The staff working at Athens Market Portrait were incredibly nice and helpful. They even gave me a breakfast to go when I had to leave early to catch a ferry. The room was clean and the bed was very comfortable.

Front desk went above and beyond helping us get cab.

The check in process was a little confusing as there's a code that you need to enter the building, and we didn't receive any instructions regarding the code. The front desk person ended up buzzing us in after our taxi driver called them. Overall, the rooms are clean, the staff is helpful, and the breakfast menu is definitely worth the value!

The location is excellent in walking distance of Monasteraki metro station (straight line to the airport) and the old city around the Acropolis. Nice rastaurants nearby. Service at the reception was kind and helpful. The hotel is quite small and cosy in an old building with steep and narrow stairs, but elevator is available. I usually prefer places like this, but if someone looks for wide lobbys and so on, this is not a place for them. The breakfast is very good and served in the partly open upper level. I stayed for four nights (3rd floor, inner side) and exept for the last night (sat/sun) there was no noise during the nights. The sound isolation in the hotel seem to be ok, but in the last night the noise came from outside, so the windows do not isolate noise well. The single room is very small and some items did not work well. The safe was not fixed to the furniture, which was a surprise to me while being quite small and light it was not ”safe” in its proper meaning. The bathroom was clean and modern, no problems with the equipments and warm water supply appeared. Overall, I can recommend this hotel to people who like small and cosy places with good connections to the central places and attractions in Athens.

Location is perfect close to Monastiraki, Ermau and other nice areas in the city. Reception staff really helpful. Nice size room with fridge, inexpensive refreshments inside. Complimentary water. Shower works well with hot water and no problems with pressure.

The location of the hotel is really convenient. We walked to Acropolis and Plaka area. It felt little unsafe to walk back to the hotel in the dark, make sure to take Uber instead of walking back late night. It’s noisy at night on the street and hotel provides you ear plugs for this reason. Breakfast was really good, they even give you the menu for fresh food made just for you. Staff at the front desk was very helpful and friendly. They organized a taxi for us at 5:15am in the morning to go the airport, cause we didn’t wanna take chance to call Uber at this hour. I recommend this hotel for convenience. Athens is a busy city and you don’t wanna take taxi everywhere, you’ll end up wasting lot of your time in travel.

Nice boutique hotel, centrally located. Quick and easy access to explore tourist sites, food/restaurants and access to transportation.

It's an average property close to the centre so walkable to quite a few places. I had a couple of negative experiences. Firstly, the single room that they offer has hardly any storage, secondly the shower door of my room did not ahut properly and in spiterepeated requests on a daily basis, nothing was done except letting me know that they have ordered a new door! Their Breakfast is good, but the staff are too busy chatting in the kitchen area so although they mention that breakfast starts at 7 :30. Nothing really gets served in terms of a hot breakfast till about 7:50 or 8:00. So if you're planning to go out for any tour, please skip this. On one occasion I told the lady that I do not want much salt in my breakfast, it still came with ample of salt sprinkled over it. On the second day when I asked for no salt at all, that's when I got less salt and on both days had to leave the meal. This unpleasant experience however, was only on Thursday and Friday with the waitress that had her hair platted. She also kept announcing everyone's breakfast orders so loudly that the whole floor could hear her. The other lady was really nice, polite and more importantly attentive! I always rate my reviews based on whether I would want to return to this place or not and clearly I don't want to go back here. The only work of staying here is that it's close to all the other sites, and walkable, but then so are the 50 other hotels in the vicinity.

We had a really nice stay here, and had good value for the price we paid. Rooms were nice and clean. Really liked the breakfast buffet on the rooftop, and staff were welcoming and helpful with tips in the city.
