Stayed 1 night

The developers who rescued this iconic historic building had the right intentions but failed in their execution. Right off, the check-in area is disheveled and wholly uninviting (think Bates Motel in Hitchcock's movie "Psycho"). The staff were very nice, however. The room HVAC emits an annoying high-pitched shrill, obviously due to the fan since it stops if you completely shut-off the system. We moved to a 2nd room, same problem. Staff said it occurs in every room. Clearly, the developers were bamboozled by the HVAC contractor. Our king room was adequately sized for our one night stay, and was clean except for the wet towel left behind on the shower floor. Our 5th floor room could not escape the street revelry on Saturday night, kinda comical though. Highlight of our stay was a superb dinner at the Webb Custom Kitchen, a block away (book in advance). Sadly, the developers didn't pay enough attention to details during renovation of this building. If they had, The Esquire could have been a 5-star hotel.

So very, very unique! An old bank?! A historic landmark?! Loved everything about it, especially the rooftop patio. What's not to love...

Stayed 1 night

We stayed one night in room 506. The location is good with decent eating options within walking distance. That's the only nice thing I can say about it. We upgraded to a room that was supposed to have a seating area. It had a small sofa in a very weird location. There was no place to put our clothes so thankfully, we were only there for one night. World's tiniest dorm refrigerator with no icebox and if you want ice, you have to call down to the front desk for it and I'll bring you a bag. A ton of road noise and sirens. The worst part though was the room was incredibly hot and we could not get it cooled down. When we turned on the AC it made a terrible racket. I actually took a video of the room that captured the noise. Feel free to play that and listen. The room was just cramped, oddly laid out and not at all comfortable. It's a quirky boutique hotel with zero amenities.
