Several guests praised the room size, with a few noting dim bathrooms or a need for more lamps. Amenities called out include ample parking, lobby coffee and snacks, and the attached Black Maple coffee shop; recurring gaps were the missing ice machine and no traditional breakfast. Overall, expect a characterful, low-frills stay suited to simple stopovers.

This property is wonderful and beautiful. Well taken care of and affordable. When we come in to town to visit my mother in law. This is where we always stay. Great place, great people and great price :) Can’t forget the Black Maple coffee right next door that is also wonderful. Great all the way around.

We have been on the road for almost a month and this is by far the most unique place we’ve seen. This boutique hotel is fabulous! Immaculate, beautifully furnished, quiet and extremely reasonable. The self check in was handled very well and the only thing lacking was an ice machine. I went across the street to the convenience store to purchase some but they only had large bags so they gave me two large cups of ice from the soda dispenser. Very accommodating. Dining was somewhat of an issue because it’s a small town and most places were closed early on Sunday but we found The Rocket Bar & Grill just down the street. We were the only ones there but had great pork tenderloin sandwiches and good conversation with the bartender/waitress/cook! All & all a great experience. I’ll probably never be back in this area but highly recommend this little out of the way place!!

Big Horse Inn is a hidden gem in this part of Illinois. It is perfectly located, close to Dickson Mounds (great hiking trails), Emiquon National Wildlife Refuge, and the Illinois/Spoon River area. The room was spacious and the bed was comfy. Self check-in could not have been easier. Don't miss the attached Black Maple coffee shop for delicious breakfast and lunch options (and coffee, of course). The inn is within easy walking distance of a traditional small-town diner, Casey's, and Dairy Queen, so plenty of options for any dining budget!

Room was spotless. Area was very quiet and dark (in a good way — better for sleeping). Complimentary snacks in lobby was thoughtful. There were some insects in the room — tiny ant-like critters that wouldn't go away and a spider in the sink. Surprising because the room was so clean.

We liked the unique room furnishings. It had a great shower and bathroom. The bed was comfortable. It did seem more like a bed and breakfast rather than a motel. Our key and reservation were on the counter to sign and then go to our room. We saw no one until we checked out. The keurig did not work, but we enjoyed the snacks left there for us to take. The walls seemed thin and our next door neighbors were loud until midnight. Overall it was a nice place to stay.

Big Horse Inn is a quiet clean place to stay. There is no one at the front desk at all. The rooms are too dark for me. There are no microwaves in the rooms. There are no towel hooks or bars near the showers. There are no reading lights in the rooms. There is no hot breakfast included just a few packages snacks at the front counter. I do like that the building is attached to Black Maple coffee which has food and beverages. I think a few tweaks to this hotel would raise my score.

We are originally from Lewistown and were in town visiting family for the holidays, so booked a room at Big Horse Inn. It was the second time I’ve stayed there, but the first for my sister. The rooms are very comfortable, and extra clean. Shoot out to the housekeeping staff for keeping it in such great condition. We had a great stay. The only minor thing was I wished the bathroom had better lighting or a lighted makeup mirror so I could see better to put in contacts, put on makeup, etc. Not a deal killer, just would be nice. I’m so glad our hometown has a nice place to stay, especially since our parents have a small home with only one bath, so it gets crazy with all the family there. Nice to have a quiet, comfortable retreat like Big Horse Inn.

Loved the facility it was our second time at this location but not having someone on duty at the location is a great drawback. The room next door had a gathering with their door wide open late into the evening. We had to ask them to quiet down so that we could get some sleep.

Big Horse Inn is such a nice place to stay. We were in town to visit with family in Havana. Big Horse was a perfect place for us and a few other family members to stay. The rooms were very clean and comfortable. The coffee bar/snacks were well stocked. We appreciated the open area for visiting. While the Inn was EXCELLENT, the nearby dining choices were limited. The attached coffee shop, Black Maple Coffee, and the Mexican restaurant down the road had positive reviews from family members.

We enjoyed this small town stay very much! We were traveling in our show car and felt it a safe place. The building was well maintained and inside clean with wonderful country decor. Guessing they are extremely covid safe- it was self check-in and out- never did meet any staff? They have a cute coffe & sandwich shop, Casey's across the Street, and a wonderful hometown cafe across the stree as well.

Needed a last minute room. Reviews looked good so booked. All info was on the desk. First thing i noticed besides the obvious country charm is it looked clean and comfortable from the loiby on down the hall. Room was clean. Bed was comfortable. Everything worked as it should. Only thing would have made it better was coff in the room. But it was available in the lobby. Didnt notivmce the restaurant on the end of the building untin we were pulling back out on the highway or we'd have stopped in for breakfast. But the snack bars and such in the lobby were a nice touch. Will definitely stay again if we need a room in that area.

Clean & nice decor. Good shower. Comfy bed. Self check in/out. Didn't see anyone at either. After a long drive it would be good to have a coffee/tea machine. No breakfast option. Fridge is a bit noisy.

Very clean, no wi-fi and the tv was questionable. We were disappointed that the restaurant was not open for an evening meal. Noisy hallway in early morning. People working were chatting right outside our door. Never saw a person at check-in. Key and info was on the counter when we arrived around 5 pm. But, clean room.
