Samuel Elbert Hotel

What guests think

At Samuel Elbert Hotel, guests consistently praise very clean, comfortable, spacious rooms and friendly service, along with the building’s historic character, boutique design touches, and a cozy atmosphere, creating an appealing small-town boutique stay.

On-site dining is convenient for many, but breakfast quality and availability vary and bar/restaurant hours can be limited. A few note issues such as thin walls, AC limits or outages, occasional housekeeping lapses, and a dated sofa bed mattress. The downtown, walkable location works well for visiting shops and restaurants and is a practical alternative to Athens, though weekend options in town can be limited. Overall, expect a polished boutique base with small-town charm.

The amenities are kinda falsely advertised. The breakfast was skimpier than the usual continental. They had muffins, bagel, yogurt, and orange juice. The bar was closed. I’m not even sure their “restaurant” is operational. The bed was comfortable, however, the AC had a lock that wouldn’t let you cool any lower than 69. As a paying customer who likes to sleep in the cold, this was frustrating.

Nice updated hotel, we stopped here in our way up to the mountains. Bed was comfy but the AC was out. They had a big fan that helped but not ideal, they said they’re updating their whole AC system so likely a very short term problem issue. We were disappointed that the bar was closed up tight when we got there at 9:55 pm, I could’ve used a glass of wine. Also went down for breakfast at 9 am and there was no coffee left, one bagel, two boxes of cereal and that was it…so we went to a nearby diner and it was good but took almost an hour and a half to get our food.

Very comfortable, quiet, clean. Elevator out of order (I was on the 4th floor!). No food facilities, standard breakfast was a supermarket pastry but the lady on duty was nice enough to prepare bacon and eggs, not the hotel's standard offering.

Heard someone complaining that there room was not cleaned. The next night it happened to me. New towels, but no vacuum, or wipe down. Even left a tip the day before. I read in the reviews that someone had a bad view. I made reservations chancing it. Got a view of A Coke sign on a brick wall. Room 407. Don’t be assigned a room. You will get well you know. If you smoke it’s smoke free even the sidewalk. I asked why I can’t smoke on the sidewalk they said you will bring smoke in with you. Great for non smokers. But at 5 in the morning walking square attracts police. Great police presence but what a hassle.

Several housekeeping items in my room needed addressing upon arrival. Staff was quick and thorough to take care of everything. Checkout is 11. I was meeting a friend for lunch at 12 in the hotel restaurant. Asked at front desk if I could have a later checkout at 12. Was told Hotel Manager would need to be contacted. By the time I got up to my room, they called to say 11:30 would be absolute latest time, which I took. Seemed a bit unreasonable to me, but I did check out at 11:30 and waited for my friend in the hotel lobby. These seem minor to me, but they did give me pause. I am originally from Elberton and am proud of this hotel. It would really be a plus to have someone help seniors with luggage. And, the restaurant food needs an upgrade. My room and the hotel employees were A !! C

The hotel had lots of historic charm, the staff were responsive and kind, and the rooms were spacious and modern. My only complaint is that the pull out sofa bed was incredibly uncomfortable—the mattress was thin and flat (unevenly so, it’s obviously old) and the springs dug into me all night. So a great place to stay as long as you’re using the regular beds, just know the sofa bed is… a challenge.

Hotel was clean and comfortable. Can imagine the town square bustle in the 1920\'s. Found out that "breakfast" is included, but be sure to get there early. We missed day one and were late on day two. Not much left at 8:30. However, it is my understanding that they offer some cook to order hot items if you\'re on time.
